D. Genevieve is very pale of nature, so I thought it could be interesting to create something brighter on my sofa set than I’d naturally do. And I used an 85mm ƒ1.2 to get a shallow depth of field to keep only the exciting bits in focus and let the rest fade into oblivion.
Suppose you read “The Command to Look” by Richard Mortensen. In that case, you might remember that he advocated never using something less than an F8, as it leaves the background unrecognizable. All I can say is it works for me. I love a shallow depth of field, but it’s an interesting discussion: Do you have a preference? Everything sharp, or a very narrow focus (imagine I put a gun to your head and you could only choose one)?
