Hey everyone! As you all know, Office Perks will be releasing on Steam. What you might not know is that v020 is going to be releasing on Steam SOON in Early Access! I'll announce a date as soon as I have it.
But...here's the deal. I have a build up on Steam right now, and a few amazing people helping beta test it. We're seeing a couple issues:
Some old saves are giving us the same issues we've run into before. As I've noted, this should not be an issue with v021 and beyond, so this is somewhat expected, though still shitty. It's the same issue, so not all saves are broken, just a handful here and there depending on when they were created and where the save point was.
Steam achievements are acting funky due to the way Renpy stores persistent data. Even starting a new game, you'll get all of the achievements (that you've unlocked) the first time an achievement is found in the game (the Stand Up scene on Day 1).
So...I have a couple options.
Option 1: Maintain two versions of the game. Steam version and non-Steam version. The issue here is that those of you here that also own the game on Steam would essentially be playing two different versions of the game, meaning your saves would be incompatible with each other. You'd have to play each update twice to keep things in sync. Also makes things more difficult for me keeping things separate. Not a great solution...
Option 2: Delete the persistent data including achievements you've already unlocked, seen text (meaning SKIP wouldn't work until you play through again, or turn on "skip unseen text"), your settings (show/hide fetish content, music/sound volume, etc.). Your recent v020 saves should still work. Not great, but not as bad as Option 1...This is essentially a "you should probably just start over on the Steam version" solution so you can get the achievements and have a clean save point. However, this will also affect v021 when it releases on patreon.
My preferred option is Option 2 because that would let me reset everything and get us a clean version of the game where saves work, achievements are granted properly, and we're all on one version going forward.
I'm still working my way through the options to hopefully come up with a solution that solves everything, but I'm getting increasingly convinced that this just might not be possible.
PS - I added a v021 sneak peek to this post to try to help neutralize your potential rage.
