"She might turn into a vampire," Ling Chunann stated.
"No, I'd rather die than become a vampire," Zhang Yunya's weak voice emerged from Su Zijing's embrace.
"No, it won't happen," Su Zijing gasped, her fingers whitening as they gripped Zhang Yunya's shoulder, causing the blood from her previously injured arm to seep out again. "How could Yunya possibly turn into a vampire?"
Zhang Yunya reached out to touch Su Zijing's face. "Don't cry."
Su Zijing blinked, tears streaming down even more. "It's all my fault. If it weren't for protecting me, you wouldn't have..."
"No, it's not your fault... I promised to protect you."
"But..." Su Zijing's voice broke into sobs again.
098 couldn't hold back any longer. "Host, why deceive them?" A human bitten by a vampire could avoid transformation if an original vampire was present, otherwise the female protagonist wouldn't be kept by several vampire males as depicted in the story.
Ling Chunann didn't respond to 098's query, calmly sitting on the sofa with Yuan Congshu diligently massaging his shoulders, both appearing as if watching a drama unfold.
The two girls, still seated and lying on the ground, paid no attention to them.
"Why are you so silly? They didn't notice you earlier. You could have escaped without getting bitten," Su Zijing sobbed. "Why did you save me when we've only known each other for such a short time?"
"Zijing, you know what? I didn't like you at first glance," Zhang Yunya suddenly changed the topic, her gaze drifting away as if reminiscing. "The second time I saw you was in the library at school, during a sunset. You were reading an idiom dictionary, and when the sunlight hit your profile, you looked up and smiled at me. That moment, I thought I saw an angel, cough cough..."
Su Zijing was stunned into silence.
Zhang Yunya coughed a few times, then continued: "It might sound funny, but I've never been in love in my first twenty years. I was sure I would like a boy, but after meeting you, maybe it started with your appearance, but as we spent more time together, I realized, how could there be such a lovely girl in this world? Every move you make, every smile you share, I remember deeply. I wanted to lose weight because I thought I was too heavy and not good enough for you. I wanted to tell you I liked you after I succeeded."
"Maybe you won't believe it, but I truly wanted to take care of you for the rest of my life," Zhang Yunya slowly closed her eyes, tears sliding down her cheeks. "You might find it disgusting, and I'm sorry. I'm just afraid... if I don't say it today, I might never get the chance."
By now, Su Zijing was sobbing uncontrollably, shaking her head without saying a word.
"It's normal to feel disgusted, especially since you used to like Shu Yiheng. He's a good boy. After I'm gone, you should be with him. You'd be happy," Zhang Yunya's eyes remained closed.
"No, no, I don't like him anymore..." Su Zijing rasped, refusing. "I don't want you to go."
"Silly girl," Zhang Yunya sighed.
"No matter what you turn into, I'm willing to give you a chance to pursue me. Please don't go," Su Zijing clung to Zhang Yunya, crying and making promises.
"Comeback value increased by 5%, current value at 70%. Please continue your efforts, host."
098 was completely taken aback by the situation, at a loss for what was happening.
Then, 098 saw their host, Ling Chunann, who had been watching, blink at Zhang Yunya, who opened her eyes to look in their direction, and she returned a grateful smile.
...
Back to a conversation between Ling Chunann and Zhang Yunya about fifteen minutes earlier, when Yuan Congshu was dealing with several vampire princes and Su Zijing was in a state of mental breakdown.
"Do you like Zijing?" Ling Chunann asked.
Zhang Yunya remained silent.
"If you can promise to treat her well, I can help you create an opportunity," Ling Chunann offered.
"Okay," Zhang Yunya agreed, missing the brief exchange as 098 was focused on the vampire princes and Yuan Congshu.
Seeing Su Zijing's increasing distress, Ling Chunann stopped Zhang Yunya's attempt to comfort her, walked over, and embraced her shoulder. "Zijing, don't cry."
"Wuwu, Yiheng, save Yunya, please? She shouldn't become a vampire. I don't want her to die," Su Zijing pleaded through her tears. "Yiheng, you're so powerful. Please, save her. I don't want Yunya to die."
Becoming a vampire is akin to death. Ling Chunann, somewhat surprised by Su Zijing's belief, chose not to correct her. Comforting her shoulder, he reassured, "Don't cry, I know a way to prevent her transformation into a vampire."
"What way?" Su Zijing paused her tears, her eyes wide and reddened, a mix of pitiful and cute.
"I can't, but he can," Ling Chunann said, pointing to Yuan Congshu, who was watching them, and flashed a broad smile. "Uncle, please."
Su Zijing looked at Yuan Congshu with hopeful eyes.
Nodding, Yuan Congshu walked towards the still unconscious vampire princes in the room, casually picking up Yang Mingxuan and gestured towards a sofa, "Bring her over."
Only then did Su Zijing realize they were still on the floor, feeling slightly embarrassed.
Normally, a vampire must willingly detoxify their victim after feeding, but in the presence of Yuan Congshu, an experienced Blood Emperor, such restrictions seemed negligible.
Ling Chunann, not having been exposed to the blood clan's power for long and prioritizing the male leads' safety, decided to entrust the task to Yuan Congshu.
Yuan Congshu, far from gentle, dropped Yang Mingxuan onto the ground with a thud, his head hitting the corner of the coffee table, producing a wince-worthy sound.
He sliced open Yang Mingxuan's neck, extracting a crystal-clear pearl and signaled Zhang Yunya to open her mouth, popping the pearl inside, "Done."
Zhang Yunya's complexion instantly brightened.
"All done, she'll be fine after a few days' rest," Ling Chunann stated.
Still somewhat worried, Su Zijing asked again, "Are you sure she's alright now?"
"Rest assured, she's fine," Ling Chunann confirmed.
After triple-checking for any danger, Su Zijing finally relaxed, embracing Zhang Yunya in tears of joy.
After wrapping things up, Ling Chunann and Yuan Congshu were about to leave when Yuan Ji appeared, bowing respectfully, "Your Highness."
"Take these three back," Yuan Congshu directed towards the three vampire princes piled by the door.
Noticing the princes' high rank, Yuan Ji hesitated but then quickly obeyed after seeing Yuan Congshu's expressionless face, "Yes."
Ling Chunann patted Yuan Ji's shoulder, "Good luck."
Yuan Ji, energized, was about to respond but then lowered his voice after catching the gaze of the two girls inside, "Yes, Your Highness!"
Back in the car, Ling Chunann remembered Yang Mingxuan, "That vampire from earlier is alright, right?"
"No issue, just lost two levels. How do you wish to deal with them, my treasure?" Yuan Congshu asked.
"Just follow the rules," Ling Chunann pondered.
"Okay," Yuan Congshu started the car.
"Do you have anything you want to ask me?" Ling Chunann turned to Yuan Congshu.
"Ah?" Yuan Congshu turned off the engine, "No."
"If you have questions, ask now. I won't answer later," Ling Chunann teased, leaning closer.
Facing his beloved so close, Yuan Congshu swallowed hard, then pulled Ling Chunann closer, reclining the seat, his voice deep and husky, "My treasure, we can talk later."
Playing with fire, Ling Chunann thought.
Upon their return to the manor, Yuan Ji had been waiting.
Seeing Ling Chunann in Yuan Congshu's arms, he asked worriedly, "Your Highness, is he..." before noticing marks on Ling Chunann's neck and wisely changing the subject, "I've brought the three princes back, they're in the interrogation room. I'll take my leave."
With that, Yuan Ji hurried off.
Soon after, the group chat buzzed again.
Yuan Ji boasted about capturing a formidable elder alone, a feat the others doubted. After proving it with photos, the group was astounded, questioning how he managed to capture such powerful figures single-handedly.
Yuan Ji hinted at his close relationship with the Blood Emperor, sparking curiosity and gossip among the members about the true nature of Ling Chunann and Yuan Congshu's relationship, a topic Yuan Ji playfully dodged before excusing himself for an urgent call from the Blood Emperor, leaving the others clamoring for more details.
