"Is Brother angry with me?" Not receiving any communication made Jun Changyue pause. He couldn't help but recall the words he said to his elder brother before leaving the palace, so resolute and indifferent. If his brother was upset, it was understandable.
Jun Changyue gritted his teeth tightly. If only he had known about Sikong Han's rebirth, he wouldn't have uttered those harsh words without any room for reconciliation.
The old eunuch had watched the two brothers grow up and deeply hoped they wouldn't become enemies one day. Seeing Jun Changyue's remorseful expression, he consoled, "Your Highness, don't worry. His Majesty's love for you is evident. It's just that these days, His Majesty is troubled by state affairs, unable to sleep at night, and is still busy. He just asked you to wait outside for a while."
Jun Changyue sneered inwardly. Troubled by state affairs? He'd believe even a beggar in Zhuolu City worrying about the safety of Yan Country. If it were his brother, it would be laughable. If he truly cared for Yan Country, why would he kill Sikong Han and then Qi Feng? He closed his eyes, suppressing the disdain in his heart, and said to the old eunuch, "I understand. I'll wait here then."
In the inner chamber, Nie Jia was still playing chess with Shi Chen. Since agreeing that the loser would remove their clothes, Nie Jia hadn't won once.
He had just bathed, wearing very little, and after losing two games, he was left with only a thin inner garment that barely covered anything. His long and slender legs were exposed under the candlelight, emitting a faint, jade-like sheen. Leaning against the bed, he furrowed his brows while staring at the unfavorable layout on the chessboard with a deep and serious expression.
Nie Jia had been determined to win, wanting to see his beloved undress in front of him, but ironically, he ended up being the one stripped bare.
"I lost." After a brief struggle, Nie Jia gave up and officially lost the third game. As he slowly peeled off the inner garment, he looked at Shi Chen with some resentment. "You were doing it on purpose earlier!"
Shi Chen removed the chessboard, his gaze fixed on Nie Jia kneeling on the bed. Perhaps due to embarrassment, Nie Jia's movements seemed slow as he removed the last piece of clothing, quickly hiding behind a curtain of dark hair strewn across the bed. Even so, Shi Chen only looked at his exquisitely delicate and round shoulders, his eyes turning red.
He stepped forward, lifting Nie Jia's dark locks to plant a gentle kiss on the nape of his neck, then tightly embraced him, softly teasing his earlobe, "Do you want me to cherish you?"
Shi Chen's deep voice near his ear made Nie Jia involuntarily shrink his neck, his breathing gradually heating up. With crimson cheeks, he closed his eyes, his slightly trembling voice almost inaudible as he whispered, "Yes."
