The Most Expensive Machine Gun Ever Sold (Ad-Free)

Morphy's recently took the world record for the most expensive machine gun ever sold at public auction - with a transferrable FN Minimi. It sold for a winning bid of $490,000, which became a total price of $588,000 after adding the 20% buyer's premium. Good heavens. So today, let's consider why someone might speak THAT MUCH money for a Minimi...

If this is a new record, what was the previous highest price paid for a registered transferable belt fed machine gun?

What amazes me even more than the price of the gun was the buyers fee percentage. Most really high end auctions (like for cars) cap out the fee they charge both to the seller and the buyer. I can understand the sellers fee because of the work the auction company must do to realize a maximum bid but why does a buyer have to pay anything? One reason I very seldom buy via the auction route.

Loved listening to your comments while at the same time wondering what the Morphy people were thinking about your comments.

So they can get berated for not field stripping and reassembling it in the comfort of their own home?

Haha, look at this beauty of a rare treasure… because this is actually my most favorite gun ever, the FN Minimi. The reason for me loving the Minimi so much is that I can use the Minimi to trump both the Colt M4 and Kalashnikov AK, thus no arguing of which is better. And because you actually tracked one down that’s the only true transferable, we’re so getting closer to having a specifically designated history episode on the Minimi, and I’m now 1000 times excited!!!
