Reika x Jo Conned - Totally Stuffed

*Attention visitors! Reika the Super Dominatrix is doing live demonstrations in Hall B, right now! Step right up if you want to feel the bite of the strictest ropes and the harshest gags!* Jo had been very hesistant to come with her two stuffed friends to the bondage convention. But she'd seen there was a beginners course on escaping ropes, she figured she might as well tag along to learn something (being very adept at getting tied up, but beyond bad at actually getting out...) But things did not quite go as she expected, when  she took directions from Bunny...

 Whew! This pic had become like an infinity project for me, but it's finally done! Reika ( https://www.deviantart.com/reika-kotomi ) commissioned me to make it, and to make it as a sort of tribute to a bunch of cool other artists. I loved this idea, so I decided to  feature a bunch of extra characters that weren't in the original brief :D

Because I wanted everyone to be able to get a version of their charaacter in a size that was like a full picture on their own, I made the pic HUGE (So if you need a new poster at home... :D ), and then I drew basically each character separately so you could get each one without her getting covered by someone else. It made for an immense filesize, and it took AGES.

Here are some thoughts as I go through the pics in the folder;

I had a general idea of how I wanted the pic to be when I started, but as you can see, it was quite different at first (WIP1,3). I quickly realized that it was a bit too much to have multiple frames from different angles like this, and it became too comic-y. I wanted something that felt more like a single pic.
WIP2 is just a first look on how Jo might be tied. I knew I wanted her to have a pantyhose hood that was connected back to her ropes.
WIP4,5 I took the help, as I do every now and again when I have to figure out tricky stuff, of the studio that's included in hentai game HoneySelect. I use it for just posing characters and figuring out angles and stuff. I really only need the very basic shapes of characters, but I love character creators, so of course I created all the characters in the pic a biiit too detailed.  I came up with a pretty good composition for the pic, in any case.
Then I went over that super roughly (WIP6), and I had my first proper sketch. Though I COULD use the HS reference more, as it's quite detailed, it's always better to just use reference loosely imo. Otherwise you risk losing a bunch of what makes your art yours, and it ends up just looking like drawn over 3d models (which... it is.)

I decided to do two separate panels for Wossy and her tied friends and Rei/Jo.
That way I didn't have to think too hard about doing a full background that worked in perspective etc. I did a similar thing in the recent Halloween picture I did. But Wossy connects the two frames together, barging in, full of excitement :)

WIP7 is a very quick sketch of the background characters.
WIP 8-13; here I refine the sketches of all the ladies a bit. I'm still not decided on how Jo should be tied and stuff at this point. But I (WIP14) try to draw her head... And realize she needs more gag :D
I do a little linework test on Wossy(WIP15). It looks a little bit too cartoonish, and I decide I need to do the lines a little thinner and more precise.
A quick sketch of Elana in the background (WIP16)... She's a character thats perpetually enslaved, and so has a big steel collar. I found the idea fun that she pulls it in the classic cartoon pull-your-collar-going-GULP thing :) First time I've ever drawn her untied...

Then the finished background sketch (WIP17 )and background characters too. Or kind of - there's still a character in the far left that I haven't quite figured out yet.
The shocked looking lady in the middle is just someone random. I could have added another cameo there, but I knew we'd only really be able to see her face and like... a boot, so there was no point.

Finally, after a bunch of drawing and erasing and trying, I get a good idea of how Jo should look (WIP18). Stuffing + huge harness ballgag + tape and who knows what else makes for a big bulge in the tape. I leave her with one shoe, because... Well I like drawing sneakers :D
And then (WIP19) the whole thing together, with the finished sketch of the mini frame in the lower right too.
I made a logo (WIP20) for Reika - Supreme Dominatrix, to have on the sign in the top left. But when I put in the picture, only a little of it gets shown :D But it's like... details like these that make for a more expansive world. ... or something.

WIP21 is just the background lines. With all the stuff happening, I didn't want to do too much crazy stuff in the bg. But I included a bunch of space for posters. That's because I realized that when I would be coloring, I'd probably need to be able to put some dashes of color here and there. So when coloring the background (WIP22), I added a buch of silly little posters. The big one in the middle of the right panel, is for a special event I made up, at Suichi's Capture Kingdom - a bondage themed amusement park.
The two posters to the left of that I designed so when Aeria stood in front of them, they'd kind of (by giving her the classic anime lines zooming out from her head) show her reaction to getting volunteered to be Reikas next subject.
The other posters were just kind of random - though the one we can only see half of, to the far right, was inspired by this one, that I really liked the design of. Really they were only there to balance the color. Jo was so red, so I needed some red in this part of the pic too.

WIP 24-32 I'm showing these various parts of the pic as kind of separate pieces now, with lineart, then flats, then shading, then highlights, Not much to say about these.
I did do all the background characters in a neutral tone, just kind of in a daylight-ish color at first, then I (WIP26) darknened them to blend into the background better.

In WIP33, I've added a bit of textured spotlights and stuff in front of the background and background characters. Kind of like a visual representation of the stale air in a convention hall :D
WIP34-43 is just going through the characters lines, flats, shade, highlights. Then (WIP44) is the "sign" Mel has on her chest. Suichi wanted something a bit humiliating, and I ran with it. Since it had to look good printed on her jacket, I eventually redrew most of it by hand.
WIP45-49 works through Wossy and then just that whole gang together. Since I wanted each lady to be able to be shown separate, without the others, I had to do the leashes separately. Thus Wossy's hand looks a bit weird, since I did a space for where the leashes went in front of it. Looking back at it now, I probably could just have drawn her full hand and then put the leashes on top in a smart way. I dunno what I was thinking...

I put this lot into the scene as well, and tweak their colors a bit to better fit them in, color wise (WIP50). The panel border here is drawn separate from the rest of the borders on the picture, since it's behind Wossy but in front of everything else.

WIP51-54, Jo and Rei get finished too. I tried to figure out Jo's coloring for soo long. Also the color of the ropes Rei uses...
There's so many color elements in the picture (which we can see in WIP55), and they all kind of have to work togtether. There's some things that like... can't be altered - Wossy's hair is blue, Mel's hair is orange/red, Shio's suit is purple...
Usually, if theres just one little thing in a stand out color, that thing will draw a bit too much attention. So I used Jo's outifit to compliment those things where the color was already decided.  
I had to give her pantyhose hood a pretty bright color, rather than the standard brown hose, because if it had been darker her headhad disappeared in the background shadows.

Finally, Bunny and Panda get drawn and colored (WIP56-59), and it's done! Just slap that border on it and boom.

Whoof thata was a lot, huh!?

As I've done a few times in the past, I've included transparent background PNG's of the characters. Just so they get their own separate piece!

And finally, as a silly little extra, I included a little doodle of Jo getting pulled around by a HUGE Reika :D Just for funsies haha
