The island was falling. It was unclear whether Ning Lang was dead or had withdrawn control over the gravitational force holding the island, focusing solely on dealing with Nie Jia and Shen Su.
The blade, bearing the weight of three, emitted a piercing creak under the tension. Soon, propelled by inertia, the trio crashed violently into the bottom of the elevator shaft. Shi Chen, holding onto the knife handle, managed to prevent the others from being injured, but the entire island sank into the sea. Subsequently, the cable snapped amidst the violent shaking, and the elevator began to plummet rapidly.
Shi Chen kicked Song Nuanyang to a corner, ensuring he stood firm. The elevator shaft wasn't long, and the entire free fall lasted only a dozen seconds. Finally, they crashed into the water. Shi Chen bit his lip, a metallic taste filling his mouth.
Water began to pour in from the top of the elevator shaft, quickly rising to their calves. Shi Chen had no time to let Meng Jia treat him and immediately began prying open the door with his knife. Otherwise, all three would drown in the elevator.
After creating a gap in the elevator door, Shi Chen pushed it open, and seawater gushed into the corridor.
"Shi Chen..." Meng Jia twisted the water from her hair, her gaze alert as she looked towards the other end of the corridor, lowering her voice. "It's An Yuan."
Shi Chen turned around and saw the smirk on the young man's lips.
"Where's he?" Shi Chen asked Song Nuanyang in a low voice.
Song Nuanyang knew An Yuan. He was a fifth-rank fire ability user, not easy to deal with. Moreover, An Yuan harbored great malice towards Shi Chen and Nie Jia. Song Nuanyang tensed up. He closed his eyes and sensed the surroundings, frowning. "He's still downstairs."
By now, the seawater in the corridor had almost reached their calves. The lower floors were likely already flooded.
"I never thought you'd have the guts to come here. It suits me well." An Yuan took a step forward, playing with a ball of flame in his palm.
The corridor lights flickered, and water continued to pour into the elevator shaft, rising steadily.
Shi Chen looked at An Yuan expressionlessly, tapping his thigh impatiently with the hunting knife. "Can't you move aside?"
Meng Jia: "..."
Song Nuanyang whispered, "Shi Chen, do you know who he is?"
"The little follower who used to chase after Jiajia." Shi Chen's words carried a hint of jealousy. Since Nie Jia left the Hunters, An Yuan had undergone a drastic change in temperament and even opposed Oasis and the government. Who knew what this kid was up to.
"I want you to die here. Will I move aside?" An Yuan ignited the flame in his palm, which suddenly grew to the size of a soccer ball. He took a sudden step forward towards Shi Chen, the flames intensifying, as if he wanted to incinerate Shi Chen completely in his fury!
Shi Chen met the attack with his knife. The strike was deadly, the blade carrying a fierce killing intent and dignity. He didn't fear An Yuan's flames. With a single-handed flip, the hunting knife left a huge arc in the air, immediately aimed at severing An Yuan's hand.
The flames licked Shi Chen's clothes, but just as An Yuan gained the upper hand, he suddenly extinguished all the flames at a critical moment and staggered back two steps in a nervous manner.
The confrontation between the two lasted only a moment, a brief clash.
Shi Chen stood still, impatiently tapping his thigh with the hunting knife. An Yuan, standing in the water, frowned irritably. He raised his hand, and suddenly, blood gushed from a wound on his wrist, deep enough to expose bone. If he hadn't instinctively dodged earlier, his hand might have been lost.
"You brat, not understanding the situation. You're trying to overturn Oasis by controlling Ning Lang. What are you trying to accomplish by provoking war? Do you know how many people will die?" Shi Chen said.
"Regardless of how many people die, what does it matter to me?" An Yuan wrapped his wrist with torn clothes to stop the bleeding, retreating step by step, sneering. "Indeed, you are the commander of the special operations unit. I can't kill you in close combat, but how long can your knife reach? After you die, I'll immediately send Nie Jia to join you!"
"You two, stay back." Shi Chen turned his head coldly to Song Nuanyang and Meng Jia, then pulled out a gun rope, firmly tying his hand to the knife handle.
Between them, a battle and a murderous intent loomed large.
Meng Jia was anxious, and Song Nuanyang's heart pounded. These two couldn't fight!
"The entire island is flooded now. At the current rate, this floor will be submerged in less than ten minutes. Releasing your flames here will only dry up the air!" Song Nuanyang hurriedly said.
"Then let's die together!" An Yuan smirked.
"He wasn't like this before..." Meng Jia murmured sadly.
Song Nuanyang's eyes widened as if he had realized something.
The flames spread across the water's surface, and Shi Chen pounced like a hawk, his strike aiming for a kill. The blade, sharp and precise, targeted the young man engulfed in flames. An Yuan's hatred for Shi Chen, who had been abandoned by his leader because of Shi Chen, was indescribable.
"You've always admired and followed Nie Jia, but he never abandoned you. From start to finish, he never existed." Song Nuanyang's voice pierced through the flames and reached An Yuan's ears. He pressed his temple, flooding An Yuan's mind with all the facts.
Despite this, An Yuan did not stop. Like a cannonball, Shi Chen was smashed against the wall by a blast of air, and as the air rapidly dissipated, the flames receded. An Yuan staggered back a step, his face pale as he covered the bleeding wound on his neck. He had melted Shi Chen's knife just now... An Yuan wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and realized that Shi Chen's left wrist had sprung a sharp little knife at some point.
By now, the water level had risen above their knees. Shi Chen, using one hand to support himself, stood up. Meng Jia had treated all the injuries on him. She whispered, "Lieutenant Song is negotiating with An Yuan."
Shi Chen's eyes were slightly blurred. An Yuan's knife had cut half an inch into his neck, and blood was oozing out from between his fingers. But An Yuan didn't seem to care much about his own injuries. Instead, he glared at Song Nuanyang with bloodshot eyes. "You're talking nonsense! Ability users like you can change others' thoughts and memories at will. Don't think I don't know!"
Shi Chen couldn't understand what the two were talking about, and Meng Jia shook her head, equally confused. She thought Song Nuanyang had really done something to An Yuan's memories.
"I didn't control you or tamper with your memories. You should be able to feel it." Song
Nuanyang said.
An Yuan gritted his teeth, his eyes bloodshot. "It's impossible!"
"It's true." A childish voice came from the corridor behind them. Ripples spread across the water's surface as a wet little girl with black hair and red eyes walked out. Her voice carried an unnaturally calm tone as she spoke mercilessly to An Yuan, "Otherwise, do you think I controlled Oasis just to listen to you? It's just because, like you, I want revenge on Nie Jia."
"What do you mean?" An Yuan frowned and asked.
"Is it her?" Shi Chen looked at Song Nuanyang, who had retreated to his side with a nervous and fearful expression, guessing that the little girl in front of them was probably the mastermind they were looking for.
Song Nuanyang nodded. He hadn't expected it to be such a young girl. He closed his eyes and then reopened them, whispering, "Ning Lang has been subdued by Nie Jia and Shen Su. Should be fine now, right?"
Shi Chen felt somewhat relieved. It seemed that she had come out because Ning Lang, the most powerful combatant, had lost consciousness and couldn't control herself.
"Xiao Zhen?" Meng Jia widened her eyes in shock, unbelieving. "How could it be you? When did you have this kind of power?"
"I didn't have it originally..." Xie Feng lowered her head, looking at her delicate white hands, then suddenly gritted her teeth with resentment. "If it weren't for Nie Jia and Shi Chen, I wouldn't have become like this! Do you know how painful it is for me? Countless voices drill into my head every day, cursing, screaming, howling with hatred. I don't want to hear, but I have to! I could have avoided all of this, but because of Nie Jia, I was created, struggling in this world full of pain but meaningless. Why should I bear all this?!"
"You know that Nie Jia is also a victim!" Song Nuanyang said angrily.
"I don't care. All I know is that all of this started because of him, so he has to pay!" Xie Feng's eyes trembled slightly. Suddenly, An Yuan erupted, a surging flame bursting from his palm, intending to incinerate the three of them!
"She's controlling An Yuan!" Song Nuanyang explained anxiously, then, along with Meng Jia, was kicked by Shi Chen into the elevator, submerged in water, and choked on a mouthful of water before barely climbing up. He felt a tremor under his feet and then the entire elevator suddenly lost balance, bursting out of the water.
Song Nuanyang was almost swept away by the current. He looked up from the gap in the door and saw Shen Su, covered in scars.
"Nuanyang!" Shen Su stood in mid-air, and with a pinch of his fingers, the elevator door was hit by a shell and flew off. He rushed in, embracing Song Nuanyang and anxiously patting his head.
Tears welled up in Song Nuanyang's eyes. Perhaps because they had just been in a dangerous situation and had only been apart for less than an hour, they hugged each other tightly, missing and rejoicing as if they hadn't seen each other for generations.
Meng Jia was squeezed into a corner, her eyes unable to settle anywhere, so she silently treated the minor wounds on Shen Su's body.
"Where's Shi Chen?" Nie Jia's cold voice interrupted them.
Song Nuanyang remembered that Shi Chen was still in the corridor. He let go of Shen Su and looked down. The entire main island had indeed sunk into the sea. He nervously said, "Shi Chen is still below!"
Nie Jia tensed up immediately, mobilizing all his mental power to lift the entire island from the sea!
Shen Su's injuries had completely healed, and he also quickly released his ability to lift the island.
As soon as it emerged from the surface, Nie Jia rushed down, demolishing all the buildings blocking the way along the way.
Once Nie Jia went down, Song Nuanyang was no longer worried about anything. He turned his head and found that only the main island had sunk. He couldn't help but ask, "Ning Lang isn't dead?"
"No, Nie Jia crushed his spine. Now he's paralyzed. If he had died, all the islands would have sunk, costing tens of millions of lives. Without instructions from the president's side, we wouldn't dare to take action." Shen Su said.
Song Nuanyang nodded. Even though he learned that Ning Lang had been crippled, he still felt somewhat uneasy. That girl and the remaining millions of ability users wouldn't be easy to deal with.
