She exuded a sense of beauty, purity, gentleness, and grace.
"Goddess."
Matthew bowed slightly in a gesture of respect.
"I've come for you," Aesia said, smiling without beating around the bush. "You must be wondering why I've been providing so much help without asking for anything in return. It's because I hope to gain your assistance in the upcoming events, even your protection."
Matthew nodded gently, indicating his willingness to listen.
"The Odd Days Change is approaching, and Elandor will face the darkest and most tumultuous period after the Age of Enlightenment. Countless ancient evils sealed away are now awakening. What's even more tragic for the inhabitants of this continent is that they will not only have to contend with the creatures of dusk, monsters, and abominations in the flesh but also the gods who fought alongside them during the previous dark times, are now standing against them."
Aesia spoke of the gods without hesitation, as if she wasn't one of them.
She smiled tenderly, her eyes filled with warmth. "For the gods, the best news is that the calamity has departed. However, this is precisely the news that the Seven Holy Alliances and you do not want to hear. Nevertheless, this is an established fact now. Darkness and turmoil are approaching. Matthew, it won't arrive at your doorstep overnight, but it's already on its way."
Matthew asked in a deep voice, "What is the Odd Days Change, and how can you be sure that the Cataclysm Mage has left Elandor? What if she returns unexpectedly?"
Aesia seemed well-prepared and immediately replied, "The universe's operation follows seemingly capricious but traceable theorems, and our plane is no different. Light and darkness always coexist and give birth to each other. Before the Age of Enlightenment, the gods and mortals together swept away most of the darkness in this plane, but it was not completely eradicated. They merely went into hiding, waiting for the opportune moment."
"The Odd Days Change is such an era. When that day arrives, the powers of all evil creatures will expand to unbelievable levels, and the forces representing light will, following the law of 'as one diminishes, the other grows,' be infinitely weakened."
"As for the Cataclysm, her arrival prematurely triggered the Odd Days Change. If it weren't for the unexpected rise in power at the Temple of Fate, the gods' strength would have been enough to suppress those evil creatures, at least for another thousand years."
"In fact, we can't be certain if the Cataclysm has left, but for the gods, who are weakened and bearing a century-old grudge, this is the best opportunity. They are planning to unite and do something that could overturn the laws of the world. Due to the requirement of non-divulgence in their divinations, I cannot tell you the details of that matter. Just know that the continent of Elandor will gradually enter a turbulent era."
"Everyone will be swept into the flames of war and conflict, with no one spared."
As she spoke, her tone and expression took on a hint of pity.
"They?" Matthew looked at Aesia with skepticism.
Was the Moonlight Goddess implying that she was not one of the meddlesome gods?
"What else?" Aesia's tone turned slightly resentful. "If you're willing to collaborate with them, why do you think I willingly gave up my 'Moon' divinity when I was forcibly promoted at the Temple of Fate, leaving only 'Moonlight'?"
Aesia used to be the Moon Goddess?
She voluntarily relinquished her role as a Moon Goddess?
Matthew realized he had stumbled upon highly secretive information.
"Of course, I admit that giving up that divine duty was necessary to better preserve myself during the promotion at the Temple of Fate. The Cataclysm established the rule that 'the weaker, the closer to the mortal realm,' and Moonlight is the most accessible medium to the material world. So, I became one of the few gods capable of influencing the mortal realm among the pantheon."
Aesia continued, "But I also can't stand their actions. I didn't participate in the three major curses, which is proof enough. If you doubt this, you can verify it with the members of the Seven Holy Alliances."
Matthew nodded. He was inclined to believe Aesia, as confirming this matter would not be difficult.
"So, what do you want me to do for you?" Matthew asked.
Aesia candidly replied, "I believe that the gods' insane actions are unlikely to succeed. If they fail, it will cause irreversible damage to the Temple of Fate, and I will be affected as well. I hope that if such a situation truly arises, you can offer me some protection."
Matthew was puzzled, "Why me? I'm just a second-tier mage."
Aesia sighed lightly, "The first reason is that I couldn't find anyone else. Thanks to the efforts of the Seven Holy Alliances, the gods are seen as nothing but evil in the eyes of people, especially mages. It's been many years since a new Druid was born in the Moonlit Forest, and my influence in the mortal realm is diminishing. Just at this time, you appeared before me."
"The second reason is that I believe you have immense potential. You have Ronan's Guardian Deity on you, and I know that guy. He wouldn't waste one of his few Guardian Deities on someone without potential."
Matthew was mildly surprised. He hadn't even realized that Ronan the Great Mage had bestowed a "Guardian Deity" on him. Hearing this from Aesia was, in a way, a show of goodwill.
"By the way, is Ronan the Great Mage truly trapped in the Star Realms? Is that part of the gods' plan?" Matthew hurriedly asked.
Aesia blinked and said, "That's a topic I cannot discuss. But I can assure you, someone like Ronan isn't that easy to kill."
Matthew instantly understood and gleaned at least three pieces of information:
- Ronan is indeed trapped in the Star Realms.
- This is the work of the gods.
- Ronan the Great Mage is unlikely to die.
Matthew contemplated it.
He carefully reviewed the goddess's words and, not finding any flaws for the moment, said, "I am willing to provide you with a certain level of protection, within the limits of my abilities. However, the ultimate decision on the extent of this protection remains with me, and it will depend on how much value you can provide me."
His words were blunt but honest.
Aesia, upon hearing this, smiled with satisfaction. She looked at Matthew and said, "What do you need from me, young Necromancer?"
Matthew, seizing the opportunity, asked, "I want to know just how much you can do."
Aesia boldly replied, "If you become strong enough during the upcoming dark era, then you can have a former Moon Goddess as your wife."
"Just a wife?" Unconsciously, Matthew's excitement started to show.
Aesia looked at him with a hint of resentment. "What else do you want, greedy Necromancer?"
With that said, her previously approachable demeanor suddenly changed.
An overwhelming aura of authority pressed down upon Matthew's chest!
Matthew nearly buckled at the knees.
"I am the Moon Goddess, not to be trifled with!" Aesia transformed into a sacred and inviolable figure, her gaze towards Matthew filled with disdain and disgust.
"Filthy and weak Necromancer, a mere second-tier power, still harboring desires for the Moon's celestial maiden? I could crush you like an ant beneath my foot."
With that, she added, her tone dripping with condescension, "I could easily trample you into the dust."
As she spoke, her presence became overbearing, and Matthew felt as if he was about to kneel in submission.
"I am the Moon Goddess, not to be profaned!" Aesia abruptly assumed an aura of sacred invincibility, her gaze toward Matthew now tinged with disdain and repulsion.
"Filthy and feeble Necromancer, a mere second-tier mage, daring to covet the Moon's celestial maiden? I could squash you like a bug."
And with that, she declared, her words dripping with condescension, "I could crush you beneath my heel as if you were nothing."
With those words, her presence became overwhelming, and Matthew felt as if he were about to kneel before her.
The ethereal figure composed of moonlight slowly approached Matthew.
Matthew's field of vision seemed to freeze.
In the midst of the swirling world, all he could see were those fair, bare feet stepping on the barren ground.
Each cute and playful toe was, in his eyes, irresistibly tantalizing.
"It's enchantment..." Matthew shook his head vigorously.
The "Temperance" field suddenly unfolded!
But it wasn't enough to immediately break the goddess's enchantment; instead, it plunged Matthew into an enduring tug-of-war.
It was unclear how much time passed.
He finally snapped out of that dazed state.
His back was soaked with sweat, and his lips were parched.
Matthew was on one knee, gasping for breath.
"Phew, the goddess really knows how to play... Impressive."
Recalling the experience just now, Matthew felt it was thrilling. He possessed the "Heart of Still Waters" and had a strong willpower, being able to resist the enchantment of the Fairy Princess Lulu and the Succubus, yet in front of the Moonlight Goddess, it nearly broke him!
Gods, truly formidable.
Just then, he felt a burning sensation in his chest. Lowering his head, he saw a new message on his believer's emblem.
...
"As the eve of the Dark Era approaches, the number of sorcerers on this continent will increase a hundredfold. Be cautious of the Cataclysm Cult. By the way, you have a strong will, and I'm very satisfied."
Sorcerers, huh?
Matthew contemplated.
At this moment, Ella, who had been possessed by the goddess, finally woke up.
She looked at the kneeling Matthew in a dazed manner and was somewhat surprised. "Matthew, what's this posture?"
Then, Miss Owl's voice became coquettish: "Oh my, I've heard that this is the fixed posture humans use when seeking a partner. Are you, perhaps?"
"No, no, Matthew."
Ella's teasing left Matthew both amused and perplexed.
He was about to explain.
But then Ella added, "At least not until you've mastered the Wild Form of the Owl."
Matthew was left completely dumbfounded.
