"History of Weapons and War" Patron Early Access

I am really excited to announce a new streaming service for historical & education firearms video content: History of Weapons and War. This is a collaboration with seven other firearms channels to put all the best educational gun content in one place - a place that is outside the reach of Youtube.

To sign up, just go to:

https://weaponsandwar.tv

We have a special discount code for you (my Patreon and Playeur supporters) - "20PATREON23" will get you 50% off your first month. After you sign up on the web site, you can go to your platform of choice, download the app, login in, and start watching! We are available on:

- Apple TV (aka tvOS)

- Apple App Store

- Android App Store

- Android TV

- Roku

- Amazon Fire TV

- Web browser

FYI, I will continue to publish all my videos where you can see them via Patreon, but some of the content going forward will not be publicly visible on Youtube.

I will have a livestream tomorrow (Saturday the 16th) at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern / 0100 GMT (Sorry, Europe!) to answer any questions you have:

We don't change clocks in AZ; we're on Pacific time right now.

I have some thoughts about expanding the number of creators once things are running smoothly and successfully, but I don't plan to increase the price. More creators would be balanced out by expanding to a wider subject matter and a larger audience.

Forgotten Weapons

I was able to download the app on android, I think I missed it becauce Google has rearranged how search results show.

Infin1ty

I am assuming the end goal is to increase the number of creators on the app, given that, will the price continue to increase as more channels are added?

Patreon postings will continue to go through YouTube as they do now. At this point the Chauchat Challenge series is the only thing completely exclusive to the App, but I expect other material will be as well in the future. Some things, like hand loading and gunsmithing, can't be posted on YouTube at all.

Forgotten Weapons

Does this mean that videos will be linked through the new website for patron subscribers, or will patreon postings still go through YouTube? Which would then lead me to ask do we essentially HAVE to subscribe to the new streaming service on top of patreon just to see all the videos. My apologies if you've answered this but I just want to be sure I understand it all correctly.

Me too!

I really hope C&R Arsenal joins this project

Bazingaeffect

Correct; the coupon is only for a monthly subscription.

Forgotten Weapons

I am trying to sign up for the annual plan, but the code 20PATREON23 is not working. Does that only apply if I sign up for monthly payments?

I do have a solution for high-quality automated captioning, but it will take me a couple weeks to get it up and running - and I don't know if it will be practical to apply it to back-catalog videos.

Forgotten Weapons

I signed up for the new service, and it looks like an aggregation of good programming. The one place I feel it’s lacking is the ability to turn on captioning. I have hearing injury from being close to a .30 cal, with failed hearing protection. Adding to this, with the noise of a weapon’s report, I tend to watch Forgotten Weapons at a lower volume. I rely on captioning to reliably make sense of what’s being said. Without captioning, I miss one to two words per sentence, and deciphering the meaning from context takes focus away from enjoying the content. I hope captioning is a feature being added soon, as this could make a difference for me in adopting the new platform.

You may ask The Operations Room (and their sister channel) of they would be interested. They do historical war and conflict videos.

Falling Steel

The first horizontal bar of content is the full catalog of each channel - the thumbnails are the channel logos. You might be overlooking them because the format is totally different than the other thumbnails...

Forgotten Weapons

Maybe I'm missing it, but one area of opportunity might be to offer a sort or search by channel, or have a list of the participating channels somewhere on the website. I see the channels in this video here, but it's not as clear on the app itself. Also some of the thumbnails could probably be improved. Many of your videos in the Fancy Gun collection are just the black screen and title text, but some have the half title/half picture style like your thumbnails on Youtube. It's probably tedious to change, but that might help people find something they are interested in at a glance, instead of wondering what a Montenegrin Gasser is.

Doug Brown

do three out of eight here next to others because... can't do them all. for me that would only be interesting via web browser. I'd change credit card only to optional paypal or whatever.

Guido Schriewer

I very much like how you have organized the content. breaking things down into weapons type gets a big thumbs up from me.

Kenneth Crips

I have loaded the iPhone, and Apple TV apps and have subscribed looks very good. One thing you need to do in integrate the sign in with Apples Keychain for automatic password generation. I had to go outside the app to generation one using Bitwarden. Using Apple's Keychain means automatic sign in across the Apple's ecosystem.

Kenneth Crips

After processing and App Store fees, a subscription here is approximately the same as a $1/month support to each of the channels. Given typical support levels, Patreon is better for the individual channels. The purpose of the App is not to replace Patreon, but to provide a secure hosting platform and to expand viewership beyond the Patreon community.

Forgotten Weapons

Does signing up for this support you and the other channels better then here? Looks like 3 of my memberships would be on this new platform.
