Dragonfly in the desert

I only shoot nudes.

Except when a model asks me to do a little something in addition.
And I don’t hate the concept.

It might sound selfish, but I don’t want to spend the time retouching a series of images I don’t care for.

This is one of the notable exceptions with Zulame, who I made get up at 4 a.m. and hike, something she didn’t care much for but still did it.

Perhaps more importantly, I found the lingerie intriguing, which was the defining factor.

We did this set as one of the last things on the way back to the car, so at this point, I knew I had plenty of great art nude images.

Search for Zulame / Zulema in the Tags to see some of them.

For the first four, I placed her on the edge of a cave that provided some contrast, and thus, the shape of the light gave some contrast.

The last two were almost vertical sunlight.

That underlines a point I repeatedly make when discussing light:
The light in these two last images works on the lingerie because the clothing provides detail and distraction.

But if you (mentally) strip away the textile, you notice, especially in the first image, that there are no bodily contours as the light strikes Zulame from the front, which rarely works for nudes but can be okay with textiles.

My point is that if you learn to light the nude body pleasingly, it will also work when shooting clothed models.

But it doesn't necessarily work the other way around.
