Stonehenge! I've been there before - twice, actually, even back in the day when you were allowed to walk right up to the stones - but it's always a staggering sight. The most staggering is when you drive past Salisbury plain, over the top of a hill, and look down on those breathtaking stones towering down in the valley, quite far away and yet so HUGE that they just leave you flabbergasted. Too flabbergasted to break out the camera, unfortunately. So this is from the walkway round the stones.

Tintagel and Boscastle in Cornwall - my single most favourite place in the world. Standing there on those craggy cliffs, waves crashing below, gulls circling all around, with the weather-beaten remains of the 13th century castle - I fell in love with the place almost 25 years ago, and whenever I come back, I'm smitten with the place again.

My son (in the foreground) and hubby and daughter already quite far away, on the flooded crossway to St Michael's mount. During low tide, you can walk over without even getting your feet wet. Low tide was quite early in the morning, so we'd tried to arrive at the last possible time to cross on foot (if you miss it, you can to take a boat to the island). My husband wanted to go on foot. even when the Sat Nav led us totally astray and we arrived half an hour late. The tide was coming in and we got wet feet to the waist. The daughter ended up being carried, and the son ended up being grumpy. Until we found knights toys in the gift shop on the Mount, and he was happy again instantly.

Tintagel is indeed magical. It's no surprise the Arthur legend is focused so much on that place. It feels like anything can happen there.
