Josh, we live in Atlanta and my son went to Tech. We lived all those traditions and attended games for years during the great Coach Paul Johnson years. Sting ‘em and THWG! 🐝

Your very first college football game and you’re going to see my Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets get pummeled by FSU. 🤦🏻♀️ Keep in mind that this game is being played in Ireland so you’re not going to get the whole college football experience from the crowd. I doubt the full bands will be there and there will be no Chief Osceola riding into the stadium on Renegade and no GT Rambling Wreck driving in leading the team. Hope it’s a good game at least. Go Jackets! Sting ‘em! 🐝

Up until fairly recently, it was almost entirely male, so they have some traditions as ways of having fun that some might find odd. A few examples include: The Mini 500, a tricycle race across campus George P Burdell is a fake student that has graduated with multiple degrees and even flew a plane in one of the world wars before being discovered. He also was scheduled to introduce Barack Obama onto campus but as he said in his intro speech, no one could find him. He also is legally married to a graduate of Agnes Scott College, as is tradition due to the schools being traditionally male only / female only and nearby. RAT caps, they’re small awkward looking hats freshmen are encouraged to wear. It stands for Recently Acquired Tech Student. There are rules for maintenance, like putting football scores and other stuff on them as the year goes on. Relaxed now, but you used to be subjected to hazing if you didn’t wear them back in the old days. Stealing the T, this one is my personal favorite, it involves trying and usually successfully in spite of security measures to steal one of the Ts on Tech Tower, the oldest building on campus. As security measures ramped up, it became popular to steal other Ts across campus and even at other schools during football away days. Our most notorious in recent years was stealing the T from Lane Stadium at Virginia Tech. You can Google the picture.
