Unbeknownst to its own host suddenly leaving home, 098 was at a loss, gazing at the densely packed stars outside the cabin, it couldn't help but ask, "Host, where are you headed now?"
The ticket 098 had purchased for Ling Chunann was to the 346 star system, but clearly, Ling Chunann's destination was elsewhere.
Hearing 098's question, Ling Chunann fiddled with his signal-less communicator, "098, send a message for me, say I'll return next year."
"Ah?"
"Have you forgotten our mission?"
"No, host, I'll send it right away."
Nor, who received Ling Chunann's message, was on his way to pursue someone.
Seeing Nor suddenly stop, the young prince who was responsible for bringing the spaceship over was stunned, "Uncle Emperor, what's wrong?"
"It's nothing, let's go back."
"Aren't you going to look for Auntie Empress?"
"Let's wait two more months, do me a favor now."
"Alright, just say it."
"Host, he resigned from the Imperial Academy yesterday." During the spaceship's voyage, 098 reported daily, "Then, a mysterious person revealed that Xia Lin is an omaga, and the school is currently verifying it. He's likely to be expelled. I've looked up the ID of the mysterious person but couldn't find any specific source."
Ling Chunann nodded, "Hmm, add fuel to the fire, make him famous."
"Yes." 098 was somewhat excited, was the host finally going to deal with that detestable male lead? "Host, should I also release the video footage we kept initially?"
"No rush, you just need to ensure he becomes known across the stars." Ling Chunann said.
"Alright, host." Although 098 didn't understand what the host was planning, there must be a reason.
098 didn't realize it was getting closer to becoming a die-hard fan.
As a system, 098 knew various troll tactics. Even without any evidence, it could spin tales as if one was right there. Thus, with 098's instigation, within a day, every corner of the star net knew about Xia Lin, an omaga who had infiltrated the Imperial Academy.
Though Ling Chunann didn't ask 098 to slander him, Xia Lin had already become a public enemy, a trend of shame for the empire, which delighted 098. However, Ling Chunann was not as pleased, "098, change the direction of the wind towards something favorable about Xia Lin, talk about his inspirational story."
"Why... alright, host." 098 reluctantly said.
Xia Lin hadn't closed his eyes for two days, clueless about who he had provoked to have his omaga status reported, subsequently making it known throughout the star net.
When the school informed him of the need for gene verification, he almost collapsed on the spot. Who could have reported him?
Then he calmed down a bit, thinking of Ling Chunann, the only one who knew his real identity. If not him, who else? Knowing he should have killed him when he found out he was still alive.
Thinking this, Xia Lin shook his head, no, this was the Imperial Academy, not the trash star from before.
However, Xia Lin felt slightly relieved that he wasn't reported for proxy enrollment, giving him a chance to turn the tables. After all, an omaga capable of entering the Imperial Academy was virtually non-existent.
Just as Xia Lin was preparing to strike back, public opinion suddenly shifted, no longer the one-sided trend it was before.
"So what if he's an omaga? Plan entered the Imperial Academy on his own strength. I heard he even scored an S in the entrance test, something many alphas can't achieve."
"Right, as the first omaga to enter the Imperial Academy, Plan is our pride! Who says omagas are inferior to betas and alphas!"
"This time I stand with Plan, the Imperial Academy invited Plan themselves. If they expel him now, it would truly disappoint the citizens of the empire."
"Being an omaga and entering the Imperial Academy, imagine how much effort Plan had to put in, my heart goes out to Plan."
...
Seeing the supportive comments online, Xia Lin felt a bit puzzled but soon dismissed his doubts. It seemed there were still people on the omaga's side. His furrowed brows for the past two days finally relaxed slightly. However, he could no longer stay at the Imperial Academy. If a gene test tomorrow revealed he wasn't Plan, it would be a major problem.
"Counterattack value increased by 10%, current value at 55%. Please continue to make efforts," 098 cheered, as the slowly increasing counterattack value suddenly leaped significantly.
Soon, 098 discovered new information, "Host, Xia Lin admitted to the Imperial Academy that he had concealed his gender, made a self-critique, and voluntarily proposed to withdraw." What was this male lead up to?
"He's smart," Ling Chunann nodded.
"Ah?"
"He doesn't have any proof of being Plan. If he doesn't leave now, he might be discovered and then arrested for impersonation. On the contrary, if he leaves now, he might even gain a bunch of supporters," Ling Chunann analyzed for his system.
...
After leaving the Imperial Academy, Xia Lin vanished without a trace, and even 098's tracker lost his whereabouts, only detecting his last appearance at the edge of the 159 star system. The magnetic field chaos there caused the loss of signal, prompting 098 to consider an upgrade. Yet, it was pleased that its host wasn't upset, instead offering comfort, which moved 098 deeply.
Though Xia Lin was gone, the star net buzzed with the news for days, overshadowing the news of Nor's resignation from the Imperial Academy. The topic of omaga's status cooled down only after the 158 star system was invaded by the insectoids, breaking through three border planets' defenses.
In the 158 star system, a planet named Forest Sea became the insectoids' stronghold. Its 80% surface covered in trees, the planet was a paradise with residents living a primitive lifestyle, lacking notable minerals.
However, since the insectoid invasion, Forest Sea became their main base.
"Major, you haven't slept for three days. The insectoid's offensive has lessened, you should rest," an officer supported the nearly faltering Nicks, who had parachuted in as their commander six months ago and earned the soldiers' respect.
Nicks waved his hand, indicating he was fine, and resumed fighting, beheading an approaching insectoid.
After defending Forest Sea for two weeks, Nicks and his troops, now out of ammunition and with their mechs destroyed and ships captured, faced desperation. With at least ten days until Imperial reinforcements could arrive, they were on the brink of annihilation.
Two days later.
"Host, Forest Sea has been completely overrun by insectoids. For safety, it's best not to go there," 098 earnestly advised Ling Chunann, who was heading toward Forest Sea despite the presence of male supporting character number two, whose original story didn't include such danger.
"098, you're too cautious," Ling Chunann said, "Just in time to catch the last wave."
"What?"
Before 098 could finish, Ling Chunann accelerated, landing on Forest Sea, directly at the center of the most intense insectoid offensive, where Nicks was.
"Host, male supporting character number two is under attack, in life-threatening danger," 098 was alarmed, as the character's storyline seemed to have changed. If Ling Chunann hadn't arrived today, he might have died, and thinking of the barely increased 35% favorability, 098 once again saw Ling Chunann's wisdom.
Ling Chunann wasn't surprised. In the original story, male supporting character number two survived this war thanks to a protective amulet Xia Lin secretly attached to his lightsaber, which started Nicks' suspicion about Xia Lin's background, laying the groundwork for his later recognition of lineage and opening his heart to Xia Lin.
This time, however, with Ling Chunann's involvement, Xia Lin, though managing his relationship with Nicks, didn't send the amulet.
098 missed this detail, but Ling Chunann remembered it well.
Ling Chunann, without using a mech, took out a lightsaber and charged into the insect swarm attacking Nicks.
After clearing a wave of attackers, Ling Chunann stood behind Nicks, who collapsed from exhaustion before they could speak.
"Weak," Ling Chunann remarked as he lifted Nicks, expressing disappointment.
"Considering the intensity of the offensive, lasting sixteen days is commendable," 098 commented.
"If it were Nor, he could last at least a month," Ling Chunann noted.
...
Despite 098's reluctance to share its thoughts about Nor's endurance even in different contexts, it changed the subject, "Host, it's still eight days till reinforcements. Do you plan to stay here? Male supporting character number two has applied an insectoid attractant on himself, drawing all attacking bases' insectoids here."
"Can you locate the insectoid nests on
this planet?" Ling Chunann asked while fighting.
"Possible, but it will take a moment," 098 responded.
Soon, 098 found the nest, "Host, the insectoid nest is 2,000 kilometers west in a valley."
"Alright," Ling Chunann acknowledged, then pulled out a mech from his space, "098, help me control it to block the insects from entering this cave."
"Sure, host," 098 replied, thrilled to operate the mech once named War God, a gift from Nor, and its design closely resembling the mech Lan Ti Ya, marking it as the most advanced until Lan Ti Ya took over.
098 was excited yet slightly overwhelmed by the chance to control the mech, then remembered, "How can you control it without coming out?"
"Ah? Oh!" 098 realized it could leave the host, having forgotten this function after being with Ling Chunann for so long, a feature it overlooked since being bitten by the host.
