Painting this ork will be part of a couple of videos on techniques – so, here we are obviously focusing on texture and all the ways we can achieve texture and what it's strenghts and weaknesses are. And speaking of weaknesses another thing I hope this video series is going to illustrate is the point I am always making that you should not get caught up too much in thinking in techniques. The giant pitfall in both learning and teaching about painting is, that painting needs to be broken down into techniqes and brushstrokes and other factors that make up this technique. Because mastering one incremental step after another is how we all learn. However at a certain point in your painting journey you will realise that – what you want to paint can only be achieved through a combination of brushstrokes that all of a sudden are not one or the other technique, but become an amalgam of both. You kind of have to stop thinking in techniques at that point and just think of what your goal is and how you can achieve that and not think about...what single techniqe is the go to here, because usually it is a combination or even something completely new, that cannot be labeled.
