First Shots: FN's New High Power (Ad-free)

Today I'm taking FN's new High Power out to the range for some first shots. I'm curious to see if it really is more comfortable to shoot than the original High Power, and if it can digest a wide variety of ammunition (something the originals were not great at)...

I predict the rear sights will break when round counts go high. Well there will probably be something aftermarket for it that owners will want to change to anyway. The ones I saw at SHOT were very, very sharp. Great sight picture but sharp.

Spinners seem to be the devils work...

thought that would go for all. purpose as much as one could claim but everything should be recreational fun. if not... wrong piece.

Very interesting - I would like to see you clean up the brass.

Reliability covers a lot of other complaints. Looks good to me.

I have a Argentine made Hi-Power which I really like. Luckily, no hammer bite ever. Maybe because the Argentine grips are better? Trigger is not too bad after I removed the magazine safety

I'm not a purist--although a Waffenamt marked Belgian was my EDC for awhile decades ago--but I have owned three BHPs, and my current Izzy-marked FN has the C&S "no-bite" hammer, mag safety delete and replacement springs and grips. Anyone who's detail-stripped an original has a lot to cuss about. What would JMB do? Aluminum frame, positive 1911-type safety, sear linkage back into the frame where it belongs. Might well have turned out to be very like a Para-Ordnance. Maybe it's better to look into the flashing blue light, forget the original and ask the question: Is there a place in the market for a reliable ergonomic single action hicap nine with a retro vibe? I think the answer is yes. My druthers--original grip and magazine compatibility, light weight and leanness, a lower profile rear sight that doesn't crowd the hammer spur--don't dictate the market. Would I EDC this one? Well, why not?

Never much of a fan of the original high power, so I'm glad FN didn't just dust off the blue prints. Would like to shoot one though.

The fact that it could Digest that PPU trash speaks volumes about the quality of the pistol!! 🤠👍

I watched your video from yesterday and truth be told I don't see the High Power in it. The original was my off duty pistol in HI and I remember it for as you suggested the good things. Skinny and you could rack it from the front. Now it's seems to look like most pistols these days. Now I'll watch the video 🙂
