When I was young and horsey, I actually decided what sort of horse every Feanorean rode. Maedhros always had a dapple grey or blue roan, because that's just the coolest horse colour in the world. I even gave him a name - Luinor. (I never wondered whether he went through Luinors I-CLXVII over the course of the First Age...)

Sadly the dapples fade 😔; they end up white. Our lass still has her dapples, but the white patches are growing.

2017-11-09 04:28:54 +0000 UTCI love the idea that the elves have a 'line' of horses that they ride... like the lords and ladies would have someone employed simply to look after the lines of their favourite horses and ensure only the best of the foals were trained to carry their masters... (sorry I never actually got over that horse stage as a kid)

2017-11-09 02:44:26 +0000 UTCI agree that Nelyo was riding a grey horse all the time. Though I guess the horses they brought from Valinor were immortal at one stage, as well as hounds. Then they started breeding with local, Endoran horses and dogs abd their decendants became mortal. Luinor is a nice name, though I have read a other name as well somewhere wich also suits - Hiswe ( The Mist). Luinor sound too sindarin he-he XD.
