[INFO] Nordic and Baltic - 12/24

The BuildTheEarth Team Nordic and Baltic has the goal to recreate Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in Minecraft at a 1:1 scale in this project. The team has a size of over 3122 users, and they've already reconstructed more than 1000 buildings. With each passing day, the team continues to make remarkable progress towards their goal.

🌎 Helsinki Cathedral

Part of the 19th-century Helsinki Empire Centre, the Cathedral's construction began in 1830 with funding from Tsar Nicholas I. Despite alterations overseen by E. B. Lohrmann, it was consecrated in 1852. The Cathedral survived the Helsinki Church Riots of 1917 and, upon Finland's independence, became the Grand Church, later adopting the title Helsinki Cathedral in 1959 with the creation of the Helsinki Diocese.

🏠 Pazaislis Monastery Kaunas

The monastery is situated near the Kaunas Reservoir, offering a serene environment for visitors. Its main building, the Church of the Visitation, is an outstanding example of Baroque architecture with its grand dome, ornate facades, and intricately decorated interiors. Inside, visitors can admire frescoes and stucco works created by Italian and local artists, which depict biblical scenes and saints. The complex also houses a museum that preserves its rich history and art.

🏠 Design Museum Helsinki

Situated on Kasarmikatu in Helsinki, the museum shares a plot with the Design Museum. The building, designed by Magnus Schjerfbeck in the Neo-Renaissance style, was completed in 1899 as a house for scientific societies. The Museum of Architecture moved to this building in 1981 from a villa in Kaivopuisto (Puistokatu 4), which remained in the museum's possession until 2020. Originally built for scientific societies, the building has also been used by the University of Helsinki for its gymnasium.
