See , here's an example where it would be kind of useful to put a little 2-3 word blurb on the thumbnail like "Italian Prototype Assault Rifle!"
The name of the weapon isn't nearly enough to describe this cool wonky thing.

Very cool idea but the number of moving parts that required machining and fitting probably doomed it! Seeing that bayonet reminds me of the Turkish M1903/30 carbines fitted with the rotating short bayonets (see you video at https://www.forgottenweapons.com/turkish-model-1903-30-short-rifle-with-folding-bayonet/). They both have a concave surface on the top side of the bayo and a ribbed surface on the other. I am not the first to notice the similarities, but it sure makes me think the Turkish rebuild used Italian design for the rotating bayo

The woodworkers on these had to be absolute masters of their craft...

not the greatest idea. that said... for the 19TWENTIES... beats the heck out of a 5rd boltgun if that thing worked.

Hidden treasure out of Ethiopia! I'm the beneficiary of some of that stash, with a RockOla M1 carbine in my gun safe. I wonder if the development would have gone further had they been less advanced with their selection of the cartridge used. My cursory Googling reveals only THIS platform for the 7.35x32 round; perhaps if they had accepted a cartridge like the Carcano from the outset, they might have had a better chance of getting the rest of the design adopted.

The Terni is really cool. It would be interesting to know more about the commission’s conclusions that led to the development of the first assault rifle prototype.
I guess “the Italian’s copy no one, and no one copies the Italians”. Lol.
Also, I am disappointed that you didn’t use the new style thumbnail, though AI could hardly come up with something weirder looking than the Terni. Lololol.
