For Maglor slew Uldor the Accursed

Watercolour on Bockingford cold-pressed paper, 36x26 cm.

Now, I'm glad I redid this! This was exactly what I wanted. Is it possible that there's a Napoleon painting with a very similar colour scheme? Every time I look at the thumbnail of this, I think, "Napoleon!" I'm sure Maglor is glad about this sort of attention.

For comparison, this was the ill-fated attempt on Aquabord, left unfinished toward the bottom as I realised I was muddying things more and more. It wasn't even that much smaller in size.

Prints available in my shop! Click the link to have your 20% discount applied automatically. I can say that the 20% thing was a great idea for all concerned. Some of you joked last month that you felt bad about ruining me, but it looks as if the discount doesn't harm me in the least - quite the contrary! Still figuring out capitalism, haha.

Level-headed would be a good way to describe him in most situations, I'd say. Probably the most level-headed of the whole lot, by a margin.

That's the one I had in mind, yes!

The colours look wonderful and the background is very effective - you can literally feel the battle dust in the air. I like how calm and focused Maglor looks. He's every bit as deadly as his brothers, just more cold blooded...

There's a version of 'Napoleon Crossing the Alps' with old Boney wearing yellow and blue, mounted on a rearing horse and pointing with his right hand. He's facing the other way, mind, and looking out of the painting rather than down.

Maglor looks amazing! I love the detail on his armour, incredible as always. Glad to see a painting of the warrior side of him, I feel it's often overlooked but you did it perfectly.

I noticed that too, yes! In the Bakshi movie itself, as well. What I went for is "generic Barbarian trying to pass for historical", aka Hollywood. XD I would have lovedlovedloved to go wild with Mongol or Slavic designs, but felt this was just wrong. I don't think Tolkien was being deliberately racist, but (there's the but) in the 21st century, that wouldn't have worked.

That are no words for how much I love this! Maglor the Warrior getting his due! This is right up there with my very favourites of yours, Jenny <3 I'm amazed at the difference in the two versions when viewed side by side. I did still love the Aquabord one, but the new version is just mindblowingly gorgeous and I can't stop staring.

Great dynamic painting! The funny thing is that your Easterlings remind me very much of the way Boromir was depicted in Luis Bermejo's comics to the Ralph Bakshi movie in the late 70s. (<a href="https://tinyurl.com/y43h2n8o)." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://tinyurl.com/y43h2n8o).</a> Quite the oposite side of the heroic spectrum ;-) Also: It my not be exactly the same colour sceem, but the only Napoleon painting coming to my mind is him crossing the Alps (<a href="https://tinyurl.com/y2mru22s)." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://tinyurl.com/y2mru22s).</a> Maybe it's the horse.

It came out beautifully!
