I Pioneered Scientific Magic - Chapter 201

Chapter 201: Guardians of the Seaport and the Star of Iyeta

The sudden storm didn't pose much hindrance; after three days of sailing, the group arrived smoothly at Iyeta Harbor.

At the landing spot, the city center was already bustling with a crowd packed tightly along the streets.

Under the continuous promotion of the "Magic Daily," Lynn's various deeds in Greenreel had spread throughout the harbor city, leaving an undeniable impact!

A month ago, upon Herlram's demise, many wizards from the Iyeta School felt as though the sky had collapsed.

A grand wizard was undoubtedly the pillar of a school's prosperity. Their fall often signified the decline of a school, a scenario not uncommon in the realm of wizards.

Combined with the impact of the Southern District tragedy, some believed the Iyeta School was doomed. It was assumed the council would dispatch another grand wizard to take over this crucial harbor city. This made many wizards contemplate changing allegiances, seeking better paths.

Yet, what took them by surprise was the unexpected turn of events at the magical symposium.

Lynn from the Misty Sea expounded his planetary theory, proposing the law of universal gravity. Not only did he earn the recognition of the legendary wizard, Harof, but he was also nominated for the Corona Medal, making waves throughout the Iyeta School!

Upon receiving this news, skepticism was the initial reaction.

The Corona Medal was the highest honor in the magical world. How could it be awarded to a third-circle wizard?

However, as more news came through the "Magic Weekly," including Lynn's pendulum experiment and the method to measure the planet's circumference, people realized it was all genuine!

"Is that the Corona Medal? It's an honor even Master Herlram couldn't attain…"

A witch's eyes were fixed on Lynn, noticing the dark golden medal on his chest emitting a dazzling magical glow.

The wizards from the Iyeta School were equally focused on the medal, filled with envy and pride. After all, it was the honor of the entire school!

Initially, when Lynn joined the Iyeta School and became a teaching professor, many had complaints. They believed Herlram had too easily allowed someone unknown to join, giving such high treatment, anticipating trouble.

But now, it seemed this was one of the wisest decisions Herlram had made.

"Do you think Lord Lynn might have become a grand wizard?" Someone in the crowd curiously asked.

Yesterday's "Magic Weekly" mentioned how, due to the infiltration of a group called the Apocalypse Sect, there was unrest in Greenreel, and Lynn had made outstanding contributions, almost single-handedly delaying the return of legendary wizards.

It didn't seem like something a third-circle wizard could accomplish.

"It should be impossible. I heard Professor Orlando say Lord Lynn might not even be twenty years old this year…" a wizard in black robes expressed disbelief.

A grand wizard under twenty was too astounding. But considering that Lynn had received the highest honor in the magical world, it seemed oddly plausible.

Simultaneously, as Lynn and others entered the city's central square, the surrounding crowd grew increasingly excited, shouting at the top of their lungs, "The Star of Iyeta's Magic!"

The clamor echoed ceaselessly throughout the city.

Lynn was unsure whether to feel happy or vexed. While it represented widespread acknowledgment, the previous person dubbed the "Magic Star" was still incarcerated in the "Magic Core."

Seizing the fervor of the moment, Phillip, Kevin, and others, having conferred with the formal wizards of the Iyeta School, promptly announced that henceforth, Lynn would assume the position of the school's dean.

Amidst the praise and cheers, Lynn officially took charge of the entire magical school, gaining control of the harbor city.

...

At dusk, after the celebratory banquet, Lynn ascended to the top of the academy tower, entering the office of the dean for the first time.

It was much simpler than he had imagined. Sparsely decorated, scattered parchment lay on the table, and there was a magical clock displaying time. It was hard to believe this was where a grand wizard spent their days.

A bit too austere…

Shaking his head, Lynn couldn't help but think that aside from the heartache caused in pursuit of resurrecting his daughter, Herlram, the founder and controller of the Iyeta School, was genuinely enlightened.

"Wind of the Elements!" Lynn raised his hand, causing a gust to sweep through the dusty office, clearing away the accumulated grime.

Outside the door, a knocking sound echoed.

"Come in!" Lynn spoke.

The tightly shut door was pushed open, revealing Orlando. Alongside him were two fairies carrying thick volumes of documents, flapping their wings strenuously to keep up with Orlando's pace.

"Professor Lynn…" Orlando habitually called out and then corrected himself, "No, I should address you as Your Excellency the Dean now."

"No need for formality." Lynn smiled, then inquired, "Have you organized the documents I asked for?"

"Everything's here." Orlando handed over several parchment sheets. The two fairies behind him also wheezed as they landed the heavy documents, panting heavily...

Lynn took the parchment and examined it. It listed the names of all wizards and apprentices trained by the Iyeta School over the past twenty years.

Excluding those who died due to illness, killed in conflicts, or departed from the school, there were approximately 1,100 wizard apprentices and 260 formal wizards remaining in the harbor city.

This was fewer than he had anticipated!

After Orlando explained, Lynn understood the connection to the tragedy in the Southern District a month ago. The losses suffered by the Iyeta School were indeed severe.

A total of 141 wizard apprentices and 15 formal wizards perished in that catastrophe. The deceased among the common folk exceeded 1,700…
