"Make sure no one enters the boss's office, and if there's any issue, don't bother the vice president, just come to me," the producer instructed the president's secretary nervously before leaving, beads of cold sweat forming. The vice president was a relative of Lin Haoran, and if Lin Haoran found out that someone had been brought into the company by the boss, it would be a direct insult to him.
The producer sighed. Nie Jia, however, didn't think too much about it. When Shi Chen came to the company today, the news reached Lin Haoran's ears in less than a minute. Sejia Media had long been Lin Haoran's domain. Moreover, Nie Jia had no intention of hiding anything.
As Nie Jia scrutinized the cast list, she suddenly paused after flipping a page, looking at a person's profile and softly asked, "Do you think this person looks a lot like me?"
Shi Chen, who had set the script aside, turned his head to look. The profile displayed an exceptionally handsome young man, bearing a resemblance of about four or five points to Nie Jia. However, he lacked Nie Jia's intimidating and indifferent demeanor, appearing somewhat gentle. If his deep black eyes were as dazzling as Nie Jia's, the resemblance might reach seven or eight points.
Shi Chen, however, only glanced briefly and replied without interest, "Doesn't look like you at all."
Nie Jia smiled and planted a kiss on his lips.
This was Shen Siyu, the one Lin Haoran had used as a substitute after the original owner's death. Currently, he was a newcomer at Sejia Media, with no notable works or reputation. Although his acting skills at this moment were not outstanding, they were enough to compete with second-tier actors. In the future, with Lin Haoran opening up all resources for him and his strikingly similar face to Nie Jia, he would surely rise to prominence.
Nie Jia had no animosity towards Shen Siyu; after all, his existence had nothing to do with her.
Shen Siyu possessed both looks and acting skills and was a signed artist of their company. Nie Jia decisively chose him as the male lead for the movie, informing the producer directly without the need for an audition. Shen Siyu was to prepare well.
After signing a few more documents, Nie Jia tidied up behind her desk, preparing to modify the script. Although the original writer had already completed it, allowing the director to storyboard, Nie Jia, after reading it once, had some different ideas. Fixing the illogical parts was secondary; she wanted to change the story structure.
Shi Chen didn't disturb her, lost in thought on the sofa. After reviewing the script's setting, he understood the current predicament of Sejia Media – they didn't have enough funds to shoot. The pre-investment power was in Lin Haoran's hands, and as long as he held onto it, the producer couldn't attract other investments. Moreover, with Nie Jia having an imminent gambling agreement, the shares couldn't be touched. Despite being in such a tight spot, Nie Jia didn't say a word and continued to endure.
Shi Chen glanced up at Nie Jia, who was quietly dealing with the script flaws behind her desk. The heavy rain outside blurred the light behind him, giving him a seriously adorable appearance.
"Jia Jia, let's go home," Shi Chen suggested.
The rain was pouring heavily. Lin Haoran was originally trapped in Shi Chen's residence lobby without his phone. Fortunately, Fei Ying found him and drove him to Qin Huai's house.
Qin Huai and Fei Ying were locals in Qin City, having known Lin Haoran for a short time despite growing up in Xia City. However, due to their similar identities as heirs to prestigious families, they quickly became familiar with each other.
In a private room at the clubhouse, Nie Jia had pinned Qin Huai to the ground, causing him to faint. When he woke up, not only did he suffer a mild concussion, but his neck was also slightly twisted. He now lay on the bed wearing a neck brace, yelling at Lin Haoran, "What the hell is going on? Don't move Nie Jia for me, you can endure this, getting me beaten like this?"
"Haoran said Nie Jia ran away with someone," Fei Ying added.
Lin Haoran sat by the window without saying a word, his expression darker than the current weather.
Qin Huai was taken aback. "Ran away with whom?"
"With his uncle," Fei Ying said.
Qin Huai became interested. "You have an uncle too? Does Shi Lao have a son? Why haven't I heard about it?"
"I haven't heard about it either," Fei Ying muttered, whispering to him, "It probably doesn't matter, or else the Shi family would have a share too."
After a moment of silence, Qin Huai shouted to Lin Haoran, "Haoran, your lover has taken refuge with your uncle, openly humiliating you by wearing the green hat. Your uncle dares to take him in. Your grandfather is now preparing to abdicate, saying your uncle has no other thoughts? Be careful not to be played by yourself."
"What should I do to bring Nie Jia back?" Lin Haoran gritted his teeth, clenching his fists.
"People have already cuckolded you, and you're still thinking about him?" Qin Huai's neck hurt, and he felt agitated by the stimulation.
After hearing Lin Haoran's words, Fei Ying, however, seemed a bit stunned and contemplative. After a long time, he spoke, "Why do I feel something's not right? Haoran, his father and my grandfather are not people you can influence with a few words. For the Qin family and the Fei family to move, until now, there's no news about who we should catch. Is Nie Jia with your uncle now?"
"He's just a businessman. He has two small companies in France, nothing to be wary of. My grandfather doesn't like him either," Lin Haoran said.
"So, just a small businessman has managed to keep Nie Jia protected for so long that neither our Qin family nor the Fei family can bring him over?" Qin Huai's face turned cold as he shouted, "Steward, steward!"
Soon, footsteps approached, and an older woman in an exquisite uniform entered, pushing the door. "Young Master, is there anything uncomfortable for you?"
"I'm asking you, did my dad instruct to find someone last night? Any news?" Qin Huai inquired.
The steward shook her head, adhering to protocol, "No, there is still no news, and the person hasn't returned yet."
The room immediately fell silent. Just as Qin Huai was about to say something, the steward suddenly spoke, "Young Master Lin, there's a Mr. She Yun downstairs looking for you, saying it's an order from Master Shi."
Lin Haoran frowned. Although he wasn't in a good mood and had things to discuss with his friends, since his grandfather was looking for him, he couldn't afford to delay.
"Contact me by phone," Lin Haoran said as he got up and left.
The steward didn't follow him downstairs but smiled at Fei Ying, saying, "Young Master Fei, your grandfather, Mr. Fei, also called just now, asking you to go back."
"Huh?" Fei Ying scratched his head, confused. Unfortunately, Qin Huai's steward wouldn't lie, so he had no choice but to follow Lin Haoran and leave.
After the two left, the steward put away her smile, her expression turning serious as she addressed Qin Huai on the bed, "Young Master, for the sake of your personal safety, it's better not to mention the topic we just discussed in the future. Especially the unknown son of Master Shi, don't harbor any thoughts of investigation. It's better not to get too close to the heir of the Shi family in the future."
"What do you mean?" Qin Huai furrowed his brow.
"The old master is rushing to Qin City; you will know later," the steward said no more and left, closing the door behind her.
"Grandpa is coming too?!" Qin Huai was startled, but the steward had already left, leaving behind a room filled with silence and unease.
Qin Huai faintly felt that things seemed to be getting more and more unusual. What could make his grandfather so alarmed?
The heavy rain hadn't stopped by evening, though the intensity had lessened a bit. Nie Jia and Shi Chen returned home after having dinner outside. The two sat together and chatted. Shi Chen didn't actively inquire about Nie Jia's financial difficulties, just left a hint. Before Nie Jia really encountered difficulties, maybe he could solve them on his own. Now, reaching out for help might hurt his self-esteem.
At around ten o'clock, Ye Ying received a call and went out.
Nie Jia had an early start today, and after spending some time with Shi Chen, he felt tired. Soon, he was carried into the bedroom by Shi Chen.
At twelve-thirty, in the pouring rain outside, accompanied by thunder and lightning, Ye Ying returned with a man. The man had a slight limp in his left foot and looked a bit nervous walking in with Ye Ying.
Ye Ying casually said, "Have a seat."
Lin Xian nodded, but looking around, he didn't know where to sit exactly.
Accustomed to entering with Shi Chen without waiting for a response inside, Ye Ying didn't consider the presence of Nie Jia this time. As she pushed the door, the sound of pouring water greeted her. Sensing a weak moan from the water, she raised her head and saw a handprint on the glass wall of the bathroom.
The handprint seemed unable to support itself, forming a limp fist against the wall, then slowly sliding down, accompanied by clearer, gentle gasps.
Ye Ying held her breath, silently retreated, and closed the door without making a sound. It was as if she had never entered, putting on a polite smile as she turned to Lin Xian, "The boss is a bit busy; please wait for a moment."
Lin Xian, unaware of the situation, stood still, feeling anxious.
Outside, the rain was heavy. Both of them got wet returning from the airport. Ye Ying invited him to sit and went to make a cup of hot tea to warm him up.
Accepting it cautiously, Lin Xian dared not even breathe.
Ye Ying said, "Don't be nervous; the boss won't bite."
Not be nervous? Lin Xian bitterly smiled. He was the eldest son of a prominent family in Xia City but received little attention from his parents. Even his leg was broken by his younger brother without any justice. Clearly the eldest son of the wealthiest family, he lived a more restrained and frustrated life than most. His uncle, Shi Chen, whom he hadn't met many times, suddenly called him. How could he not be nervous!
