The Villain Slaps The Protagonist’s Halo - Chapter 102

Chapter 102: Love is a Green Light

Old Shi casually threw the contract onto the table, looking at Lin Haoran with indifference. His voice was flat as he said, "Do you have anything else to say?"

"Dad..."

Shi Yiyuan wanted to say something, but Old Shi glared at her. "Didn't ask you to speak."

"He Linxian has the ability to get Grandpa Qin's signature. I have nothing else to say." Lin Haoran's eyebrows showed a hint of barely concealed anger. His tone was somewhat impatient, "Since this matter is settled, and you have nothing else, I'll go back."

"Lin Haoran, have you grown wings? How dare you speak to your grandfather like this?!" Shi Yiyuan stood at the intersection of light and shadow, her eyes filled with a disappointed resentment.

Old Shi remained silent. Lin Haoran stood up from the ground, his face showing neither sadness nor joy. He said, "Grandpa, don't interfere in Nie Jia's affairs in the future. It's my private matter, and I will handle it."

"Will you?" Old Shi asked.

Lin Haoran lowered his head slightly, "Give me some time. I will."

"Your chances are not as abundant as time." Old Shi seemed weary, waved his hand casually, "Just go."

Lin Haoran's heart stirred, and he left as ordered.

Shi Yiyuan frowned, "Dad, we still haven't figured out Shi Chen's identity. You know that Nie Jia can't move for a while. What do you mean?"

Old Shi sat back, opened the contract, and She Yun quickly handed him the pen. Old Shi put his name on the contract and said calmly, "As you can see, there are plenty of heirs in the Shi family. Lin Haoran is not the only son."

Shi Yiyuan immediately retorted, "Linxian is not competent. His thoughts and methods are not as good as Haoran's. Moreover, if you give up on Haoran like this, all the careful cultivation for so long will be in vain!"

Old Shi threw the contract at Shi Yiyuan across the table, "You see for yourself. Is Qin Yunhu's signature easy to get? Six years ago, if you hadn't obstructed, Lin Haoran would have been kicked out of the board by Lin Xian. Six years ago, he couldn't handle things well, and now, without your support as a couple, Lin Haoran, who has broken a leg, would be nothing!"

Shi Yiyuan gritted her teeth, quite unwilling. "Linxian has a twisted mind. He's my child, you haven't even seen him a few times, you don't understand him at all!"

"Shut up!" Old Shi suddenly slapped the table, angrily staring at Shi Yiyuan. "You have never disappointed me since you were a child. Now you don't even know how to write the word 'cut loss'?"

"Dad!"

Shi Yiyuan wanted to argue, but Old Shi didn't want to listen.

"If Lin Haoran had half the determination you had when you were a child, I wouldn't need to reevaluate him now." Old Shi waved his hand and ushered Shi Yiyuan out.

Shi Yiyuan had nothing to say. Lin Haoran's behavior this time was indeed outrageous. For a trivial personal matter that couldn't be put on the table, he drowned his sorrows in alcohol, ignored the head of the Qin family, and disappointed Old Shi. Moreover, unexpectedly, Lin Xian resolved the matter... Shi Yiyuan asked herself, if it weren't for Lin Haoran being her son, she wouldn't have spoken up for him in this matter.

No sense of importance, no understanding of gratitude, unfit for responsibilities.

Sighing heavily, Shi Yiyuan went to Lin Haoran's room. Pushing the door, she saw him already lying on the bed, still fully dressed. He must be heavily intoxicated; even in his dreams, he was calling Nie Jia's name.

"Miss, it's already late. You should rest early." The housekeeper covered Lin Haoran with a blanket and turned to advise Shi Yiyuan.

The atmosphere in the house was not good today, and the housekeeper didn't dare to say more. Shi Yiyuan leaned against the door frame, looking at the sleeping Lin Haoran, her eyes obscure, pondering something.

The next day, Shi Yiyuan went downstairs to the dining room for breakfast. As soon as she entered, she saw Old Shi holding Lulu on his lap, feeding her breakfast. Lin Xian sat on the side, smiling, silently having breakfast, occasionally chatting with Old Shi.

Shi Yiyuan couldn't quite understand her father. Old Shi had never been fond of children throughout his life. Even when Lin Haoran was a child, he had never received such affection as Lulu was getting now. It was only after Lin Haoran made a name for himself that Old Shi started caring for his grandson.

"Mom, have breakfast." Lin Xian saw Shi Yiyuan come in and pushed the plate in her direction.

Lulu glanced at Shi Yiyuan for a while. In her jet-black, round eyes, there was a sharp and steady gaze that didn't match her age. She remained silent and then said to Old Shi, "Great-great-grandfather, I want that."

Shi Yiyuan sat down, and Old Shi, without lifting his head, asked, "Where's Haoran?"

"He's still asleep from the hangover," Shi Yiyuan replied expressionlessly.

Lin Xian was quite tactful. After Shi Yiyuan arrived, he quickly ate a few bites and stood up, saying he would take Lulu to visit the old lady.

After the two left, Shi Yiyuan mechanically chewed on half a stick of fried dough sticks, "Dad, you seem to like Lulu a lot?"

Old Shi's life had been devoid of deep affection. He was not suddenly fond of children in his old age. The one he loved the most was Shi Yiyuan, a daughter with decisive actions and a temperament similar to his own, always making Old Shi proud. Unfortunately, she married to Xia City midway. If she had married an ordinary person, it would have been fine, but she had to marry the wealthy man of Xia City. As a result, Old Shi had been sitting in this position for more than twenty years.

He didn't say those abstract things. He just smiled and said, "Lulu is a lot like you when you were young."

"Nothing like him." Shi Yiyuan frowned displeasedly. She didn't like her eldest son and looked down on her daughter-in-law. Naturally, she had no good feelings towards Lulu either.

"Lulu doesn't like you. She hasn't spoken to you since last night. She treats you as if she hasn't seen you. She's only five years old, but she's so independent and does things her own way. Just like you were when you were a child," Shi Lao chuckled. "Since you realize it, don't continue to disappoint me with Lin Haoran. I carefully nurtured you, and you married to Xia City. Now, you are nurturing Lin Haoran with such dedication, and he is also willing to sacrifice the family business for love. Do I, Shi Yiming, need to beg you to be my heir?"

Shi Yiyuan was immediately rendered speechless and reluctantly closed her mouth.

Lin Xian led Lulu to the old lady's courtyard. Nie Jia and Shi Chen had also come early today. Lin Xian saw Ye Ying guarding the door and knew the two had arrived, so he sensibly waited outside.

The old lady's health was deteriorating, and she would often wake up only to fall asleep again shortly after. Shi Chen and Nie Jia chatted with her until she fell asleep again before leaving.

"Aunt, Mr. Nie," Lin Xian greeted when he saw Shi Chen coming out.

Shi Chen furrowed his brows slightly. They were still at the Shi family's old residence, and he didn't want to engage with Lin Xian. With a light press of his hand, he led Nie Jia away.

"Goodbye, Uncle," Lulu called crisply at the backs of the two.

Nie Jia turned around and smiled at Lulu.

"Judging by Lin Xian's reaction, it seems like he knows who you are," Nie Jia said once they were in the car.

Ye Ying drove to the film set, and Nie Jia was going to visit the set today to see Han Manny's scenes. Shi Chen gently held Nie Jia's hand and softly rubbed his fingertips, saying, "He has some usefulness, saving you from being bothered by Lin Haoran again."

"What if he tells Shi Lao?" Nie Jia asked.

Shi Chen smiled, "I asked him if he wanted status or money, and he said he wanted money."

When they arrived at the set, Nie Jia went to find Han Manny, and Shi Chen, with nothing else to do, casually picked up Shen Siyu's male lead script to browse. This was the first time he had seen it after Nie Jia had revised the script, and it made him feel somewhat uncomfortable.

After wandering around the set for a while, Ye Ying was called over by Shi Chen to order drinks for everyone, with each person receiving a cup, courtesy of Mr. Nie. In the past half month, pictures of Nie Jia and Shi Chen had flooded the internet, and there were even quite a few fan comics. Despite not knowing Shi Chen's full name, the number of their shipper fans was increasing.

Many actors and crew members were excitedly discussing taking photos not far from Shi Chen. His naturally exuded aura and intimidation were far beyond what could be captured in candid shots. Despite the lack of paparazzi revealing his identity, just a glance from afar allowed one to discern his extraordinary presence.

His social status and position were undoubtedly higher than Mr. Nie's.

Shi Chen took Shen Siyu's script and, as if throwing a dart, tossed it out like a flywheel. His expression turned somewhat serious.

In mid-air, Ye Ying caught the script and handed it to Shen Siyu. She then smiled apologetically, "Sorry, our boss took your things without thinking."

"No problem," Shen Siyu stammered, slightly flustered, and left.

Ye Ying's smile disappeared as she returned to Shi Chen's side. "This person looks even more like Mr. Nie than in the photos. If you didn't know better, you'd think they were real brothers."

"Does he?" Shi Chen responded indifferently.

"Yes, with a pair of light golden-colored contact lenses, he could easily pass as Mr. Nie." Ye Ying said convincingly.

"Like hell," Shi Chen stood up to find Nie Jia.

Ye Ying rolled her eyes. "Are you scolding him or Mr. Nie?"

Nie Jia brought Shi Chen to the set, causing quite a stir. The shooting progress was delayed. Nie Jia didn't stay long, discussing the scenes with Han Manny before quietly leaving the set with Shi Chen.

Fans snapped pictures of them hand in hand, and the high-definition images of Nie Jia and Shi Chen visiting the set went viral again.

Lin Haoran, who had been closely monitoring Nie Jia's every move, looked at the photos on his phone. Shi Chen embraced Nie Jia's waist, and they exchanged a gaze. The two seemed to be whispering sweet words to each other, and Nie Jia's ears turned red. The look in his eyes towards Shi Chen was full of uncontrollable affection, passionate and straightforward, wholeheartedly in love with the person in front of him.

The comment section was flooded with words like perfect match, super sweet, and dog food. Lin Haoran, seeing this, felt pain in his heart. Without even eating lunch, he slammed the door and left.
