Gon still wanted to ask that big brother many things, but he didn't want to disobey Mito, so he was obediently led away.
Huh?
The big brother was blinking.
Gon tilted his head slightly, not knowing why the big brother was blinking, but felt that he was trying to convey some message to him.
Mito, focused on dragging Gon back, didn't notice Luo blinking. She directly pulled Gon into the kitchen, where her mother was busy at the stove.
"Aunt Mito, why did you drag me away?" Gon asked, looking up.
"Do you believe someone can catch fish without bait?" Mito put her hands on her hips, leaned toward Gon, and said seriously, "Stay away from people who talk nonsense like that in the future, okay?"
Intimidated by Mito's aura, Gon shrank his neck and hesitated, "But the big brother didn't seem like he was lying."
"What do you know?"
Mito raised her hand and gave Gon a light punch, saying, "Stay here and don't run around."
With that, she didn't give Gon a chance to argue and walked out, continuing her work.
In the outer hall, Luo looked at Mito who came out of the kitchen. She noticed his gaze but ignored it.
"What's going on?"
Luo, puzzled, attacked the seafood fried rice.
As soon as he put a spoonful in his mouth, the freshness exploded, filling his entire mouth.
"The taste is amazing."
Luo was surprised. He didn't expect such delicious fried rice in a small tavern on Whale Island.
The rice, wrapped in coconut milk, was distinct and perfectly cooked, a mastery of timing.
Shrimp, squid, clams—all locally sourced and naturally sweet—but the essence of this fried rice wasn't these nearshore ingredients; it was...salt!
Pure sea salt, without any artificial traces, was the cornerstone of this fried rice.
Luo devoured the fried rice, recalling Linne's all-encompassing sea salt.
Though the sea salt in this fried rice was far inferior to the special salt made by Linne's Nen ability, it had the most basic form.
In no time, Luo finished the fried rice, picked up his cup, and took a sip of fruit wine. The taste was decent, but nothing special.
"Mito, another fried rice," Luo called to Mito, who was serving drinks.
Mito turned back and saw Luo calling her name, eyes narrowing. She had never seen this young man before, yet he knew her name.
"Wait a moment."
She replied calmly.
Luo nodded at her, then leaned on his cheek, listening to the fishermen at his table discussing [Tides].
After listening for a while, Luo asked curiously, "Brothers, what is this tide you're talking about? A tsunami?"
There were six burly, dark-skinned men at the table, reeking of alcohol.
A bearded man turned to Luo and replied, "It's a wave more terrifying than a tsunami. If I had to use one word to describe it..."
Halfway through, the bearded man scratched his chin, searching his limited vocabulary for the right word.
"Uh...overwhelming!"
After thinking for a moment, the bearded man said solemnly.
"How can it cover the ground on the sea?" A companion lightly retorted.
"Then what adjective would you use?" The bearded man glared at his companion.
"I'd say it's as high as the clouds."
"No, no, it should be said that the wave is higher than the sky!"
"Ridiculous! If the wave is higher than the sky, what about the clouds?"
Luo watched them argue animatedly over the description, shaking his head.
Still, he gleaned from their descriptions that the tide was a terrifying wave that could engulf any ship on the sea.
The tide's cycle was once every ten years, with three waves in total. The first wave's low tide served as a warning. If one could escape the low tide, they could seize the opportunity to catch many rare deep-sea creatures before the second wave hit.
Since the tide's exact timing was uncertain, every ten years marked a peak in missing persons at sea.
By the way, Ging's father never returned after one such trip.
High-grade seafood ingredients were the hardest to obtain. Many deep-sea creatures couldn't be caught at will, and even skilled marine hunters didn't know all the ocean's creatures.
The decadal tide was an opportunity to acquire high-grade deep-sea ingredients, allowing many fishermen to make a fortune, though at great risk.
Luo didn't interrupt further, quietly listening to the fishermen's drunken bragging, finding it quite amusing.
These were ordinary people, but their seafaring experiences were extraordinary.
"Clatter."
The sound of a tray being placed heavily on the table came as Mito delivered a second plate of seafood fried rice.
"Enjoy."
Mito said and immediately walked away.
Luo scratched his cheek, sure he hadn't offended Mito, thinking this place really didn't sell service.
He finished the second plate of fried rice in two minutes and ordered another.
An hour later, a stack of plates piled up in front of Luo, his extraordinary appetite and consumption attracting a lot of attention.
Luo didn't care, taking his fishing rod and calmly getting up to pay at the counter.
Mito collected the money and suddenly asked, "How do you know my name?"
"Ging told me."
Luo smiled. Before Mito could react, he turned and left.
Hearing Ging's name, Mito froze. By the time she snapped out of it, the black-haired young man was gone, and she stomped her foot in frustration.
"He knows Ging?"
Mito looked at the tavern door, biting her lip.
As soon as he stepped out of the tavern, Luo turned a corner and went around to the back door, finding a place to sit down.
Half an hour later, Gon came out of the back door and immediately saw Luo sitting on the ground. He opened his mouth to call out "Big Brother," but saw Luo's finger on his lips and quickly covered his mouth, then cautiously looked back inside.
"What's your name?" Luo asked, though he already knew.
If he called Gon by name without asking, it would arouse suspicion, just like calling Mito directly had.
"My name is Gon! What's yours?"
Gon looked at Luo, or more accurately, at the fishing rod.
"Luo, you can call me Brother Luo."
Luo stood up. On second thought, letting Gon call him brother would make him lower in rank than Ging.
Thinking of this, he corrected himself, "No, call me Boss Luo."
"Boss Luo!"
Gon obediently called, his eyes sparkling. "Teach me to fish!"
"Follow me."
Luo smiled.
