KK couldn't confirm Shi Chen's identity in this life, so he used the term "guess" when mentioning it. However, as soon as his name was mentioned, Nie Jia immediately became certain.
Nie Jia, in retrospect, realized his identity in this life and couldn't help but feel as if he had been placed on a vast grassland by Shi Chen.
"It's crucial to find him quickly. I don't know if Shi Chen remembers anything in this life. If he does, it's manageable; if not, things will get complicated."
Rarely, Nie Jia showed a hint of a non-hostile smile and asked, "Where is he now?"
KK replied, "He's in Shi Lao's residence, and the situation is a bit unfavorable."
Late at night, Shi Family's old residence looked like a haunted castle in the moonlight, shrouded in a solemn and somewhat eerie atmosphere. The entire row of villas was devoid of any lights, with only a dim bedside lamp in Shi Lao's bedroom. The room remained dark, revealing an old man, eyes closed, praying while holding a Bible.
A Saint Bernard lay on the carpet beside the bed, and as the night deepened, even the dog yawned in response to Shi Lao's prayers.
In the dimly lit area, there were two figures, a man and a woman. The man sat on the edge of the sofa, exuding pride but maintaining a respectful posture. He gazed at the praying Shi Lao with a blank expression. The woman stood completely in the shadow behind him, her appearance unclear, yet her presence was palpable, as if standing on the edge of a knife, clenching her fists and enduring something with great effort.
The Saint Bernard frequently lifted its head, clearly on alert.
After a while, Shi Lao finished his prayers, put down the Bible, turned to the man on the sofa, and said, "Do you know why I called you back?"
"I do." The low, fearless voice sounded colder than the water at night.
"His people are detained by the local government. If you can help, don't just stand there. Help him." Shi Lao said.
Shi Chen remained expressionless, lowering his gaze to the dog lying down. The Saint Bernard stretched and stood up, shaking its body before adopting another posture. Some loose fur fell on Shi Chen's suit pants. He lowered his head to inspect the fur on his leg, his gaze sharp as a knife.
The woman standing behind him became even more intense, glaring at the dog, almost wishing to pull out a gun and shoot the creature.
"I won't trouble him; I'm helping him." Shi Chen said indifferently.
As soon as he finished speaking, a water-filled glass suddenly smashed towards him. Shi Chen dodged it narrowly, but his face got splashed with some water. The woman behind him caught the glass, not caring about the hot water on her hand, and threw it aside. She then handed him a handkerchief.
The sound of the shattered glass startled the Saint Bernard, which jumped onto the bed, making whimpering sounds. The woman's breathing became rapid, unable to suppress her impulse to do something, standing in the shadow with full intensity.
Shi Chen wiped the water off his ear and raised his hand to signal her to stop. She suppressed her impulse and retreated into the shadow.
Unaware that his beloved dog had almost met its end, Shi Lao pounded the bed in anger, scolding, "He's your nephew!"
"I know. If he has real difficulties, he will speak for himself. No need for you to pass the message." Shi Chen said calmly, standing up, expressionless, buttoning his suit.
"If you have no other business, I'll leave." With that, he lifted his foot to depart, and the woman hurriedly followed, closing the door behind her, locking in Shi Lao's subsequent angry outbursts.
Shi Lao, oblivious to the danger his beloved pet had just faced, pounded the bed and shouted in frustration, "Useless!"
After leaving Shi Lao's bedroom, the female secretary no longer concealed her anxiety and anger. "The nearest hospital is a bit far. Take your medicine first." She handed him a pill from a bottle.
Shi Chen took the medicine, chewed it, and swallowed. He walked out of the old residence with quick steps. His pace increased, and his breathing became faster, whether out of anger or something else.
The secretary, feeling the urgency, said, "I'll drive you."
As she spoke, a screeching brake sound came from across the street. A black sports car inserted itself into the oncoming traffic, not only speeding recklessly but also driving backward!
The secretary's pupils widened as she saw the car, readying herself for the unexpected. The car, still in reverse, came crashing through the main gate of the old residence. It was hard to tell who the reckless driver was. Upon closer inspection, the car was actually driving backward!
The secretary's eyes widened, watching as the sports car forcefully opened the main gate and rushed toward them. Suddenly on high alert, she reached for her waist.
Shi Chen stood still, gazing at the car's taillights with no expression.
The screeching sound of brakes echoed, and the car stopped in front of them. After the door opened, a breathless young man hurriedly descended. Even in the dim light, his stunning appearance was enough to captivate anyone. However, the secretary remained unmoved. Seeing him, she immediately aimed her gun at him, but Shi Chen casually raised his hand, once again stopping her, allowing the young man to approach.
Nie Jia didn't notice there was someone beside Shi Chen. His eyes were full of panic as he ran towards Shi Chen, reaching out to loosen his collar. Upon seeing a shocking red mark, his beautiful eyes revealed a hint of distress and a subtle hint of ruthlessness.
"Why is it so severe?" Despite KK repeatedly mentioning that Shi Chen's allergic reaction to dog hair was not life-threatening, Nie Jia couldn't help but feel distressed, wanting to demand an explanation.
The door opened behind them, likely the butler checking the commotion outside.
Shi Chen tilted his head slightly, using his body to shield Nie Jia's face and pushed him into the car.
The secretary quickly got into the driver's seat, and they left the old residence.
"Don't come here in the future; it's dangerous." Shi Chen advised Nie Jia with his head bowed.
Nie Jia, holding his hand, treated the allergic reaction, softly acknowledged.
"What's your name?" Shi Chen asked.
The secretary looked at the rearview mirror with a puzzled expression, not quite understanding the current situation. Every time the boss returned to the old residence, he would inevitably provoke Shi Lao and end up with a stomach full of anger. Now, surprisingly, he had the mood to engage in a conversation with a randomly appearing stranger. Moreover, even without Shi Lao's involvement, the boss had never seen him so affectionate before. It was quite unusual.
"Still uncomfortable?" Instead of answering directly, Nie Jia rubbed Shi Chen's hand back and forth, repeatedly inquiring with concern.
Only then did Shi Chen feel that there seemed to be no discomfort on his body anymore. Nie Jia lifted his collar to take a look, finally breathed a sigh of relief, and admonished, "Your allergic reaction is so severe. Be careful not to come into contact with allergens in the future."
Shi Chen, looking into Nie Jia's eyes up close, found them filled with tenderness and affection, delivering a punch to his heart. He softly replied, "Okay."
The secretary, hearing this, smiled wryly. Shi Lao was aware of his son's allergy to dog hair, but whether he liked dogs or not remained unclear. Whenever the boss was called back, the dog was always brought along. If they wanted the boss to stay away from the allergen completely, the old thing had to die.
The secretary thought rebelliously in her mind.
Listening to the two conversing in low voices, the secretary followed their instructions, drove to Shi Chen's temporary apartment, and, when getting out of the car, she was about to stop Nie Jia for a couple of questions. However, she saw the boss holding someone's hand, going directly into the elevator.
She was momentarily dazed, unable to catch up. After a while, she made a call on the spot, "No need to wait at the hospital. The boss's allergic reaction has subsided. Also, check on someone for me—Nie Jia, do it right away."
No one had a comfortable evening. Nie Jia had just crossed over, adapting to his identity in this life. Shi Chen had suppressed his anger at the old residence, and Lin Haoran was still in the hospital undergoing surgery. Lin's mother, upon learning that her son had been beaten, especially by a brat who only cared about money, was both angry and anxious, feeling her heart tearing apart.
And Sejia Media was indeed as Nie Jia had said—projects of all sizes were being withdrawn one after another, leaving the employees in chaos. They couldn't reach the boss on the phone and were at a loss.
What was the boss doing? The boss was in love.
As they entered the door, Nie Jia couldn't help but hug Shi Chen from behind, softly saying, "I miss you."
"I miss you too." Shi Chen said, but suddenly he froze. He didn't even know who this young man was; he hadn't seen him before. Yet, he did miss him. When they hadn't met, he didn't know, but as soon as he saw him at the old residence, he felt a sudden urgency, as if this young man was the lost pieces of his soul and spirit, now returned.
Satisfied in his heart, Shi Chen felt a bit lost in the rhythm. He released Nie Jia's hand around his waist, wanting to say something, but as he turned around, he saw the flushed face of the young man looking at him with bright eyes, full of unrestrained affection, direct and intense, yet with a hint of shy embarrassment.
Nie Jia knew that in this life, Shi Chen had no memories, but the words "I miss you" just slipped out. It seemed that deep down, his yearning was probably no less than his own.
His ears turned red, and he threw himself into Shi Chen's arms, refusing to let go.
Looking at his appearance, Shi Chen's heart was already throbbing. He vaguely felt that there must be some kind of connection between them. Even though it was the first time they met, he couldn't keep the word "restraint" in his mind.
"Why are you in such a mess?" Nie Jia didn't let go, and Shi Chen allowed him to stick to him, directly taking him into the bathroom.
The dim light before didn't reveal the details, but now under the light, he could see that Nie Jia's clothes were stained with mottled wine marks.
"I hit a few people with a wine bottle." Finally, Nie Jia let go of his hand, letting Shi Chen take off his dirty clothes. He blinked, looking at him with some embarrassment, "Shall we wash together?"
Shi Chen unbuttoned his shirt abruptly.
