Then Fingon rode against him

"Again after a hundred years Glaurung, the first of the Urulóki, the fire-drakes of the North, issued from Angband's gates by night. He was yet young and scarce half-grown, for long and slow is the life of the dragons, but the Elves fled before him to Ered Wethrin and Dorthonion in dismay; and he defiled the fields of Ard-galen. Then Fingon prince of Hithlum rode against him with archers on horseback, and hemmed him round with a ring of swift riders; and Glaurung could not endure their darts, being not yet come to his full armoury, and he fled back to Angband, and came not forth again for many years. Fingon won great praise, and the Noldor rejoiced; for few foresaw the full meaning and threat of this new thing."

As you can see, I went for Fingon in the title - he's so much more prominent than Glaurung!

I can't express how much I love this combination of dull greenish-blue with ochre. It ticks off all my personal taste boxes.

Original is sold! <3 Here's a reminder that you can ask me about an original painting at any point while it's on the easel.

I was glad yesterday to have this little beauty on my workbench to take my mind off the pin disaster. At times, it almost felt as though someone had died. Over the last month, I'd continuously think about pins, which ones to make, how to bundle them, how to run a preorder, and yesterday, whenever my mind went along those tangents, I'd stop short.

I won't say I'm not a quitter. I've quit a lot of things in my life (and regretted few). But in this case, I told myself pretty quickly that I wasn't going to quit pins. There's all the packaging stuff and backing cards, not just for the 170 Patreon-only ones, but also for the ones I'm still hoping to do, and I love those little things so much that I'm going to make them happen.

The kingfisher and open edition Maedhros pins I already ordered are set to arrive in about two weeks. I'm going to have the others made next month, too. I'm currently looking at Pantone books in Ebay; this is the most failsafe way to communicate the exact colour you want to the manufacturer, and I want to communicate exact colours, by jolly! (You see I'm still listening to Bill Bryson.) So yes, pins are happening, and preorders will happen as soon as I have confirmation that it is possible to do pins that don't look like zombie smurfs. I'm fairly confident in that regard. ;)

Oh, you're here as well?! <3 Now, only Elena Kukanova has to join Patreon as well and then all my favourite Tolkien artists will be here. :D

I like the idea that they use thumb draw method as Asian horseback warriors! And the one on the left is such a cutie :) Love him even more than Fingon!

Marya Filatova

I was wondery about that when I got the email notification ;D

Wonderful! (for some reason, the predictive keyboard in my tablet kept writing “wondery”. That’s not a word in Spanish). Loved the finished piece!

Laura Michel

Good title! And the artwork turned out magnificent. There's such a cinematic scope to it with the movement of the Elven archers and the ravaged landscape. Just spectacular.

Lyra

Only good news then!! This is a magnificent piece, I just love your Glaurung. That's what I call a perfect worm!

Litsen

Beautiful, Jenny.

Steven Tryon

Soooo good as always!

Paul Leone

They're a great gateway, aren't they? You can imagine how often one of my children (usually Jana) wanders in by accident and stays for two hours to get a Silmarillion refresher!

So beautiful! :D I’ve started showing your work to my students (5-10 years old) when they ask for a story and I tell them something out of the Tolkien Legendarium.

It's not quite A3 and just one of the characters is really detailed, so this wasn't that much above 700. Glaurung, wearing no clothes, is much easier to do than someone with straps and emboidery and cloaks and stuff. XD Yes, I always upload the painting on Etsy first so I can add it to the discount! Few people seem to notice, and most of those are my Patrons anyway. <3

Jenny Dolfen

Love the painting ... and the title! :D I was already wondering where your Patreon post was as I had already discovered the print on etsy. :) ... How much money would one roughly have to save to be able to buy such an A3 painting with so many characters and such detailed background? (I know you gave us the overview of your commissions, but there were only 700,- + for 2 characters mentioned.)
