"Nie Jia waved his hand, 'No need to move. Why should we relocate? The next time he comes, I'll deal with him. Let's see how tough his luck is.'
Shi Chen, smiling, led Nie Jia inside, closing the door with a click. As soon as they entered, Nie Jia's phone rang incessantly. Shi Chen tied an apron and headed to the kitchen, while Nie Jia answered the call. A voice, old and filled with indignation, immediately questioned from the other end.
'I don't care who you are. What do you want? Tell me, do you have concrete evidence?'
The voice was loud, and Nie Jia kept his tone steady. Even Shi Chen, not far away, could hear.
'Of course, I do.' Nie Jia walked over to Shi Chen, leaning on him just like before, watching him cook with the same tender expression as always.
There was a moment of silence from the other end. Then, the anger in the voice slightly subsided, becoming more composed and steady. 'I will immediately send someone to find you. And you, I will fulfill all your demands. You will be generously rewarded for your discretion.'
'I don't need a reward. I just hope you can temporarily hold off. Now is not the time,' Nie Jia said indifferently.
'Impossible.' The voice on the phone became more assertive.
Nie Jia's expression changed slightly, displeasure evident. 'Mrs. Wen, I hope you understand one thing. I'm not asking for your favor; I'm informing you. If you insist on disturbing me, causing trouble for me, don't blame me for not being polite. Now take the existing evidence and report the case. Use all the power of the Wen family. See if you can bring down Shi Yiyuan without my help.'
There was a heavy sigh on the other end after a moment of quiet contemplation. 'How long?'
'Not more than a year,' Nie Jia replied impassively.
'No!' Mrs. Wen immediately objected, 'That's too long!'
'For more than twenty years, you were oblivious. Now, one year is too long for you?' Nie Jia sneered, 'Handle it yourself.'
Without waiting for Mrs. Wen to respond, Nie Jia hung up the phone. Who dared to show such attitude to this old lady? Immediately, others in the Wen family couldn't sit still.
'This kid is too arrogant!' Wen Qinglin slammed his hand on the sofa arm.
Ye Ying stood behind Mrs. Wen, glanced coldly at Wen Qinglin, and showed a hint of disdain.
'He's arrogant with reason.' Wen Yuanfeng, Mrs. Wen's younger son, interrupted his cousin, focusing his gaze calmly on Ye Ying. He smiled and said, 'Miss Ye, please convey to Mr. Nie, as long as he has sufficient evidence, we can wait as long as necessary.'
Ye Ying smiled and looked at the insightful young mayor. 'Then I'll take my leave.'
After Ye Ying left, the Wen family in the living room started buzzing with discussions. Mrs. Wen's face was dark, sitting silently on the sofa.
'That kid is just a businessman. His only reliance is Lin Haoran. Why do you endure this, Grandma? Whatever he has in his hand, I'll make him spit it out!' Wen Qinglin said.
'Rubbish.' Mrs. Wen adjusted her breath and looked displeasedly at Wen Qinglin.
Wen Qinglin immediately backed off, afraid to speak again.
'The woman who came just now has quite a background. To make her run such errands, Nie Jia and Shi Chen's relationship is not that simple.' Wen Yuanfeng calmly said, 'Once offending, Nie Jia is hard to handle. Mom, since Nie Jia is on Shi Chen's side, he certainly doesn't want the Shi family to prosper. Let's wait as he suggested. We can't deceive ourselves. The Wen family hasn't offended him, and neither has the Shi family. He has no motive.'
Mrs. Wen fell into silence, looking at her slightly worn jade ring on her ring finger. Her eyes reddened slightly.
'Then, let's wait.'
-----------------------
In the apartment, Shi Chen was somewhat surprised. He smiled and ruffled Nie Jia's head, asking, 'Why isn't Ye Ying here? So, you sent her to do your bidding. Why did you approach Mrs. Wen?'
'When dealing with a snake, you have to hit its seven-inch spot.' Nie Jia put his phone aside, hugged Shi Chen's waist, and snuggled against him affectionately.
Shi Chen allowed him to embrace, dragging him around the kitchen. 'Where is Shi Yiyuan's seven-inch spot?'
Thinking for a moment, Shi Chen could only think of Lin Haoran, but in reality, Lin Haoran was not that qualified.
His sister, Shi Yiyuan, was like his father. Children were just tools for them. If they pleased them, they would be cherished. If not, they would be abandoned swiftly. For example, Lin Xian and even Shi Chen himself.
'Do you know that Shi Yiyuan killed someone when she was young? Can you guess who she killed?' Nie Jia said.
'Mrs. Wen's daughter?' Shi Chen asked in surprise.
Shi Chen knew little about the trivial matters of the Shi family. He wasn't interested, and naturally, no one bothered him with these small matters. However, the Wen family was influential in politics, and more than twenty years ago, Mrs. Wen had mentioned her daughter's accidental death.
If it was true that Shi Yiyuan killed Wen Qing, it was no wonder Mrs. Wen was anxious to confirm by calling Nie Jia.
But just as Shi Chen finished guessing, Nie Jia mysteriously shook his head, denying it.
'Wen Qing indeed died of illness, and over twenty years ago, although the Wen family was not as powerful as now, the Shi family was the same. Would Shi Yiyuan dare to kill Wen Qing?' Nie Jia jumped onto Shi Chen's back, lay there, and casually chewed on a strand of carrot.
Just as Shi Chen was about to speak, there was suddenly a loud bang from outside. Anxiously, Ye Ying rushed in, looking somewhat embarrassed as she saw the two in the kitchen. 'It seems like the door lock has been smashed...'
'Ling Haoran did it. It's fine. Just get someone to change the lock.' Nie Jia jumped down and said.
Ye Ying sighed, not daring to look at Shi Chen's expression, and quickly slipped out to arrange for the lock replacement.
Speaking of Lin Haoran, after Nie Jia knocked him out in the elevator, he was sent to the hospital by the bodyguards. His broken arm hadn't healed yet, and his nose bridge was broken again. Fortunately, he woke up quickly, and the bodyguards didn't tell Shi Yiyuan about this matter."
He was still worried about Nie Jia. If Shi Yiyuan found out that Nie Jia had sent him to the hospital again, she might storm in with a gun and directly deal with Nie Jia.
Information about Nie Jia and Shi Chen continued to flood the internet. Lin Haoran's phone also rang non-stop for twenty-four hours. Most calls were from the second-generation elites in Qin City, mocking him for wearing the green hat on his head. Unintentionally triggering Lin Haoran's anger, the phone was smashed again.
Being driven out by Nie Jia like this, without a chance to have a proper conversation, Lin Haoran was naturally resentful. Not to mention breaking in again, this time he couldn't even enter the lobby. He was stopped outside by a young man in a black short-sleeved shirt.
"Where I appear is within Mr. Nie's line of sight. Don't think of getting closer to him." Ten Li warned with a malicious tone, but his baby-faced appearance seemed young and soft, giving off a cute pretense of maturity.
Although they were ready to fight, not a single hair on the baby-faced guy was touched. Yet, all the bodyguards he brought along were lying flat.
Lin Haoran, let alone taking Nie Jia away, was now just daydreaming about getting close. Even looking at him was difficult. No matter what methods he used, how many people he brought, or how much trouble he caused for Shi Chen's company, it was all in vain.
He was willing but powerless. Glancing anywhere, all he saw were the figures of Nie Jia and Shi Chen together. Holding hands, kissing affectionately, appearing on the screen, and in his dreams.
Qin Huai had recovered from his concussion, and his neck moved freely again. When he and Fei Ying came to find Lin Haoran, it was already late at night. Not that they intentionally chose this time to disturb his sleep, but for half a month, Lin Haoran had disappeared without a trace. He hadn't contacted his friends once during this period. It took a lot of effort to find out the location of Lin Haoran's apartment, and that's how they ended up knocking on his door in the middle of the night.
As the door opened, the room was pitch black. Soon, a strong smell of alcohol hit them.
"Haoran?" Fei Ying fumbled for the light without finding it and had to blindly navigate through a sea of bottles on the floor.
Qin Huai followed behind Fei Ying, walking into the living room, finally discovering Lin Haoran sitting on a wicker chair on the balcony, drinking. Fei Ying tripped on a bottle on the floor and was about to fall when Qin Huai pulled her up just in time.
"Lin Haoran, what are you doing?" Qin Huai walked over, his gaze piercing like a knife, stabbing at Lin Haoran.
Lin Haoran didn't react at all, still holding the bottle, pouring it into his mouth. A slap from Qin Huai sent him flying, the bottle cracking on the floor, splashing a pool of alcohol.
"Hey, don't fight!" Fei Ying exclaimed, jumping around, looking for a light. Finally, she found the switch for a floor lamp and turned it on, revealing the mess in the room.
Empty bottles littered the floor, red and white alike. Lin Haoran, barefoot with a scruffy beard, leaned against the wicker chair. His eyes, uncomfortable with the sudden light, squinted but refused to close, still looking through the window at the distant apartment.
"Haoran, what are you looking at?" Fei Ying waved her hand in front of his eyes.
Lin Haoran spoke with a hoarse voice, "His light is still on. He hasn't slept yet. He always stays up late recently before sleeping. The company must be busy."
Fei Ying choked, well aware of whom Lin Haoran was referring to.
Qin Huai sneered, "How do you know he's busy with company matters? Maybe he's having a passionate affair with your uncle in bed!"
Lin Haoran's gaze suddenly turned red, staring at Qin Huai. "Shut up."
"For Nie Jia, you even dared to release my dad's pigeons for nothing. That's not all; do you know how many people from the Shi family are keeping an eye on your position now? You're not like us; you don't have the Shi surname, do you know that?" Qin Huai roared in anger.
"I love him..." Lin Haoran suddenly pressed his forehead, the days of despair and suppression making him sound tearful even now, "I love him. I regret... I never knew I loved him so much..."
Qin Huai's eyebrows twitched.
Fei Ying awkwardly said, "What have you done so early?"
