Super facepalm moment while working on the rigging of the ship:
Trying to find out how medieval rigging would have worked close up, and anywhere, really anywhere I search, after two sentences someone will say "go to the Schifffahrtsmuseum Bremerhaven and look at the medieval cog there."
The town I grew up in, which I literally visited three days ago. >_<
I'm ashamed to say that the last time I went to the Schifffahrtsmuseum was... in the eighties, when I was no older than ten. I remember the cog scaring the hell out of me. She was in a large room, kept in a huge tank of greenish, barely see-through water, which was supposed to kill germs and rot in preparation for full restoration, a process which was to take about twenty years. I remember my dad telling me, "You'll be twenty when she's finished!" I thought that was incredibly frightening. Both for something to sit in greenish water for so long, and for me to grow up.
My daughter, on the other hand, was beside herself with delight with this piece. "This is what I'll look like when I grow up? Wow, can't wait!" <3
