Last prompt for the Haunted Forest and a feathery visitor

Kept my delay under a week! Yaaay!

Once upon a Haunted Forest, day *cough* 31: Peculiar spirits. Happy, uhm, Hallowe'en!

Still the wind rose up into the sky, and now Agnes saw that shapes came with it, rising from the mound and the caverns beneath it, shaking their heads, beating their wings, flicking their tails, twitching their ears, staring at their surroundings, then starting to dance and caper out from their long prison in expressions of pure joy.

And Spirits roam free from earthy walls, whispered Agnes as she held the crest close. The Light was gone – no, she was everywhere, in the very essence of life all around them, in every caper and leap of joy. Agnes could not tear her eyes from the exuberant dance that continued to stream from the Gate, watching as the forest was filled with life and light as in the first spring the earth had known. Young leaves sprouted from barren trees, the air overflowed with the sweet scent of flowers, the rush of running water, and the song of nightingales. The Fae danced upon the mound. In their midst, his antlers sparkling with dewy cobwebs like jewels, stood the Guardian. He slowly inclined his proud head towards Agnes and Peef.

“It seems I’ve got you back,” she said softly to the bird. “Let’s go home, shall we?”

I'd been agonising over this one for days (or it wouldn't have been quite this late). Then the colouring happened yesterday, and I was so happy that my first thought was, Oooh, nice! Quick and beautiful! I should make a book in this style! ... dang. I just made one, but not quite in that style. XD

So in other words, Inktober has been a whole success to land me with a colouring style in Procreate I love, but the book will be just as hodgepodge as I feared. But I think I'll add a little foreword so people who just pick it up as a storybook won't be put off. Or maybe it's an artist thing again and it doesn't look as bad from a buyer's perspective.

I had a little magical moment this morning being awoken by birdsong. On a cold grey November morning, after they'd been pretty silent lately. One was, expectedly, a robin - thex often sing far into November here. One was a goldfinch. And one, piping high up in our firtree, was a kinglet. I've been visited by Peef!

(Speaking of which, what would sound more natural to you in the book for the bird? Kinglet or crest?)

My Etsy shop opening has gone well, and seems to be levelling off at an amount of orders I can manage, which is all around good! I'm also happy to see that Inprnt seems to have got a little boost last week, too. I can't do more lasting coupon codes there (they all expire after a month), but I've made a 10% code in case anyone is looking for some holiday shopping. ;) It's VFJJBAGD, valid until 11 November!

That makes a lot of thanks, thank you! I think kinglet may be more international.

The art pieces you made for the book are beautfiful, and it won't be a hodegepodge! IEven the the buyers who notice a slight change of style will think that you used different styles on purpose. We love to be surprised by your art ;)

This will be a wonderful book -- and while you may see obvious differences in style throughout, most viewers won't! As for "crest" (what is that short for, again??) I had never heard of one. A couple of times, when I read "crest" in your story, I took it to mean something other than the wee bird, at first: like the crest of a ridge, or the crest on a cardinal or bluejay, or an heraldic crest ...? Something, perhaps, to consider for North Am sales ... ^_^
