Life under the bridge

Kelsey Wolfe is contemplating life at a small creek in Yorkshire.

I went to visit Kelsey, and we walked up a hill in her backyard and came upon an abundance of locations.

If you shoot with models, don’t forget to ask if they know any locations nearby where they live. Remember, they have likely shot with other photographers, so possibly they know some cool places you’d never find yourself.

A little tip: If I shoot near still water, I frequently try to shoot at a really low angle - as close to the water as possible.

So, here is one "trick" I've found that helps me to avoid dropping the camera in the water:

I flip up the back display and use that to compose the image; once I've set the zoom level, I take my left hand and wrap my pinky, ring, and middle finger finder around the bottom of the camera, and extend my index finger straight out (towards the water). Then, I lower the camera until my fingernail gets wet.

If more than the nail gets wet, I know I'm in danger of wetting the camera and can easily pull up, but I can keep my focus on looking at the model or framing the image on the back display.

I'll do the same working in seawater, but because of the waves, I'll pull the camera up whenever any my fingers get wet.
