Last night, I felt this was going in far too garish a direction, and started anew.
As if I hadn't been experimenting enough this year, this is yet another medium: Arylic gouache. It comes in tubes, is water-soluble (like watercolour), and dries to a matte finish (like gouache, unlike acrylic) but dries waterproof (like acrylic, unlike gouache) so it doesn't need fixating (unlike gouache) and can be painted on in layers (like watercolours, unlike gouache). In German, we call such a thing an egg-laying wool-milk sow. XD
The downsides are that it dries on the palette too; so everything you haven't used up by evening has to be washed off as it can't be rewetted (unlike watercolour and gouache). The other downside is that there are only a few brands worldwide that even make the stuff, and it's completely unavailable in Germany. The set I have came via amazon from Japan. O_o
The upside is that I've found them in a UK online shop (Jackson's Art Supplies) which charges totally fine shipping rates to Germany, as I found out ordering stuff from them yesterday.
The downside of that is that is that I'm now poor. XD Goodness gracious, what a range of products.
