Moons Out 2025 is our annual night rifle match, presented this year by Q. Shooters must use active or passive IR (no white light), and we have ten stages over two nights. It is not just a rifle match held at night, but rather a match designed from the ground up to test nighttime skills.

I was planning to use a CETME-LV with its period PVS-4 copy night scope, but the scope stopped working on the first night of the match (arg!). Instead, I borrowed a rifle on the spot from another competitor - an AR build with a PEQ-15 laser aiming module. Despite being a true battlefield pickup sort of situation, I had a really good time and actually performed really well, taking 14th place overall out of 137 shooters!

This year was a resounding success, with some really outstanding courses of fire, a fantastic prize table for participants, and an unparalleled staff of range and safety officers who made it run like clockwork.

I am planning to try it again next year.

Forgotten Weapons

The drone was run by a friend of our match director, and I don't know any of the details on it - sorry. He only filmed in areas where he could stay safely clean of trees - that's why the trench stage footage isn't closer up or from the front of the shooter. And no, I had not noticed the rodent! :)

The best part of this video was you explaining the issues with using night vision, equipment limitations and general differences between shooting at night. I think this may be the best night vision video I have seen. You should consider doing a night vision video about the drone being used and its advantages and limitations. I assumed that you noticed the small rodent running next to the trench? How did the drone operator keep from running into the tree limbs at night?
