Rod patted Ling Chunann on the back reassuringly, "Nothing's wrong. You can go back to sleep for a bit."
098 chimed in, "Host, he's the younger brother of General Karu Lan from the imperial family, named Orr."
"Hmm? Him?" Ling Chunann perked up a bit, pulling himself up from the man's embrace. "Let's go check it out."
In the original plot, Orr Karu Lan died at the age of eight. The protagonist stumbled upon his body and, incidentally, killed the bandits responsible for Orr's death. Eventually, the Imperial General discovered this and was grateful. When the protagonist ascended to power, he repaid the favor by helping Orr at a crucial moment. But now, according to 098's information, this kid is still alive.
Bru Nant hopped off the car and looked at the small figure lying on the ground. He checked for a pulse under his nose and, finding one, couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. "He's alive."
"What's going on?" Ling Chunann's voice came from behind.
"Reporting to Third Prince, this child suddenly dashed into the middle of the road and fainted," Bru Nant replied. "But he seemed very panicked just now, as if someone was chasing him." He pointed to a nearby fork in the road. "He ran out from there."
Ling Chunann stepped out of the car, intending to examine the situation closely, but was suddenly stopped by a force. "I'll go check."
"There's nothing wrong, probably just hungry," Rod completely ignored the bruises on the child's body, making sure there was no danger to his life. He then noticed a red string around the boy's neck and reached out to pull it out, revealing a small pendant.
"It's the emblem of the Karu Lan family!" Bru Nant exclaimed. Others who had just heard the commotion were also shocked by the presence of this item on the child.
The Karu Lan family is the first general family of the Lante Empire, controlling one-third of the empire's forces, even the Emperor treats them with respect.
This generation of the Karu Lan family has only two children. The older one is named Digar Karu Lan, a sixth-level swordsman at the Imperial Academy's fifth grade, the same grade as Ling Chunann's current identity. As for the other, no one knows his name, only that he's considerably younger than Digar and hasn't enrolled in school yet.
"Could he be the young master of the Karu Lan family?" Although Bru Nant said this, he had basically confirmed the child's identity.
"Bring him onto the carriage," Ling Chunann ordered.
Rod was about to suggest putting him in the back carriage when Ling Chunann said, "Bring him onto my carriage."
"...," Seeing the nearly two-meter-tall man looking so helpless, 098 felt like laughing. It just wanted to say, "That's what you get for being indulgent!" But 098 dared only laugh inwardly. Lately, it had been stifling, especially when this colorful dragon could act all coquettish even inside the carriage. What's scarier is that the Dragon Language magic could perfectly conceal what they were doing, and most terrifyingly, the host seemed to enjoy it most of the time!
Ling Chunann pretended not to notice the man's expression and had Bru Nant place the boy in the carriage before climbing in himself.
Rod hurriedly followed suit onto the carriage. He couldn't let his precious one be alone with another man, even if that man was just an eight-year-old boy.
As Rod was about to undress the boy, his hand was grasped. The man's attentive voice sounded in his ears, "I'll do it."
"Sure, go ahead," Ling Chunann said, feeling relieved. "Just be careful not to hurt him and give him some treatment while you're at it."
Although reluctant, in order to avoid tiring his precious one, Rod diligently undressed the boy, applied some medicine, and then wrapped him in a blanket.
Ling Chunann glanced at the boy's only exposed head and then looked at Rod, who was seeking approval. He smiled at him, "Good job."
The boy hadn't been asleep for long when he woke up to find Ling Chunann pushing away the man who was touching him. He straightened his clothes and looked at the already awake child.
Ling Chunann quickly noticed something was off. The boy's gaze was fixed on him as he observed, yet his eyes seemed vacant.
"Is he... a little slow?" 098 also asked the same question.
Then the boy suddenly spoke, looking directly at Ling Chunann, "Mom."
"...?" Ling Chunann suddenly felt the urge to slap him.
"Oops..." This was 098, who promised not to mock the host anymore.
Just as Ling Chunann was about to educate the little one, the boy shifted his gaze and looked at Rod, then after a while said, "Dad."
Rod, who was a little annoyed that his precious one was called "Mom" by this inexplicable child, suddenly burst into a smile, "Good boy."
Ling Chunann: "..."
It had to be admitted that this child had some connection to Ling Chunann's identity in this world, namely, the Third Prince. Orr's mother is the sister of the current queen, meaning that, in terms of blood relations, Orr should call Ling Chunann cousin. The two do resemble each other somewhat. Therefore, when he heard the boy call Ling Chunann "Mom," everyone, including Bru Nant, was stunned.
But then, when they heard him call Rod "Dad," everyone calmed down. It seemed this little guy's cognitive concept might be a bit off.
In other words, he didn't recognize people at all, and perhaps there was some intellectual deficiency, or maybe he had just experienced something traumatic, making him particularly timid. After waking up, he only showed expressions and spoke to Ling Chunann and Rod.
But as for why he ended up here, he didn't say a word about it.
Half a month later, two carriages arrived outside the imperial city.
Two city gate guards stopped them. "Please pull back the carriage curtain and show your identification."
Bru Nant paused and asked, "Hello, we're students from the Imperial Royal Academy, just returned from training. Is there anything unusual happening recently?" Previously, entering the city only required identification, and there was no need to personally inspect individuals.
"Recently, General Karu Lan's young master from the Karu Lan family has gone missing. The king has ordered a city-wide search, and all incoming and outgoing vehicles are to be strictly inspected. If any child resembling him is found, it must be reported," said the city gate guard officiously.
Bru Nant was taken aback, then asked, "Is the Karu Lan family's young master named Orr?"
"How did you know?" The guard's face turned suspicious, then he brightened. "Have you seen him?"
"Notify the Karu Lan family members to come and pick up their young master," Ling Chunann's voice came from inside the carriage.
Upon hearing this, the nearby city gate guards exchanged glances, their eyes full of vigilance. Then, a tall young man wearing a helmet stood in front of the carriage. "Hello, I'm Ed, captain of the East City Guard. I once had a chance encounter with Young Master Orr. May I have a look at him first?"
Recently, too many children had come claiming to be relatives of the Karu Lan family, making him unavoidably vigilant.
Ling Chunann glanced at the little one who was huddled and tugging at his sleeve, gesturing with his eyes for the Dragon to lift the curtain.
The so-called Ed first saw the imposing and cold-looking Dragon, his eyes flashed with solemnity, and then he saw Ling Chunann behind him. The initial vigilance collapsed instantly, and he kneeled down. "Third Officer Ed Lintle pays respects to the Third Prince."
Ling Chunann glanced at the kneeling man. "No need for formalities." Then he continued, "I just returned from a trip and happened to find this child fallen in front of my carriage. Seeing him wearing the Karu Lan family emblem, I brought him back with me." Ling Chunann explained briefly. "Go and inform someone to come and pick him up."
"Yes, Third Prince, I'll go now," Ed answered respectfully.
"Mama! I don't want to go anywhere. I want to be with you!" Seemingly hearing that he was going to be sent away, the little one protested, tugging at Ling Chunann's sleeve. "I'll be good, please don't leave me."
The expression of the captain, who was about to turn around, suddenly stiffened. This little one didn't seem quite right. Why did he call the Third Prince "Mom"? But, maybe he misheard it. He wasn't quite sure.
"Dad, please persuade Mom not to send me away!"
The captain's expression finally cracked. He suspected this little one might have been picked up by the Third Prince from somewhere else.
"Are you not leaving yet?"
"Yes!"
Even if he was picked up, the Third Prince's orders couldn't be ignored. Despite doubts, Ed quickly rushed to the Karu Lan family in the city. He was extremely lucky. He had barely gone a mile when he ran into Digar Karu Lan walking on the street.
As one of the main supporting characters, Digar's appearance was much more handsome than the protagonist's, with his blond hair, blue eyes, and sharp features, exuding a gentlemanly air.
Ling Chunann's gaze paused on Digar's face, then he patted the timid little one beside him. "Orr, do you recognize your brother?"
The little one leaned toward Ling Chunann again, looking at his own brother with unfamiliar eyes.
Digar, who had just been excited, smiled wryly. "Your Highness, as you may have noticed on your journey, my brother is a bit... shy. Perhaps because you saved him, he's now attached to you and won't leave."
"Well," Ling Chunann patted the little one's head. "I'll take him back for you."
"Host, why are you suddenly so kind?" 098 interjected.
"It's rare to see a supporting character as handsome as me."
"...,"
"Actually, Orr had a good memory when he was two or three years old. But ever since our mother passed away in front of him, he became like this," Digar explained to Ling Chunann on the way back. "He can't remember anyone and doesn't recognize anyone, so he's prone to getting lost. We usually don't let him out, but this time, a servant accidentally left the door open, and he slipped out."
After explaining to Digar about the encounter with Orr, Ling Chunann could see Digar's immense frustration.
After sending the little one back to the mansion, Ling Chunann was about to leave when the little one grabbed onto his sleeve again.
"Third Prince, thank you." Digar hugged Orr and addressed Ling Chunann. "If there's anything you need in the future, feel free to ask for my help."
"Reversal value +10%, current reversal value is 30%, please continue your efforts, Host."
Amidst the little one's tearful entreaties, Ling Chunann, with the Dragon in tow, returned to the carriage, then was pinned against the carriage wall.
