In the end, the two couldn't make it in time.
Shi Chen squatted on the side of the street, hugging the luggage like a hungry dog, looking utterly aggrieved. Nie Jia chuckled and squatted beside him, saying softly, "Registering a marriage with a foreign nationality isn't that quick. They need to review it. Even if we had made it today, we wouldn't have gotten the certificate."
Shi Chen stood up dispiritedly, holding the suitcase in one hand and the hand of his almost-certified wife in the other, heading towards the reserved hotel. Nie Jia shook his head as they interlocked hands, saying with a hint of helplessness, "Why are you so eager to get married? It's just one day, and you're already upset."
Shi Chen, upon hearing this, widened his eyes and retorted, "Don't you want to marry me?"
"We've been married three times already!" Nie Jia gestured an 'ok' sign with his hand.
Shi Chen raised an eyebrow, pulling Nie Jia towards him, opening his coat and wrapping him inside. He blissfully remarked, "It's not three times, just twice. Last time wasn't a wedding; it was a union, my king."
Nie Jia blushed instantly, reminded of the more embarrassing process of a union compared to simply obtaining a marriage certificate.
Under the pitch-black hem of their clothes, two pairs of long legs stumbled and tangled. Nie Jia embraced Shi Chen around the waist, their faces flushed with warmth and sweetness.
"But this isn't our world. Whether we get married or not, it's all the same," Nie Jia said when they finally separated at the hotel front desk. However, they still held hands. Shi Chen was busy with check-in procedures, and Nie Jia whispered as he leaned against Shi Chen's back.
"When we go back, we should get married. Consider it early practice." Shi Chen completed the check-in and casually asked the front desk about the embassy's working hours in the morning.
The receptionist, seeing their linked hands, immediately understood. After providing the information, he even offered a congratulatory remark.
"After we go back, are we getting married too?" Nie Jia looked somewhat lost, as if the real world had become so distant that he was almost forgetting it.
Could they not only be free from guilt but also get married upon returning?
Although they had been together through thick and thin three times, recalling it made Nie Jia feel being with Shi Chen was still unbelievable.
"Of course, unless you don't want me anymore." After finishing the check-in, Shi Chen stuffed the suitcase into the closet. He turned around, seeing Nie Jia still standing at the door looking perplexed. Unable to resist, he softened his gaze and approached, taking Nie Jia's hand and placing a kiss on his lips. "Your loyal and hardworking knight has fought his way in. When we ride back home on our grand horses, shouldn't you reward him well?"
"Sure," Nie Jia smiled with relief, the corners of his eyes blushing with a hint of shyness. "Let's get married, then."
Shi Chen smiled too, lowered his head, and kissed him again.
"I'll take a shower first," Nie Jia said. "We can have dinner later."
"Wash together, my wife," Shi Chen nudged him into the bathroom, happily washing up together.
Later, before they could change into clothes and go out for a meal, Nie Jia received a call from China. It wasn't Ye Ying, and for now, Shi Chen couldn't discern what the matter was. Nie Jia stood by the window in a bathrobe, talking on the phone, displaying a demeanor far from the tender affection shared when they were together. Shi Chen sat on the bed, watching Nie Jia's silhouette, feeling an itch on his face, and absentmindedly scratched it.
Once he started scratching, he couldn't stop. Scratching here and there, his gaze repeatedly fixed on Nie Jia's figure. The smooth lines extended from his jaw to his neck and delicate collarbones, hidden beneath the bathrobe, seemed to have an extraordinary charm. Not only did Shi Chen's face itch, but his heart also itched.
He felt like he was drunk on wine, with a flush on his cheeks. His gaze, like a tide, couldn't help but stick to Nie Jia.
Unable to resist, Shi Chen lowered his head and scratched his eyebrow. Even though he had already thoroughly inspected him in the shower, he didn't expect that just wearing a bathrobe could still have such a great impact.
He lay back on the bed, exhaling a burning breath.
Not long after, Nie Jia hung up the phone. Turning his head, he thought Shi Chen had fallen asleep. He approached gently, kneeling on the bed and looking at him. "Shi Chen?"
Shi Chen had intended to feign sleep for a surprise attack, but as soon as he heard Nie Jia's voice, he couldn't hold back his happiness. He turned his head and asked with a satisfied smile, "What's wrong in China that's bothering you?"
"Nothing, just a little matter with the company's artist. I've already asked the secretary to handle it," Nie Jia chuckled.
"Why would an artist need to call you, the big boss? What's your deputy general manager doing?" Shi Chen frowned displeasedly.
Nie Jia replied, "It's his doing, Lin Haoran's people. But it's not a problem now. I'll deal with it when I return to the country."
Lying down, Shi Chen made a sound of acknowledgment. His eyes were still a bit red, especially since Nie Jia was so close. Looking down along the neckline, Shi Chen's desire was evident.
"Don't move, just stay like this." Shi Chen swiftly turned over from the bed like a carp flipping, took Nie Jia's phone, and started messing with something.
Thinking he was checking the recent call, Nie Jia obediently knelt on the bed without moving.
Suddenly, there was a click sound as Shi Chen took a photo with the phone.
Nie Jia's face turned red instantly. "What are you doing?"
Shi Chen, with a somewhat disappointed look, examined the photo for a moment. "Too bad, can't take it back. Darling, when we return, can you wear this for me? Hmm?"
Shi Chen pounced on the bed, squeezing Nie Jia into a corner, and started to playfully kiss and touch him.
"...Alright," Nie Jia whispered in his embrace.
Shi Chen smirked, holding him quietly without saying a word.
Nie Jia stole a glance at him, scratching his chest softly. "Why is your face red?"
"Because I love you too much," Shi Chen said matter-of-factly and asked, "Why is your face red?"
"I love you too." Nie Jia raised his hand, hugging Shi Chen's neck. The two exchanged a knowing smile and shared a lingering kiss.
The next morning, Shi Chen didn't rush to take Nie Jia to register their marriage. After all, they had spent half the night in exhaustion, and there was a time difference. They slept together until three in the afternoon before happily obtaining their marriage certificate.
While Ye Ying and the bodyguards were idling in China, Shi Chen and Nie Jia were sunbathing by the seaside, returning to the country only close to the movie release date. The promotion work in China had almost completed by now. After Han Manny released the trailer, the film's theme and special effects became the talk of the town. The movie didn't credit Nie Jia's name, only showcasing Sejia Media as the producer. So far, there were no major issues, and the film was generating significant buzz.
After returning to China, they visited the old lady once. Her health was deteriorating, with sunken cheeks and a sickly appearance. However, upon hearing about their marriage, she perked up momentarily, joking with Nie Jia and saying she would give him a red envelope. Finally, she turned to Shi Chen and asked, "Now that you two are married, are you planning to have children?"
"Children? Why bother with that? No need," Shi Chen said.
The old lady chuckled, "You, child, how do you speak?"
Nie Jia softly added, "Both Shi Chen and I are not very fond of children."
Feeling unwell, the old lady spoke tenderly, "The most important thing is that you two are together. If you don't like children, then don't have them. It's not good for both you and the child."
As the old lady spoke, she kept looking at Shi Chen, her eyes filled with apology and teary. Unfortunately, Shi Chen was no longer her son, and he didn't care about such things, his mind already thinking about what delicious meal he could prepare for his wife tonight.
Nie Jia, however, understood very well and tightly held Shi Chen's hand.
After the old lady fell asleep, the two bid farewell. Nie Jia clung to Shi Chen's arm, nestling close to him as they walked on the path covered with fallen leaves. "She feels very sorry for you. When she gave birth to you, Yiyuan had already been regarded by Grandpa Shi as the heir. The other children were dispensable to him. But she still gave birth to you, hoping to make Grandpa Shi see her efforts through the child, diverting his attention from her. Now their lifetime is almost over, even when she's on the brink of death, Grandpa Shi has never visited her. She should have regretted it long ago."
"Why think so much? We don't need children when we go back," Shi Chen said, grabbing his hand and holding it in his palm. He lowered his head, looking at Nie Jia's fair face, and chuckled softly, "My heart is full of you. There's no room for another child."
"Mom, it's Uncle." Lulu's voice came from afar, and Nie Jia looked up. Lu Duo was leading Lulu over.
"Aunt, Mr. Nie." Lu Duo respectfully greeted them.
"The old lady is sleeping. Come to see her tomorrow," Nie Jia said.
Shi Chen also added, "Is there anything going on with Lin Xian recently?"
Lu Duo naturally knew what he was asking. Glancing around, he whispered, "There's no issue on Qin City's side; everything is being handled according to your instructions. However, in Xia City, I heard that the Lin family is facing severe problems. They don't have enough funds on hand, and Dad wants to borrow from our side. Grandpa Lin hasn't made a statement yet, and we haven't been able to contact both of you. An Xian hasn't made up his mind either."
"Funds issue?" Nie Jia smirked, "We're family, after all. How can we not help? Let Lin Xian meet Qin Huai's dad. Lin Haoran is proud, and he might refuse the money from Lin Xian. Let Qin Huai's dad send the money in Qin Huai's name."
Lu Duo nodded but was somewhat puzzled. "Yes, I'll tell him. But why are you helping Lin Haoran?"
"Providing money without conditions is helping him. I have conditions," Nie Jia raised an eyebrow, his smile holding a mysterious meaning.
"Lin Haoran is in trouble, and Shi Yiyuan is not doing anything?" Shi Chen asked.
Lu Duo replied, "She has been persuading Grandpa to lend a hand to the Lin family. But it seems Grandpa is also in a dilemma. He hasn't agreed yet."
"Old man Shi knows well about the conflicts between his two grandsons since childhood. Now that he values Lin Xian so much, if he stretches his hand to help Lin Haoran, isn't he slapping his heir's face? Besides, Lin Haoran is currently useless; he has no value. If he hesitates, it means he's ruthless," Nie Jia said. He looked down and saw Lulu, who was staring expressionlessly at him without blinking. He sighed softly, "Don't let Lulu hear these words in the future. Both you and Lin Xian should avoid her a bit. She understands everything. Do you want her to become the second Shi Yiyuan?"
Lu Duo hadn't thought that Lulu could understand and absorb these manipulations among adults. After Nie Jia's reminder, she immediately woke up. She picked up Lulu, saying, "I'll take Lulu back first."
"What mischief are you planning?" Shi Chen asked casually while holding Nie Jia's hand as they returned to the car.
"A bet agreement; reciprocity. I have conditions," Nie Jia smiled, telling Ye Ying, "Go to the company."
During his time in New Zealand, the troublesome deputy general manager had made Nie Jia quite angry. Unexpectedly, this trivial matter had not been resolved promptly even after his return to China. Instead, it was exposed, creating a buzz online for several days. Typically, Nie Jia wouldn't get this worked up, but unfortunately, it happened right before the movie release, making Sejia Media's image especially crucial. These days, it made him feel like the company was in chaos!
When they arrived at the company, Shi Chen asked, "What do you want to eat tonight? I'll go prepare it now."
"Eat braised human flesh," Nie Jia gritted his teeth, entered the office, and instructed the secretary, "Summon the deputy general manager."
The author has something to say: "Eat braised human flesh," Nie Jia gritted his teeth, entered the office, and instructed the secretary, "Summon the deputy general manager."
