Pacific Theater USMC-Modified Johnson M1941 Rifle (ad-free)

Johnson M1941 rifles were used in limited numbers by the US Marine Corps in the Pacific theater of World War Two, but they were used - and generally well liked. Interestingly, there was a fairly common field modification done by the Marines, and that was to cut off the front sight wings, and sometimes cut the rear aperture into a deep V-notch or a flat U-notch style. This particular ex-Marine rifle shows both of these modifications.

would much rather have that rear sight NOT modified. the garand is better but the johnsons sure ain't bad. the feed system is some idea. say compared to a ag-42 that would be kind of fair.... rather the johnson!

Great video, but I think you’re mixing up the words “regiment” and “battalion” a bit, and there’s a big difference. From what I remember, there was only one Marine Parachute Regiment, which consisted of three Marine Parachute Battalions. Certainly three Marine regiments would need a lot more than 500 rifles.

Yes they were generally well liked by the Marines that had them, but they were coming from the Springfield 1903A3. A functioning semi-auto would have been a big improvement. I have talked with Marines that had the Johnsons and when they were issued Garands there was no looking back. The only thing they didn't like at first was the 8 round clip the Garand used. They got used to it.
