Nie Jia sensed someone pressing against his shoulders from behind, a force that stopped him in his tracks. Before he could gather his thoughts, he was immediately pushed against the wall by a man towering over him, his features shadowed but urgent, eyes both anxious and lost as they fixed on Nie Jia.
His breath quivered, staring into Nie Jia's eyes with an intensity that shook him to his core.
Initially vexed, Nie Jia was suddenly stunned upon meeting the man's gaze, even his heart skipped a beat.
Shi Yanshen.
In that moment, all of Nie Jia's inner apprehensions turned into a warm current, flooding him from head to toe. Though in his past life, Nie Jia had spoken carefreely to Shi Yanshen, deep down, he had always been anxious. He hadn't been as carefree as he claimed, fearing Shi Yanshen would mind his changes, worried that this time Shi Yanshen wouldn't come looking for him...
"Tell me who you are," Shi Si stared at the youth, a mistiness clouding his eyes, his heart clenching tightly.
The youth, masked and hooded in a hoodie, only revealing his eyes, but it was those starry orbs that captured Shi Si entirely.
In their gaze, Shi Si could almost feel the trembling of his soul.
Nie Jia's emotions couldn't be contained upon recognizing him; within a breath, tears filled his eyes. He reached out, embracing Shi Si without a sound, tears flowing, and though he wept silently, Shi Si could feel his neck growing damp.
The secretary, watching from a distance, was dumbfounded, at a loss.
"Don't cry," Shi Si's voice carried an extreme gentleness, one hand around the youth's waist, the other softly caressing the back of his head.
The advanced ward was scarcely populated, few people in the hallway. The two stood embraced in silence in the corridor until Nie Jia's phone rang from his pocket.
As if awakening from a dream, Nie Jia quickly wiped his tears, about to answer Xiao Liu's call when he noticed bloodstains on the floor. He furrowed his brow, "What happened to your foot?"
Ready to crouch and inspect, Nie Jia was pulled up by Shi Si. He whispered softly, "It's nothing, just a minor accident earlier, not serious."
The secretary rushed over upon seeing them separate, "Boss, your wound has reopened. I've informed Dr. Yan; you should get it stitched up again."
"I'll go with you." Nie Jia directly ended the call with Xiao Liu, worry evident as he held Shi Si's hand.
His innocent gesture pleased Shi Si, and they ended up holding hands. Nie Jia didn't intend to hold his hand; he wanted to discreetly use his powers to stop the bleeding, but Shi Si misunderstood and held onto his fingers, unwilling to let go.
KK covered their eyes, excitedly exclaiming, "Oh my, oh my!"
Nie Jia's ears reddened uncontrollably, but he didn't pull away, accompanying Shi Si downstairs to have his wound re-stitched.
Once Shi Si was alright, Nie Jia relaxed and made a call in the corridor.
"Non-bro, the production team has arranged everything. Where are you? Fang Fang and the others went to the hospital to pick you up, but they couldn't find you there," Xiao Liu hurriedly said.
"I know, I'll come by later myself," Nie Jia replied.
"Okay, we'll be waiting for you at the TV station."
After hanging up, Nie Jia checked the time, realizing it was late, almost lunchtime. He needed to hurry to the TV station.
"I need to go now. I'll find you later. Do you have a business card?" Nie Jia returned to the ward and asked Shi Si.
Shi Si, with dark eyes, instructed the secretary, "Pen." The secretary quickly handed a pen from his suit pocket, and Shi Si took Nie Jia's hand, writing his personal number in Nie Jia's palm. He chuckled, "I don't have a business card, but you can reach me on this number anytime."
Nie Jia smiled, about to pull his hand back but was caught by Shi Si's fingertips. With a gentle and shining gaze, Shi Si looked at Nie Jia, "You haven't told me your name."
"I'm Nie Fei." He smiled, asking, "And you?"
"Shi Si."
"Your wound is quite serious. Don't wander around casually, especially avoiding contact with water. I have to go now. I'll contact you later. Bye." Nie Jia knelt on the bed, leaned closer to Shi Si, pulled down his mask, and gave him a quick kiss on the face before dashing away.
Shi Si froze for a moment, then gently touched the kissed spot, his eyes wandering, seemingly reminiscing about the soft touch of the youth's lips.
"Boss, this kid approaching you... does he have an ulterior motive?" The secretary dared to remind him.
"Hmm?" Shi Si snapped out of his daze, returning to his usual indifferent demeanor, looking at the secretary. "How could he know who I am?"
The secretary was flabbergasted, "Boss, didn't you hear what he said? He's Nie Fei, one of the members from the male group where Shi Yan is. How could he not know who you are?" The secretary was astonished that his boss didn't know who Nie Fei was, considering Nie Fei's widespread fame lately, prominently featured across major portals.
"He's from D Group?" Shi Si's brows furrowed suddenly, as if reminded of something, his face turning extremely grim in an instant.
The secretary hurriedly fetched a tablet from his pocket, pulling up news about D Group and placing it in front of Shi Si.
Shi Si, maintaining his composure, glanced through the news, his eyes churning with hidden currents. "Where's Shi Yan now?"
"Shi Yan has been recording a variety show recently, should be at the TV station," the secretary replied.
Shi Si fell silent, engrossed in reading about the youth. The continuous barrage of insults and criticisms reflected in his eyes, making his expression even darker. The secretary, by Shi Si's side for years, had never seen him this enraged. Standing by, the secretary didn't dare utter a word.
Outside, after leaving the hospital, Nie Jia quickly hailed a cab toward the TV station. In the car, he saved Shi Si's number but hesitated to wipe off the pen marks on his palm.
When Nie Jia got out of the car, his team's assistants rushed over, encircling him and escorting him into the building.
Once the manager, Xiang Xianmin, settled things with the production crew, the news of Nie Fei's return was immediately released. This sparked immense excitement among Fei's fans; they were ready to scream their hearts out for their idol at the show.
Even though some fans of Shi Yan didn't particularly like Nie Fei, at this moment, they were also extremely excited. D Group was now on the winning side, and Nie Fei's return at this crucial time indicated a bit of conscience from him!
The assistants managed to fend
off the reporters and led Nie Jia inside the TV station gates, with only the program's cameraman documenting some behind-the-scenes footage. The program team was cunning; although they occasionally posted teasers on the official website, they had never started filming with this level of immediate attention. Nie Jia had numerous triggers, and this was his debut in variety shows—something the team had eagerly anticipated.
Leading the way to the rehearsal room, Xiao Liu fetched Nie Jia's backpack and asked, "Non-bro, why did you suddenly come? Your back injury hasn't healed yet."
"I earned my honor; I'll defend it myself." At this point, Nie Jia's previous sweetness and affection had receded like a tide. With hands in his pockets, he strode proudly toward the rehearsal room, his demeanor arrogant, his gaze icy, exuding an unbridled arrogance.
Seeing their boss's infinite charm up close, Fang Fang, among the assistants, almost exploded with a fangirl's excitement.
Pushing open the rehearsal room door, three handsome young men, all drenched in sweat from dancing, turned to look at the newcomer.
Among them, Shi Yan, with his red-dyed hair, snorted coldly, mocking, "What time is it? Why didn't you just come when the program starts recording tomorrow?"
