Rosalie idly doom-scrolled on her smartphone, cuddled up to her mate, Emmett, while he played Call of Duty on his Xbox.
Boom! Bang! Bang! Brrrrrt-
The sound of gunfire through the TV's speakers was quiet to the human ear, but to Rosalie it was almost obnoxiously loud. She was sure Emmett relished the racket as he yelled into his microphone over the sounds of the game.
"Take that! Eat my bullets, boys! I'll come visit your moms once we're done!"
Rosalie smacked her big idiot who just looked at her with his boyish smirk and gave an insufferable wink before returning his attention to his game. She knew he was just trash talking, but if any middle-aged strumpets did try and seduce her Emmett, they may have an accident.
It wouldn't be the first time, and Emmett knew it, too.
Something about him always attracted the older women like flies to honey. Rosalie was pretty sure it turned him on when she got jealous and that's why he always said shit like that. He never took it too far, though. Always toeing the line, teasing, but never doing anything that would hurt her. The big lug worshipped the ground she walked on, just as she did to him in return.
Rosalie's fingers paused as she passed a new trending video on Youtube that had been viewed over fifty million times within the first twenty-four hours it was uploaded. Fifty-four million views!
"Hello, I'm Supergirl?" Rosalie read the title of the video bemusedly. The thumbnail featured a selfie of a beautiful young blonde woman dressed in what looked like some sort of blue spandex and a red cape, with an 'S' symbol on her chest. Rosalie clicked the link and cast it to the TV, interrupting Emmett's irritating game and replacing it with the video.
"Hey, babe! What the-" Emmett started to complain before Rosalie interrupted him with another smack to the shoulder.
"Shut up, Em. Look at this! Just watch," Rosalie said exasperatedly as the video started playing.
The video started with a panoramic view of Seattle's skyline. Rosalie recognized it well enough, having lived near there for quite a few years. The camera shifted perspective, turning in the air, until a person came into frame.
A girl who was flying.
Rosalie instinctively looked for the tell-tale signs of special effects, the small flaws that were usually unnoticeable to humans yet stood out all too abruptly to her enhanced vampiric senses. To her shock and confusion, she didn't see any.
It really looked like this human girl was genuinely flying in the sky, her blue eyes twinkling with mirth and joy.
Rosalie was very, very confused. Rosalie needed to know how and why. She needed to know everything, and so she tuned out her many racing thoughts to focus on the video.
"Hey everyone! It's nice to meet you! I'm Supergirl!" the aforementioned Supergirl exclaimed cheerfully while doing a cute little pirouette in mid-air, her skirt flaring out teasingly, yet not showing anything too scandalous.
The camera rotated around the small blonde, really hammering home the fact that she was hovering in the sky. The disorganized chaos that was the city of Seattle sprawled out beneath her, covering the countryside and ending at the ocean.
Even Emmett was quiet, and wasn't that a miracle? Rosalie could count the number of times her big idiot had been surprised into silence. Normally, she couldn't get him to shut up, but this situation was more than a little strange. Who was this Supergirl?
"I'm sure you must be thinking, 'Wow! Those are some great special effects! Is this a trailer for a movie or something?' No. No, I can assure you, I am flying in the sky under my own power. My name is Supergirl, and I am a superhero." Supergirl said with a straight, serious face.
"I'm sure most of you who are already aware of my superhero activities earlier today must be a little... unnerved, perhaps? Does the knowledge that someone like me exists scare you? Something beyond humanity? Something more?"
Supergirl's solemnity only lasted for an instant before she gave them a wink and a smile. Said smile, for all that it was bright and filled with innocence, was distinctly predatory, especially easy to see to the two vampires who were predators themselves.
"You're probably asking yourselves many questions about my intentions and my origins. Am I some sort of human experiment? A goddess? An alien? A mutant? Well... I can't tell you everything, but I'll share a little, eventually. Promise. A girl needs to keep some mystery about her, you know," Supergirl continued like the tease she so obviously was.
"This channel will be used to document my hero activities. I'll release videos periodically along with any important announcements I have for the world. I thought I'd keep this short and sweet, so without further ado, here's a compilation of my first day as a superhero! Bonus points to anyone who can guess all my abilities!"
What followed was a ten-minute montage of Supergirl flying around Seattle, tossing around muggers, gangsters, and worse like they were unruly children. She broke arms like a normal human broke toothpicks, and she could move faster than even the two watching vampires could react.
"Woah," Emmett finally snapped out of his stupor and used his laptop to pull up whatever news articles he could find about Supergirl. Sure enough, there were hundreds of eyewitness sightings of Supergirl performing heroic acts. The whole world was going crazy!
A few months ago, Iron Man first appeared. In short order, it was revealed that the billionaire Tony Stark had created a suit of flying armor outfitted to the teeth with all his most potent weaponry. The eccentric man piloted the armor himself and flew around blowing up his enemies with prejudice.
Iron Man was something humanity could understand. A high-tech prosthesis with advanced weaponry created by the foremost weapons designer on the planet. Supergirl was something completely new, and nobody could understand her within their normal frame of reference.
"So cool..." Rosalie's eyes shined as they watched Supergirl save dozens of people in a variety of ways. There were a few too many scenes of cornered women in alleys for Rosalie's comfort, but Supergirl always got there in time to save the day.
"I'll say," Emmett whistled. "The whole world is raving mad about this girl. I've never seen the internet explode like this. Her Youtube video has over fifty million views and it hasn't even been twenty-four hours!"
Rosalie and Emmett were so excited about the world gaining another real Superhero that, for the first time in a while, they managed to forget about the constant drama their family had been plagued by ever since Bella Swan came into their lives.
Edward was off sulking in the forest while slowly starving himself? Not their problem. The world was a much more interesting place, suddenly. Edward's depressed nonsense couldn't dampen their spirits this time.
Rosalie couldn't help but be filled with just the slightest hint of childish wonder. Would they be able to meet Supergirl someday? Learn her secrets? Would she think they were monsters, or would she be accepting of their nature? Could they be friends?
Rosalie tried not to get her hopes up, but, to her eyes, the world looked a little bit more magical. A little bit more worth it. She leaned into Emmett and rested her head on his shoulder as they watched Supergirl smash a grown man into the pavement.
So cool.

Alice couldn't see Bella.
They'd only been gone from Forks for a couple days and already Bella was lost to Alice's sight. Alice was a professional at lying to Edward after so many years living with the mind reader, so when she promised him that she wouldn't look for Bella with her powers, Edward believed her.
Alice was a phenomenal liar.
And yet, no matter how hard she tried, Alice couldn't see Bella. It was maddening. She could still see Bella in her visions of the more distant future, but her immediate future was clouded and blank. If not for the solidity of the visions that included Bella, Alice would've been worried for her friend's safety.
Instead, she was just confused. Alice hadn't ever experienced something like this before. What was interfering with her power?
"Hey, Jasper?" Alice called her mate, unwilling to get up from lounging on the sofa.
"Yeah, babe?" Jasper asked as he blurred into the room at vampire speed.
Alice looked him in the eyes, willing him to see her resolve. "We're going back to Forks," she declared, tone brooking no argument. She didn't care that they'd barely been gone any time at all. She was worried about her best friend.
Jasper opened his mouth to argue, to remind her of her promise to Edward, but, feeling her unshakeable resolve with his empathy, he acquiesced. "Okay," he agreed, simply.
"Perfect!" Alice giggled, launching herself off the couch. "You get the car ready. I'll go pack!" she yelled as she rushed off to her room. They'd only been in Ithaca for a day and had barely unpacked. It wouldn't take her long to be ready to leave.
Jasper could only sigh fondly as he moved to fulfill his mate's desires. Oh, the things the feared Major of the South did for love. Not that he was complaining.
There wasn't much a man wouldn't do for the perfect girl who loved him back with equal passion. He'd even put up with her human best friend if it made her happy. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for Alice.
Anything.

Esme wrung her hands in worry. "Where did he go, Carlisle? I thought this was what he wanted. Why would he leave?"
Carlisle wrapped one arm around his mate and stared out the window of his study, solemn as ever. He felt like he'd aged more in the last year than he had in the previous century.
Believe it or not, teenage romantic drama wasn't something with which the Cullen coven had much experience. "I'm not sure, Esme," Carlisle stroked her hair soothingly. "Don't tell any of the others, yet. Edward couldn't have gone far. I'll track him down and bring him back home. He needs us right now. He just doesn't see it."
"Okay, Carlisle..." Esme tried to calm herself, but it wasn't easy. The well-being of her children always brought her inner vampire to the surface. She wanted nothing more than to chase down her wayward son, destroying everything that stood between the two of them.
Yet, as usual, all Esme could do was wait.
