Of herbs and roast rabbit

Okay, I hope this post can convey the absolute cataclysmity that is gouache. It's a where have you been all my life type of experience. It's literally the look that I've been trying to achieve with watercolour for years, and all the while, I had tubes of high-quality gouache lying in my art cupboard (aka Creative Black Hole) and never used them because I thought they worked like acrylic. They can. But they can also have the levity of watercolour, except you can always go back to lighter, and you can even go back to fuzziness when you have overrendered. This was so much FUN. And fairly quick. You won't have seen the last of gouache.

I also can't believe that I chose to do fire for a first attempt with a new medium and pretty much got away with it. :3

Great. Now I want gouache too, which given my irregular attempts at painting, I really shouldn't be wanting :)

Yes, that's what gouache was just made for - smoke, and clouds! Paint it over something you've already done, and let some of it shine through. I'll be having so much fun with this!

What really floors me more than the fire, is the PERFECT coloration of the smoke to the left, and how we see the color of objects through smoke.

With all the troubles Sam goes through, I love how content he is here.

I can't wait to see what else I'll do over the holidays! I'm all giddy! =D

*looks at the piece and nods* Yes, that was definitely the medium you were meant to work in. :)

I'm sure Sam roasted a rabbit at some point in his life.

Jenny Dolfen

Love it. Even though it's supposed to be stewed rabbit...
