The Exiled Tribrid, C1: A New World

Alex was lost in thought, pondering about the twists and turns his fate had taken over the course of his life. His two lives, to be precise.

His first life was ordinary. He was born. He died. Somewhere in between the two he lived, but it wasn't much of a life. School. A job. Death. Just a normal human life.

His second life was... well, to most people it would've been either terrifying or exhilarating. To Alex, his second life was an endless vacation. Exhausted after working himself to death in his first life, he swore that he would enjoy all that the world had to offer in his second!

For only a second after his rebirth he was excited. How many people got to experience reincarnation? Then life slapped him in the face.

He was born in a primitive hut over a pile of animal furs. Alex had to admit, it was a nice and spacious hut, but it was still a damn hut. In the beginning, Alex's second life made him want to scream. He was born at the tail end of the tenth century as a member of the Mikaelson family.

He wasn't just any random addition to the family that he recognized from a TV series from his first life. No, he was born as the twin of Niklaus, the bastard. Well, in this timeline they were both bastards, together. Joy.

Despite Nik's ceaseless attempts to forge a bond with him, Alex remained stoic and aloof, not just with his twin, but with the whole family. The only sibling that he even marginally tolerated was Kol, and that was because they were the only ones who inherited their mother's magic.

Alex loved magic, but he didn't become attached to it as Kol did. He knew it was only temporary, and while he mourned its loss, he contented himself with looking forward to an unmatched immortal life in exchange.

After Henrik's death, he was included in the ritual that transformed them into the first vampires, but only by the virtue of their shared blood. He had very little to do with his so-called family.

Shortly before the first full moon after their change, he took off with a daylight ring and the stolen instructions for making more. He wanted nothing to do with any of his family's shit. They could take their crazy to one part of the world, and he'd hang out wherever they weren't.

For the next thousand years, he actually did manage to avoid them entirely. Not once did Mikael come knocking on his door to purge the world of an abomination. Not once did he even see Niklaus' shadow. It was a wonderful thousand-year vacation.

The only thing that could possibly bring him back was the opportunity to break his curse, which his mother had placed on him and his brother shortly after he left them. While Alex couldn't use magic, he had an incredible aptitude for sensing mystical energies.

For one thousand years, he had felt stifled. Supernatural creatures were very in-tune with their true natures, and a part of him was sealed. To Alex, this was unacceptable, and it grated on him that he couldn't free himself from his mother's spell. Nevertheless, he patiently waited.

He ignored the whole debacle with Katerina and decided to wait for the time Klaus would break free of the curse on his own. After the birth of the next doppelganger, Alex met with Klaus, a few weeks before he would break his curse forever.

They struck a deal. Alex would help him hunt down and destroy Mikael, which they did with ease, and Klaus would break the curse on both of them, which he likewise did smoothly.

Alex's problem came the moment his curse was broken. His twin was a man of his word, he'd give him that. Unfortunately for Alex, Klaus was also a power-hungry sociopath who refused to share power with anyone. Potentially sharing control over his hybrid army with his wayward brother? That wasn't happening.

That was how Alex found himself the victim of a second ritual, right after the first.

Niklaus' final words to him were, "Sorry, brother. I didn't want to kill my own twin, so I found an alternative. I'll be taking care of this world and you can have your own. I hope you enjoy your little exile to what my witches have dubbed an alternate reality. Probably. We're not sure if the spell will work, to be honest. Best of luck, brother. Farewell."

A few minutes later, Alex was pushed through a portal and found himself buried under twenty feet of snow. He was bereft of all clothing save his daylight ring, which he'd long ago had enchanted to always return to his hand. The ring also had some secondary functions that he'd picked up over the years that he just couldn't give up. It was practically a magical artifact at this point.

He didn't need it any longer for its original purpose, but it held sentimental value. It had been with him for one thousand years, after all. It was still sinking in that he was a fully functioning hybrid for the first time in his life and thus safe from the threat of the sun.

Fucking Nik. The paranoid bastard. He really should have seen that coming. Well, not that, specifically. How could you predict crazy?

Oh, well. At least he was still alive. Alive and a kick-ass predator at the top of the food-chain. No matter where he had crash landed, he'd be fine.

He spent a few minutes digging himself out and was soon greeted with a scenic mountain vista, lit by a setting sun. He took stock of himself and his surroundings, only now noticing that he felt something missing.

Even after Nik had freed them from the so-called curse of the sun and the moon, Alex could still feel the magic of one more curse that had almost always been with him.

It was something that not even Nik had known of, a second curse that prevented them from making more hybrids without the blood of the doppelganger, which they should have killed to complete the ritual. Nik would've been screwed if Elena's father hadn't bound his life to hers. Thanks to good ol' John Gilbert, Elena lived another day to be Nik's blood supply to make his new and improved puppies.

Alex, on the other hand, seemed to be free of the curse entirely. Hah, Nik's little ritual had been a boon for him, freeing him from the last scrap of his traitorous mother's magic. He almost wanted to thank Nik. Even further, he could instinctively tell that he could change anyone into a werewolf-vampire hybrid.

The resulting sire bonds would give him complete control over... everything. That was only if he could be bothered to go to all that trouble, of course. He had gotten used to his endless vacation and was loathe to give it up. At the end of the day, did he even really need more power?

Hmm... Power?

Now that Alex was truly free from the curses that plagued him all his immortal life, he sensed something he hadn't felt since he was a mortal.

Magic.

His magic.

Trickling back into his body through Nature itself was a rush of power that Alex thought forever lost to him after his transition into a vampire. He had magic again! He was a warlock! A vampire, werewolf, and warlock! Suck on that shit Klaus! A cursed Hybrid was worth far less than an unfettered and free Tribrid.

He reveled in his discovery, like a man discovering that he wasn't infertile, after being told otherwise. It wasn't dissimilar. It was a very freeing moment.

While Alex was distracted with his introspection, a sweet, feminine voice sounded from behind him, causing him to jump and whirl around. He came face to face with... a vampire?

"Hello there, stranger," purred the sultry blonde temptress standing a mere five feet away from him, her skin sparkling madly. "My name is Tanya Denali," she continued, "May I ask who you are and... what you are?" Her eyes trailed down his exposed body, taking a long look.

Alex was wide-eyed, a little stunned that he had apparently jumped from one world of vampires to another. His mind worked lightning fast, courtesy of being a one-thousand-year-old original hybrid.

In an instant, he thought of a great plan. Nik wanted him to take this world for his own? Fine. He'd do it, but in his own way. It would require some effort to work out the details, but the universe had gifted him a blonde bombshell on a silver platter. Could anybody blame him if he took a bite?

It looked like Tanya may have had similar thoughts about him, anyways. She wasn't exactly being discrete while checking out a certain male part of his anatomy...

"Alex Mikaelson, at your service," he drawled, "You wouldn't happen to have a place nearby where I could warm up, would you, my lady?" He knew that she was nearly as old as he was, so minding his manners was probably a good idea.

She smirked, sultrily, "My sisters and I have a cabin near here. I'm sure they would both love to have you, as would I." The look she gave him was hot enough to melt steel, her eyes darkening from gold to a near-black.

Alex's pupils dilated and burned a fiery gold, not dissimilar to her own, his instincts roaring in response.

"Perfect. I can't wait to meet them."
