FN M249S Semiauto for Military Collectors (Ad-free)

In 2015, FN USA introduced a Military Collector product line - semiautomatic versions of their military contract small arms. These were the M4, M16, and - most interestingly - the M249 SAW. The SAW is a version of FN's Minimi light machine gun, developed in 1974 and adopted by the US in 1982. The semiauto version, designated M249S, is exactly the same as the military M249 but adapted to fire from a closed bolt in semiautomatic only, making it a non-NFA item like any other semiautomatic rifle. The semiauto conversion as done by essentially chopping off the back of the bolt carrier to act as a linear hammer, thus allowing the use of the original style of trigger mechanism. Since its introduction in 2016, FN USA has made more than 10,000 of these rifles, truly proving the depth of American collector interest in this sort of thing (much to the surprise of the Belgian FN administration...).

I am one of the nut jobs who bought one of these and I love it dearly. Majority of the time it’s my safe queen but when friends and family come to visit it’s the first gun I pack.

Watch out the A T F idiot squads would arrest you for intent. "It says full auto and thats intent."

Funny how I started replaying in my head the field strip steps from my time in the Marines. $7k x 10k+ is $70m! You know the Belgian FN execs were utterly gobsmacked when they realized that us “gun crazy” Americans were willing to drop that kind of coin on a SA only replica. Wow…. Great video. Thanks for putting it together.

Speaking of interest in militaria, Mr. McCollum, are you aware of any commercial interest in companies manufacturing rifles in the new 6.8x51 cartridge?

@ 2:45ish. mispoken there. you said make it from semi to full for civi market. yeah I wished but.... I don't mind but maybe roll text or something for clearaty.

Guido Schriewer

shame is: those whom humped it in the field will not be able to afford that 8000$ semiauto. otherwise great fn brought it to the market! looks kind of big infront of you on the table. sure it is... 2gun competitions. what reload. well, unless stage design.

M249: fun to shoot, but absolutely miserable when it comes to field-stripping and reassembly.

You didn't show how much fun you can have by removing the gas piston on the barrel assembly. A carbon choked gas piston is usually the fault of most issues with the issued SAW's.

I have a range video coming; didn't see any deformation to the box mag...

Does it stil eat the followers off of the box mags on the last round?
