On this edition of Backstage Pass, I'll be talking about…
Designing Grovyle! Not a very wordy Backstage Pass, just sharing some old designs I dug up.
So Grovyle, despite being a pretty major character in the games, hasn’t really gotten much love from me compared to other characters. That said, I had the general idea of making him part Chikorita, since Chikorita is one of my favorite grass types!
Fun fact: I actually decided to change Grovyle’s subspecies at the last minute, because I suddenly was inspired to hash out some designs. And that’s how we got the thorny Cacturne traits he has today!
