With Ling Chunann overseeing, the popular young actor managed to pass his scene without a single NG (no good take), thanks to his radiant smile directed at Ling Chunann. Though the camera wasn't aimed perfectly at him, the minor imperfection was overlooked by the director.
"You did really well," Ling Chunann said with a smile to Ye Fan.
"Thank you," Ye Fan responded, blushing and a bit embarrassed.
The next scene was Ling Chunann's. His acting was naturally flawless, and since it was a simple music video without complex emotional expression required, he breezed through it without criticism from even the most demanding director, Liang Weiquan. Ye Fan, energized by having his idol on set, only NG'd twice due to being distracted by Ling Chunann; otherwise, his performance was impeccable, as if the scoldings he received from the director before Ling Chunann's arrival never happened.
After successfully wrapping up the shoot as dusk approached, Ling Chunann declined Ye Fan's dinner invitation and waved to a beautiful girl who seemed to have been waiting outside for a while.
Seeing Ling Chunann waving, An Yu also waved back excitedly.
"Xiao Su," Liang Weiquan called out to Ling Chunann, who was about to leave. After spending a day together, he had grown fond of this polite and pretty young woman, in a purely avuncular manner, of course.
"Liang Director, is there something you need?" Ling Chunann responded with a smile.
Coughing slightly, the world-renowned director showed a rare moment of embarrassment, "My daughter has become a huge fan of your music after watching your livestream. I plan to bring her over tomorrow. Could you please sign an autograph for her?"
"Of course, no problem," Ling Chunann agreed with a smile. "You're too polite, Director. I'm flattered that your daughter likes me. My friends have been waiting for me for a while now, so I'll take my leave. See you tomorrow."
After getting his answer, Liang Weiquan resumed his aloof demeanor, "Go ahead."
Ling Chunann couldn't help but find it amusing that the renowned director seemed to be quite the daughter's fan, a trait not evident in the original story. In the story, the female lead's relationship with her father was fraught from her first appearance, and her relationship with the male lead led to her estrangement from Liang Weiquan. His subsequent death in a car accident left her momentarily distressed but seemingly indifferent to her father's passing, revealing little of the affection supposedly present.
Seeing the director's evident affection for his daughter now made Ling Chunann wonder about the dissonance with the original storyline. Perhaps Liang Weiquan's affection was simply poorly expressed, leading to the unfortunate outcome in the story.
Without disputing 098's puzzled thoughts, Ling Chunann, followed by Qin Chu and An Yu, left the set.
"Mr. Big Boss," An Yu, who had been focused on Ling Chunann, finally noticed Qin Chu and greeted him nervously.
"Mm," Qin Chu nodded curtly, then respectfully said to Ling Chunann, "Miss Su, you go ahead and talk. I'll get the car."
"Long time no see. Are you getting used to the company?" Ling Chunann asked An Yu.
Grateful, An Yu shifted her gaze from Qin Chu's retreating figure to Ling Chunann, "Thank you, Miss Su. Teacher Chen mentioned yesterday that I'll be assigned to a drama group soon to start shooting a TV series. He also mentioned a task for me related to you. May I ask what it is?"
"Congratulations! It's nothing much, really. I just thought you'd be perfect for the female lead in my music video. The company will handle the details. And please, don't call me Miss Su; it's too formal. You're even a year older than me. Just call me by my name," Ling Chunann replied with a smile.
"Okay, Su Su," An Yu said, pleasantly surprised.
After chatting for a while, Qin Chu drove up.
"I should get going; it's getting late. You should head home too," Ling Chunann said.
"Wait, Su Su," An Yu called out, hesitating, "I wanted to ask about you and Mr. Qin..."
"He's my temporary agent," Ling Chunann explained with a smile. "It's hard to get a taxi around here. Do you need a ride?"
Initially apprehensive about Qin Chu, An Yu accepted Ling Chunann's offer and got into the car.
Sitting in the car with Qin Chu driving and Ling Chunann beside her, An Yu felt a bit surreal.
"Where are you headed, Xiao Yu?" Ling Chunann asked kindly.
"Jingfeng Road, number 58," An Yu murmured, almost inaudibly.
Ling Chunann relayed the address to Qin Chu
, who adjusted the car's direction accordingly.
Looking between the focused Qin Chu and Ling Chunann, An Yu felt out of place. She had been worried about Qin Chu's intentions towards Ling Chunann, but their interaction seemed to suggest... she was the boss.
Shaking off this thought, An Yu focused on her hands, and the car fell into silence.
Ling Chunann yawned silently, gazing out the window, feeling sleepy.
"Host, is there something special about this female lead?" 098, after observing An Yu, couldn't discern what made her stand out. Ling Chunann seemed overly concerned about her, sparking a suspicion of a shifted affection.
"You're overthinking, 098," Ling Chunann responded, squeezing 098, enjoying the tactile sensation of manipulating its energy form. "Keep an eye on her, just like you do with the male lead."
"Alright, host," 098 agreed, though still puzzled by Ling Chunann's instructions.
In the following days, Ling Chunann was busy on set, with Qin Chu not always by his side but still personally driving him. The cast and crew viewed Ling Chunann with a mix of jealousy, admiration, disdain, and sycophancy. Qin Chu, wary of rumors linking him romantically with Ling Chunann and possibly angering their boss, strictly prohibited gossip and became even more cautious around Ling Chunann.
Ye Fan, after completing his scenes, moved on to another project but maintained contact with Ling Chunann. Learning about Ling Chunann's indefinite contract with Star Emperor, he eagerly renewed his contract for future collaborations.
"Su Su, Su Su! You were amazing!" Ling Chunann was greeted enthusiastically by a young fan, who lavished praise on him, admiration clear in her eyes.
Liang Jingxue, despite her gentle and elegant name, was anything but. She became particularly attached to Ling Chunann after her father, Liang Weiquan, brought her to the set, her eyes sparkling whenever she saw him.
Ling Chunann discreetly withdrew his arm from the girl's grasp before she could protest and patted her colorfully braided head, "You skipped class again today."
Purring like a kitten under Ling Chunann's touch, Liang Jingxue pouted, "You forgot, Su Su, it's Saturday. You promised to take me shopping."
Seeing Liang Weiquan's jealous yet stoic face, Ling Chunann shrugged helplessly, "Your dad didn't give you a day off. Maybe try talking to him? Be nice, and he'll surely agree."
Faced with her father's cold demeanor, Liang Jingxue, clearly not fond of him, reluctantly approached Liang Weiquan at Ling Chunann's urging, "Dad, I want to ask for a day off for Su Su."
"No," Liang Weiquan dismissed her request coldly, pretending to ignore their previous conversation, "She has scenes to shoot today."
"But it's Saturday! You said she could have the day off!" Liang Jingxue insisted, holding her ground.
"This is my set, and I make the rules. Stop being childish," Liang Weiquan retorted sternly.
Just as Liang Jingxue was about to argue further, Ling Chunann signaled her, causing her to reluctantly call out, "Dad, daddy."
This address caught Liang Weiquan off guard, his eyes wide with shock and his lips trembling. After a moment of silence, he waved them off, "Go on, then."
"Su Su, let's go!" Liang Jingxue, brightening at her father's consent, grabbed Ling Chunann and hurried away.
Once they were beyond the set's boundaries, Liang Jingxue slowed down, with Ling Chunann accompanying her in silence.
"I didn't want to be a bad student," she confessed as they reached the end of a street.
Stories starting with such confessions usually led to melodramatic revelations, Ling Chunann thought.
Indeed, Liang Jingxue's tale was one of early maternal loss and a father's inability to express affection, leading to her current rebellious demeanor.
After listening to her story, Ling Chunann gently touched the girl's head, about to speak, when he felt a chill down his spine and turned to see a man who had appeared out of nowhere.
