Modular Guns: Assembling a SIG USW-320

Today I'm at SIG Sauer Parts (soon to be ModGuns) to play around with assembling a SIG 320. I've always been interested in stocked pistols, and so I'm going to take this opportunity to put together a USW (Universal Service Weapon). This originated as a complete pistol made by B&T (based on the CZ75) with an integrated folding stock and Aimpoint Nano optic. B&T decided to also make stocked chassis units for Glock and SIG pistols, and so the SIG model is what I'll do doing today. The modular design of the SIG 320 should make this a fun and pretty simple process...

Let 'em burn.

I can just hear YouTube screaming and having a meltdown as you put this together.

Wes

I have heard about the modularity of the 320, but had no idea to what extent. Thank you for this information. ModGuns will likely become busy.

EyeBall

dang. my idea of modular is an extra cylinder for a revolver like a blackhawk. little coopvid with 9hole when in the state maybe? wow. no thanx... to get this whole uniit with such tiiinyyy springs together.. hope you had enough coffee!

Guido Schriewer

Thanks for this one. I've had to navigate my way through the tricky bits of an M18 and it was no fun.

IMO, the modular aspect makes a lot of sense from a logistics and support perspective. It also allows easy changes or upgrades down the road.

Forgotten Weapons

I agree. I always thought the "Modular" part of the Modular Handgun program was an excuse to buy the Sig. Confirmation can be found in the fact that that military bought the M18 as a separate weapon. Outside of SOCOM units (who can already do pretty much anything they want) I don't see Spc Snuffy being able to go to the unit armorer to have his M17 modded.

By my assessment, this video does not break any of the rules (in part because it is proactively not monetized). It is a tricky question, though, because the enforcement of the rules is very subjective.

Forgotten Weapons

Hmm, what are the rules? The platform is ok with this?

We need more of these "cooking with Ian" style videos

Tyler Horne

I see we have different definitions of “simple”. Interesting video, though.

Terry

You should take a look at the Raider from Flux Defense if you get the chance. It's basically the USW, but with a little more modularity and support for a larger variety of optics.

Asa Leon Barber

I took it to Desert Brutality - this Saturday's video is my evaluation of it there.

Forgotten Weapons

It is a clever platform. I don't actually expect the military to actually leverage the kits they claim to intend to use. The mod kits will sit in armories, while most will have std issue config. The military logistics isn't well suited to applying variables - its paradigm is quite literally uniformity.

I have wanted a USW for some time. This may be the time. !! Can't wait to see you shoot it.
