Gourmet Hunter - Chapter 474

Chapter 474: Unexpected Discovery

Luo did not stay long, leaving the tranquil village and heading towards the forest.

Under the moonlight, his figure gradually faded into the distance.

Whale Island's forests are rich in resources, teeming with rare birds and exotic beasts, yet the island's inhabitants rely on fishing for their livelihood due to the inherent dangers of the forest.

During the day, the island's residents rarely enter the forest, let alone at night. Luo, having declined Gon’s invitation, intended to spend the night in the forest.

Without Gon, Luo followed the stream and ventured deep into the forest.

The surrounding trees became increasingly dense, and the light dimmed.

After walking several kilometers into the depths of the forest, Luo encountered numerous animals that posed a threat to ordinary people. Any that attacked him ended up dead, becoming his supper for the night.

The highest grade of ingredients Luo encountered along the way was only C, which offered no improvement to his strength.

After wandering for quite a while, he finally found a sturdy tree.

Luo lit a fire at the base and prepared the snakes and rodents he had caught, roasting them over the flames.

He didn't waste precious spices on these low-grade ingredients, simply roasting them until they were cooked before eating.

After filling his stomach, Luo extinguished the fire, climbed to the top of the tree, and gazed at the beautiful scenery where the night sky met the forest. In the distance, the deep sea shimmered with silvery light.

Luo lingered at the top of the tree for a while before retreating to a thick branch. Using his Nen, he inscribed the character for "Intimidation" on the surface of the branch.

He then lay down on the inscribed character, resting his head on his hands, silently staring at the rustling leaves above.

The "Intimidation" character amplified his aura’s mental impact, driving away beasts and insects, ensuring he wouldn't be bitten by mosquitoes while he slept.

As the night deepened, Luo thought about visiting the King of the Swamp the next day and gradually closed his eyes.

"Gu-gu."

Occasionally, the quiet forest echoed with the sound of a nighthawk.

A nocturnal horned owl perched on a tree, its blood-red pupils reflecting two fully armed humans moving through the underbrush, with a pouch pig foraging not far ahead of them.

Under the owl’s unblinking gaze, the two humans confronted the pouch pig.

"Da-da."

The suppressed gunfire was a series of faint, crisp sounds.

As the muzzle flashes erupted, a blinding light briefly flickered in the owl's eyes.

"Moo."

The pouch pig, hit by two bullets, let out a low, bull-like roar, crashed into a tree trunk, then turned and fled deeper into the forest.

Startled, the owl flew away.

The two humans pursued the fleeing pouch pig.

The confrontation between the hunters and the prey lasted only ten minutes.

The pouch pig, gradually losing strength due to its injuries, crashed into a large tree.

With a loud bang, the tree tilted backward, partially uprooted, but managed to remain upright, though severely slanted.

After colliding with the tree, the pouch pig seemed to lose all strength, swaying and collapsing to the ground. Seven piglets tumbled out of its pouch, emitting frightened, childish cries.

"Got it."

The two men who had chased the pouch pig exclaimed in excitement upon seeing it fall.

They approached the tree and immediately noticed the seven piglets beside the pouch pig, their faces lighting up with joy.

"It's a female, we hit the jackpot," said the man wearing a Lec hat.

The other man, adorned with numerous earrings, chuckled, took a cloth bag from his backpack, and began to put the piglets inside.

"Someone's here."

Suddenly, the man with the Lec hat looked up sharply, spotting a person reclining on the tree, his face obscured by the dim light, only his silhouette and a pair of dark eyes were visible.

"Who are you?"

The man with the Lec hat shouted coldly, raising his gun towards the person in the tree.

The earring man, hearing the shout, immediately put down the bag and aimed his gun at the figure in the tree, ready to shoot at the slightest provocation.

The person in the tree was Luo, who had just been woken up.

"You two disturbed my sleep."

Luo slightly tilted his head, coldly looking at the two poachers below.

The thriving ecosystem of Whale Island was partly due to the residents' focus on fishing and partly because hunting rare birds and animals in the forest was forbidden. The pouch pig at the tree's base was one such protected species.

A murderous intent flashed in the eyes of the man with the Lec hat. Without hesitation, he pulled the trigger, several bullets tearing through the night towards the figure in the tree.

Luo raised his hand expressionlessly, catching the bullets and crushing them effortlessly before letting them fall to the ground.

"At least a few lives on your hands."

Luo easily deduced from the man’s aura.

As the crushed bullets hit the ground, the attention of the two men shifted. When they saw the deformed bullets, disbelief spread across their faces.

Before they could react, a small figure leapt from the tree, swiftly passing through their vision, plunging them into icy darkness.

Thud.

The two men fell dead immediately.

A black cat gracefully walked up to their bodies, looking up at Luo in the tree, and asked, "Should we bury the bodies here or sink them in the lake?"

Swish.

Luo jumped down from the tree, glanced at the two corpses, and said indifferently, "Swallow them."

Ignoring the cat’s protest, Luo turned his gaze to the piglets clumsily crawling out of the cloth bag, then shifted his eyes to the dying pouch pig.

Reluctantly, the black cat swallowed the bodies and their gear into an unknown space before approaching Luo.

Luo squatted, placed the piglets back into the bag, and said to the black cat, "You should be able to find a male pouch pig within five kilometers. Take these piglets to it."

"Is that really necessary?"

The black cat eyed the wriggling bag.

"Piglets have no nutritional value."

Luo’s light remark dismissed the black cat, who reluctantly took the bag to find a male pouch pig.

After the cat left, Luo looked at the severely tilted tree, intending to straighten it.

Suddenly, he noticed familiar characters on the exposed roots. Leaning closer, he saw the complex yet orderly inscription of the character for "God."

Surprised, Luo traced the character with his fingers, sensing a faint life force.

"Could this be Ging's work?"

Luo murmured to himself.

On this small Whale Island, finding such a character could only make Luo think of Ging.
