A little sketch I forgot to post, and the eternal search for the perfect watercolour-to-go set...

I did this sketch at school last Friday. It was the first sketch with my (tentatively) ultimate do-it-yourself watercolour kit.

Watercolour to go is something that I love to do, but will only do if everything fits. You'll remember that I have the beautiful little Mini Pal-ette from Stephanie Law. I love that one, but it requires a table. There's just so much you have to put somewhere, and I really longed for something that held all my colours and my palette and a bit of tissue in the palm of one hand. I wanted to be able to just close everything and pack up within a minute. My life somehow requires a sudden departure quite frequently.

So I came up with this. The idea was taken from Katie Warman, whose watercolours (KWARTScreations) I tested last winter. She had these neat little tin boxes, with the watercolour pans held in place with little magnets. The little boxes only hold up to fourteen half-pans, but after Stephanie's 37-well-miracle, I wanted moooore! Fortunately, I have these slightly larger boxes you can buy at some chemists' shops in Germany. They comfartably hold 24 colours, and I bought a sponge, cut it to size, and added it into the palette - now I can clean my water brush without the need of a separate tissue!

The mixing chart is attached to the inside of the lid with magnets, too, and can be stuck onto the outside when the palette is in use.

And since 24 colours is still not enough and I really need 30, I added a smaller tin, which I lovingly call my substitute's bench. They're just the right size for my stickers.

Ooh, this reminds me of Regina's watercolours that I had recommended to me quite recently. They're magnetically attached with a palette above, though maybe not as easy to hold one-handed...

....why have I not thought about magnetic tape before? And I have the perfect tin/box, and the double-sided tape is getting to be rather old. What a splendid tip, I know just what I will do to celebrate the arrival of the weekend!

This sketch is so nostalgic. It reminds me of a scene from the last unicorn for some reason. That is a really neat idea. I've been trying to look for travel watercolour kits, but this seems much easier and manageable. Thanks for sharing!

Bwahaha! I wrote "comfartably". No, I'm not editing that.

Sweet. The watercolor painter's sketchbook, or something like that.
