Observing the man's uncontrollable excitement, 098 suddenly realized that this might be the first time its host had ever taken a photo with a man in such a manner. The system couldn't help but internally remark on the man's blindingly bright smile with a hint of jealousy.
The next day, as promised, Yuan Congshu dropped Ling Chunann off at the school's entrance.
"Before you go," Ling Chunann called out to Yuan Congshu, "can you have someone look for a decent apartment near the school for me?"
"Do you want to live outside the school? I bought an apartment last month in the Jingyuan complex near your school. You can move in whenever you want," Yuan Congshu offered.
Yuan Congshu had everything planned from the moment Ling Chunann left home to attend school, ensuring a place nearby in case Ling Chunann decided not to return with him after a month.
Seeing through Yuan Congshu's intentions, Ling Chunann gave him a sideways glance, clarifying, "It's not for me. It's for those two classmates of mine. They want to move out."
"Are you referring to the two female classmates from yesterday?" Yuan Congshu asked, a hint of grievance in his voice when Ling Chunann nodded, "You really care about them."
A mischievous spark flashed in Ling Chunann's eyes as he solemnly stated, "We've been friends since childhood. I naturally want to help when they're in need."
"Alright then, I'll look for a place for them later," Yuan Congshu agreed, unwilling to disappoint his precious Ling Chunann.
098 internally sighed at the tang of jealousy from Yuan Congshu, whose possessiveness seemed eternal.
With Yuan Congshu's agreement, Ling Chunann nodded, "I'm off to class then. Call me once you've found something, and I'll bring them over to check the place out."
"Sure," Yuan Congshu responded, pulling Ling Chunann back for a quick kiss before letting go, "Hurry along now, you've got class."
Watching the car drive away, Ling Chunann chuckled, "It turns out even ancient vampires can be shy."
Once the man was gone, 098 relaxed its guard and asked, "Host, how did you notice?"
"098, how come you haven't improved after all this time? Observation is key," Ling Chunann chided, feeling a bit helpless at the system's lack of perception.
"Sorry, host. I'll be more observant in the future," 098 promised, feeling irresponsible.
"Admitting your mistakes is good," Ling Chunann commended.
The fact was, Yuan Congshu, as the supreme vampire, usually managed to conceal most of his emotions. However, since he had split the core of the vampire king and implanted it into Ling Chunann, Ling Chunann could now sense most of his emotions, including his shyness.
Shortly after entering the school, Ling Chunann ran into Su Zijing and Zhang Yunya coming from the dormitory.
Su Zijing waved excitedly upon seeing him and approached with Zhang Yunya, "Yiheng, you're early today. There's still half an hour before class."
"Have you two had breakfast?" Ling Chunann inquired.
"We were just heading to the cafeteria," Zhang Yunya replied, now much more at ease around Ling Chunann, no longer blushing as before.
Twenty minutes into the class, Zhang Yunya returned and took the seat next to Ling Chunann, staring at him pensively as if she wanted to say something.
"If you have a question, ask now before class starts," Ling Chunann noted, glancing at the time.
Zhang Yunya hesitated before asking about the previous day's encounter with Yang Mingxuan, "Shu Yiheng, how did you do it? Su Zijing mentioned that vampires are terrifying, yet you're so powerful."
"I'm sorry, I can't answer that," Ling Chunann responded, "Any other questions?"
Despite Ling Chunann's refusal, Zhang Yunya persisted, "Was the call you received outside the alley from that uncle? The way you two interact doesn't seem like a typical uncle-nephew relationship. What's your actual relationship with him?"
"098, she's quite the gossip, isn't she?" remarked 098, noting her acute perception of Ling Chunann and Yuan Congshu's unique relationship.
"Do you think everyone is like you?" Ling Chunann retorted.
"..." 098 admitted its mistake.
As Zhang Yunya eagerly awaited Ling Chunann's response, the class bell rang, and she was still lost in thought when the teacher called for attention.
"Zhang Yunya, stand up, please!" the teacher commanded amid the silent classroom.
Following a brief moment of confusion, Zhang Yunya stood up, exclaiming, "Here!"
The class erupted into laughter, and the
teacher, visibly displeased, deducted a point for inattentiveness, "Not focusing in class, minus one point. Sit down."
Zhang Yunya quickly sat down, then turned to Ling Chunann, still processing the situation, "But how is that possible?"
"Hmm?"
"It's nothing; I'm just surprised," she mumbled, playing with her pen, "Does Su Zijing know about you having a boyfriend?"
"Not yet. We've only just made it official; I haven't had the chance to tell her. Why?" Ling Chunann sensed something subtle in her tone.
"Could you maybe wait a bit longer before telling her? Just keep things as they were before," Zhang Yunya pleaded.
"Sure," Ling Chunann agreed.
Seeing Ling Chunann's consent, Zhang Yunya beamed, "Thank you!"
After a month of dieting, Zhang Yunya hadn't slimmed down completely but her features, including her dimpled smile, became more prominent, making her a cute plump girl.
"098, she wouldn't have been swayed by the heroine, would she?" Ling Chunann mused. In the original story, Zhang Cuiflower had always been enamored with Yang Mingxuan. If not for the heroine's kindness, which saved her life and almost led to her death for Yang Mingxuan, why would her attitude towards the heroine now seem so peculiar?
"Host, I specialize in heterosexual and occasionally no-couple worlds, so I'm not particularly knowledgeable about same-sex relationships," 098 admitted its limitations.
However, Ling Chunann wasn't seeking 098's opinion, "It seems there's no rush in finding a new boyfriend for the heroine. I thought the vampire hunter leader would be a good match."
098 agreed, recognizing the leader's appeal from the original story. Yet, it reminded Ling Chunann, "Host, you already have Yuan Congshu."
"098, why are you turning your back on me?"
"..."
Toward the end of the class, Ling Chunann received a text message from Yuan Congshu.
"Darling, I've found the apartment. It's in the Xueyuan complex, just a five-minute walk from the school. It's a two-bedroom, and I'll be waiting for you guys at the school gate. Call them over, and we'll go check out the apartment together."
Yuan Congshu was known for his reliability, and the apartment, with its complete furnishings, robust security, and reasonable rent, naturally pleased the two girls. They decided to move in that very afternoon.
After helping them move, Ling Chunann sat in the passenger seat while Yuan Congshu drove back to the estate. Suddenly, 098's voice chimed in, "Host, Male Lead No. 3 has appeared. He lives in the same complex as the heroine."
"Why couldn't we detect him earlier?" Ling Chunann scanned the area but didn't sense any vampire presence in the complex.
"He might have been in hibernation," 098 explained. "I only sensed him as we got closer. He's in the top floor of the building to the northeast."
"Got it."
"Are you tired, darling?" Yuan Congshu asked, noticing Ling Chunann's silence.
"Not tired."
"Hungry?"
"Not hungry," Ling Chunann replied before asking, "What's wrong?"
Yuan Congshu's expression turned somewhat gloomy, "Do you dislike spending time with me?"
"Why would you say that?"
"You've been away from home for so long, and now that you're finally back, you're still constantly thinking about your female classmates, helping them with this and that. You've never done anything for me," Yuan Congshu complained.
Sensing his underlying hope, Ling Chunann internally rolled his eyes, not indulging his sentiment, "So if I say I like my female classmates, are you going to kick me out of the estate?"
Faced with such an unpredictable response, Yuan Congshu had no choice but to surrender. How could he possibly kick Ling Chunann out, especially after finally persuading him to return? He quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, darling."
"Hmm?"
"Don't move out," Yuan Congshu pleaded urgently.
Ling Chunann tried to hold back but eventually burst into laughter. After a while, he turned to look at Yuan Congshu's profile and said with a smile, "I like you."
The car, which had been moving smoothly, suddenly swerved, drawing an S-shape on the road.
Concerned, Ling Chunann glanced at Yuan Congshu's hold on the steering wheel, "Be careful, the steering wheel is going to come off again." They hadn't even fixed yesterday's car.
But it was a bit too late for Ling Chunann's reminder. Holding the steering wheel awkwardly, Yuan Congshu smiled at him, "Darling, how about I carry you back instead?"
