Prompt: Ecthelion for Springsss

Here's your prompt, finally - Ecthelion of the Fountain! Water-soluble graphite and white pencil on Clairefontaine mid-tone paper.

I got this paper yesterday and already love it! It's specifically made for mixed media, has a nice grain, and really takes water well without bending. The water-soluble pencils are perfect on it - they're really fine, so I can grope towards the right line without making a mess.

I'm determined to take the drive that I've built up over Inktober into the next few months, and I've done a lot of things to make sure it doesn't just run into a dead end. I've subscribed to Focus@Will, a website that plays music tailored to your focusing needs. I've bought headphones to blend out distractions. I've motivational quotes above my workspace, the most important one being: "Your shittiest sketchbook page is still better than the days you decided to not make anything". I came across that one on Facebook the other day and oh boy, it's so true. Inktober has really helped me see that, too.

The coolest thing I just did today: I reorganised my desk! My workspace is usually a mess. I have my computer there, I do my marking there, and often, there's not even space for art. I used to have all my markers, pencils, brushes, erasers, and STUFF in old mugs. Apart from the fact that I really need those mugs after my discovery of tea, they took up a lot of room on my desk and I still couldn't find things. So I got this today:

... and it's the BEST THING EVAARR. For Ecthelion, I used three different pencils, two different erasers, and a brush, and it was just no effort, even for a slob like me, to just put them back.

I think I'm ready for art again. ^____^

No, they work the same! But with the graphite sheen to them, so they look and handle exactly like pencils, and they're erasable. They come in different strengths too. :)

Jenny Dolfen

Oh, and what are water-soluble graphite pencils? Are those like water-color pencils or something completely different?

Sommer Sorenson

This is beautiful! And I'm so glad that you are beginning to feel encouraged again.

Sommer Sorenson

It's a hand broom, to clear away eraser dust. XD

Your recent posts sound so much happier and more positive. I am so glad you feel better. ... And I'm curious - As a non-artist myself I have absolutely no idea what you could be using this huge brush in the top row for. What on earth is this for? ^^

Anjuschka

I love this organiser and am so glad you're feeling ready for art again! I've loved your inktobers and especially reading the story behind each one and why these characters got to you!

Erin-Claire

Ecthelion is lovely! Also, you sound so energized and motivated - go you! :)

Lisa Gerard

Yay! So happy to hear this!

Gwendolyn

Yay that's my boy! Thank you so much again!

Springsss

Ooh. Organization. Ooh.

Steven Tryon
