The Patreon changes mentioned above are not my doing this time. I don't know if Patreon has notified you already, but creators have been told that Patreon is remodelling their fees system - until now, for every $ you pledge, we creators pay a certain amount to Patreon as fees. Which is totally fine and has been for creators and supporters alike for years.
Now Patreon plans adding the fees to your pledge. Meaning it adds 2.9% + $0.35 to every pledge, which I think is really unfortunate especially for the small pledges of 1$, which suddenly become about half again as much every month!
There's a petition going on at change.org to make Patreon reconsider this. I get that it's meant to help creators, because we'd actually get 100% of what you are pledging, but we're the ones getting the benefits, so why shouldn't we be the ones paying the fees? Overall, if this change is implemented, we might get more out of Patreon - until the 1$ people start dropping out. I don't like the idea that the ones who pledge a small amount suddenly are being pushed out.

Yeah the new fee thing is really weird especially for the $1 tier, because of the reasons you said, but also because if you're pledging that amount you may very well need to keep track of things quite closely, and the extra fees make that a lot harder. If you're pledging $1 it really ought to genuinely be a dollar that you pay. I do feel weird saying that, as obviously as a creator I'm also benefiting from the new scheme, but it doesn't quite sit right with me either.
