Alice In Borderland Episode 8

there's definitely a feeling of upheaval at the Hatter and Aguni twist, but to be fair Aguni was very explicitly pragmatic the entire season. Wanting Karube over his nameless Beach friend in the tag game, asking for Karube again when Arisu first came to the beach and only requesting Usagi when he learned Karube died because he knows firsthand how capable and strong she is. I felt it was clear even back then it was for practical reasons, not sexual ones. (Niragi and all the other underlings were obviously gross though) It's chilling to see just how much the Beach made Hatter suffer in secret, but Aguni never seemed crazy to me. This felt less like a change in personality and more of a reveal of why he was acting so tense and conflicted lately. Haunting regardless, it just didn't feel like a sudden in my eyes. The flashbacks make it pretty clear that Hatter was trying to give people a reason to go on, a goal to move towards, so they didn't give up on life. Having to be that shining light for so many people is what broke him, they practically straight up said so. So yes, the Beach people made Hatter crazy, not the other way around. Everyone depended on him rather than finding their own reason to live or even just accepting life's absurdity, which is the thesis of the story as a whole. And that caused him to get crushed under that responsibility. It was only Hatters fault to the extent that he was an idealist who believed people would rise to the occasion instead of just using him as a crutch, who believed that you can give people hope through such a concrete method. You could argue that it's more his fault because he thought he was strong enough for such a task, but given the absurdist lens of the story the hope plan likely would have failed even if Hatter was a flawless leader. (ironically enough, it made himself lose hope. he pulled an empty gun on Aguni to test his reaction because he couldn't even believe that his best friend would remain loyal anymore) It wasn't about him being a good enough figurehead, it was the fact that no chosen reason to go on and live is good enough to save you from all of the universe's cold and cruel games and coincidences. The characters have to learn that in order to later realize that your only choice is to acknowledge how absurd the world is and that there are no rules or answers, but you have to live anyway. You have to live in spite of that, to embrace kindness and laughter. That's how you win. In this way, the world of the games is exactly like our reality. This world just spells it out harder, but it's the same as ours: there's rules on the surface, (the games) but really it's a completely unknowable paradoxical mess (the world itself, where time is all messed up, lasers pop out of nowhere, and games seemingly have resources and setup that make no logical sense, even in this season) whether you look at our world scientifically, morally, or any other way. Very impressed with this show, the most cohesive and complete narrative I've seen in a while. The absurdist message makes every little bit make sense and feel intentional. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv79l1b-eoI this is the simplest and best explanation of absurdism i've seen, and also fairly short and funny) Every plothole I've seen mentioned so far has come from taking the show too literally and concretely for no real reason. I saw a great comment from an essayist i like playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake's ending, which was that a very important skill for story analysis and interpretation is to recognize how much of a given scene or chapter is prose, and how much is poetry. Most of Alice in Borderland feels created to be viewed as poetry.

2025-05-06 22:48:04 +0000 UTCI think this is why Aguni killed that on militant with him in the tag game. With militants that are getting out of hand or to hard to control he kills in games.

2025-02-19 01:08:52 +0000 UTCI think because this was the season 1 finale they packed a ton into the episode!! I really enjoy this show, the plot holes or stretches/iffy logic things that happen here and there dont bug me too much because they do such a great job overall, i can overlook some things. I love the character arcs, the creativity, the sets, the games, and the look of the show, and they always keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. I am really enjoying rewatching this with you guys! Excited for season 2!

2025-02-13 19:57:17 +0000 UTCmaybe they told her she is the witch, if they dont find you u will survive but they all die, so she thought if i die the game is over, she was already feeling suicidal so just killed herself thinking that would just end the game straight away, they may not have told her about the body had to be burnt because the games master are twisted that way

2025-02-13 19:55:29 +0000 UTCagreed. and i don't understand why no one decided to check the CCTV footage? i don't remember if there was any power outage. There are so many plot holes in this show that it's irritating. But still the plot is unique and interesting.

2025-02-13 13:59:19 +0000 UTCWhy would she think that people would figure it out, though? Worst case, literally everyone would die if they didn’t. Even Arisu only figured it out because he tried to think about how the gamemasters would toy with the players - but she wasn’t even a gamemaster, just a pawn in the system. Could she even decide on her own who the witch would be for the game? Did she have enough influence to make decisions on how the games were played and what the rules were?

2025-02-13 01:57:41 +0000 UTCI really like the show a lot so far, but it can be somewhat questionable at times. We see a bunch of people with guns. Then Aguni gets accused of being the witch (he even confessed), killing Hatter, and going on a rampage - but nobody is shooting? Then Niragi appears and also goes on a rampage, shooting and killing people, but again, nobody is shooting back? At the end, we see a bunch of guys with guns again. I mean, sure, the one dude apparently had no bullets left, but do they really expect me to believe that all the guns were empty?
