Goddesses and the rock
Added 2024-06-02 14:00:11 +0000 UTCI was in the US last month and spent a week meeting with old friends (and gaining new ones) and photographs before my family flew over for a much-needed vacation.
I drove from Las Vegas to Kanab to meet up with Kaela and Ingrid (a guide) but then also ran into Goblin Goddess, Clara Rene, Earthy Eve, and Vivian Cove as they were running a whole month of workshops out of Kanab.
We spent a couple of days exploring, and on the second day, I took them to a place I first visited in ’18 while shooting my book, Venus On Mars.
These two images are from the second day - and more to come.
The BTS of Kaela (and the videos if you are on the Photographers / Vault tiers) are good reminders that objects are three-dimensional:
They can be absolutely stunning from one side and bland from the other side.
So, be sure to observe a scene from as many vantage points as possible especially when photographing on location.
When I'm exploring a scene, I frequently take a few iPhone shots to evaluate an idea quickly. Here, I'm playing with shadows.
The image with the shadow is probably one of my favorite images from this year:
It’s intriguing.
It has excellent composition and striking graphics.
Gorgeous lines for the eye to follow

It makes you wonder and want to explore the image further to figure it out.
And when you do, there are plenty of details to explore.
To me, it strikes all the right cords, and I'll have a print of that framed in my office before long.
