The Foundation of Smoke and Steel Ebook vs Paperback

Curious about what you guys think…

So I was talking to my editor yesterday while wrapping up the first volume of The Foundation of Smoke and Steel, and we got on the topic of how different publishing feels compared to 10–15 years ago.

Back then, I was doing a lot more writing and focused heavily on online sales—and at the time, eBooks were everything. Digital was booming, and it felt like paperbacks were on the way out.

But lately? I’m not so sure.

We were also discussing the idea of him serializing his own novel, and that got us into how reader habits have shifted. Honestly, it just doesn’t feel like people buy eBooks the way they used to. At the same time, I’ve seen more and more readers ask for physical copies.

So now I’m wondering:
Do you still buy paperbacks?
Is there something special about holding the story in your hands, or has digital convenience won out?

I’d love to hear what format you prefer these days—and why. Let’s nerd out a little.
